I'll use the upcoming fight between Kostya Tszyu and Ricky Hatton as an example.

Is there anything that anyone actually disslikes about either of these two fighters?... Coz' I think you'll be hard pushed to find someone that will say a bad word about either of them.

They're both honest and great to their fans, they're respectfull to their opponents, and openly admire other fighter's career acheivements. They're both an excellent role model to younger people joining the sport.

Then you get the trash talkers... Like James Toney - enough said! Tarver was pretty bad for a while, and Floyd Mayweather isn't winning himself any fans nowadays. They're rude and say very offending stuff to opponents.

They have no respect for their fellow fighters achomplishments, and call other fighters (World Champions - "BUMS").

Now I know that this is a business, and some people will play the bad guy if it's gonna sell them more tickets but I have to ask:

Which approach is better? I ask Because the Tszyu's/Hattons/Gatti's sell out 20,000+ everytime they fight, where as some of the trash talkers, (Like Floyd Mayweather) was only able to sell 2,000-3,000 seats in his last outing?

Mind you, Mike Tyson has done very well in the past by playing the bad guy. :dunno:

So which approach is better? Trash talking or respectable boxer?

trash talking is good for boxing though,it sparks interest in fights, makes the press conferences tv-worthy,plus makes the trash talker better off(king knows toney pulls crowds with his **** talking)

You have to understand something Martin.

Toney has a big mouth. He is a microcosm of U.S.A. citizens because of his brash nature. He is not afraid to speak his mind....despite pissing people off. He is a hero to many people for what he said about ESPN, as well as his antics toward John Ruiz. Most of the fighters that "seem respectable" are only doing so to look accordingly to the public.

Muhammad Ali was the biggest trash talker of all time...he went beyond conventional boundaries and spoke out against the vietnam war...which was extremely controversial at the time. Either way you look at it

its a cultural difference. There are people here who love Mike Tyson despite what he has said; and how he as acted towards the general media. If you lived here in the States, you would know exactly what I mean.

I personally though....Like Kostya's respectful displays over ones that are brash. And that is just my opinion.

I wasn't having a dig at Americans by picking three Americans that were trash talkers... I just looked down the P4P list top 20 and those are the names I came up with.

I don't want this thread to be another "America this, and America that thread"... There are fighters all over the World that trash talk... Some from the UK.

The questions is more:

no no. I realize that. The thing is...I was merely pointing out there could be cultural issues when assessing fighter's attitudes toward the general media.

Thats all. I was not trying to make this another geological strife.

I think the respectful approach is more beneficial to a boxer's fame and longevity in his/her career.

I like the respectable boxer more than the trash talker.I do like some trash talkers, like Mayorga.I mostly hate the arrogant(Mayweather etc.) and thuggish trash talkers(Toney).I know the trash talkers are the ones that appeal to fans more though.

I hate Jame Toney, because he never stops talking trash. After he won the title,he kept trashing and disrespecting Ruiz. That might have been the telling sign that he was juiced up,because he couldn't calm down enough to Thank Ruiz for giving him the title shot.

I dont view Mike Tyson or James Toney of the kind of the kind of trash that Floyd Mayweather and others are. Tyson shows alot of class sometimes I think his whole "baddest man on the earth" thing is gimmick even though he did bite Evander's ear off. He just looses his mind and does stupid **** sometimes Tyson. Mayweather Judah Jones etc.. are just *******s to their opponents fans and everybody else and they are genuine in this. Jones maybe not as much as Judah and Mayweather.

You are totally correct though that Mayweather cant sell tickets worth **** and Gatti and other class acts like Hatton Tzyu sell tickets no problemo.

.

Funny. You cant stand mayweather and Toney...but you like Mayorga who is the most tasteless trashtalker of them all.

He knocked Vernon Forrest out....then called him a pendejo on national television. Forrest was nothing but respectful....and then that arrogant ***** rubbed salt in his wounds.

I sense some hypocrisy there.

I felt really good watching Tito knock that ****** out.

it'll be hard for hatton or gatti to trash talk after the broken jaws they'll receive from tszyu and mayweather

Its betta to jest shut the **** up and show them peeps how you fight in the ring.

Its entertainin sumtimes, but if ya overdo it, it's jest lame and stoopid. Like Maywetha does and Toney from time to time.

Side note: At least when Mayorga talk shyt, he is funny.

Despite my favorite fighter being Chico who is certainly on the respectful side, I would say overall I prefer the trash talkers. I mean, bring on the villians baby! I like it when guys open their mouths and then back it up in the ring, nothing can be more demoralizing to an opponent then to be defeated both inside and outside of the ring.

and nuthin sucks mo than talkin lots o shyt then gettin beat in an embarrassin way. Look at Tito Trinidad, though thats the mild version. LOL!

I like classy, humble sincere fighters that are genuine.. Guys like Johnny Ruiz and Kosta Tsyzu I feel are really that way.. I think someone like DLH acts that up alot and is somewhat insincere!@

I don't agree though... I've followed Ricky Hatton from near the beginning of his career. All his last 20-25 fights have been aired LIVE on UK TV, and a lot of the fans over here have really taken to him!

I think that is because he's such a nice guy, and when he talks he's very respectfull, and everyone in the UK (Boxing fans) is behind him, we all want him to win because we all feel like we sort of know him. That's because he's been on TV a lot.

So when he goes in the ring next weekend against Kostya Tszyu, us fans are really REALLY wanting him to win.

There's an element of emotion envolved because you've followed his whole career and the last 5yrs of watching him progress has come to the big finale, to see if he will actually cut it at the top.

D'you know what I'm talking about?

Where as I see the trash talkers more as one nighters... They never get a heavy fan base and people REALLY willing them on to win because they say horrible things about other fighters and at the end of the day... They're arseholes really. :dunno:

I personally prefer respectfull fighters however i understand that in many cases trash talking is just done to sell tickets or get people to buy the PPV, however i agree its great it when a trash talker gets KTFO in the ring.

What does Tito feel afta gettin beat by Wright like that?

What does Toney feel afta talkin shyt befo and afta he fought Ruiz and findin out that he cheated?!

I jest think its betta to keep coo and jest fight o whateva! Pacman dint sell HIS FIRST PPV fo 350,000 buys by talkin shyt! Ya thas wazzup *****es!
