View Full Version : Jarryd Hayne - Best Player in the World???
The Beatles 03-25-2010, 04:25 AM This guy is the best player i've seen since Andrew Johns......i've been watching him play since the middle of last season when he turned into a freak.....last week vs Manly he was incredible again.....imo he's the best player in the world....Thurston is up there too.....
he didnt do much the first half last week, its easy to look good when your sides getting a heap of penalties and has all the possession and also when the referees dont call obvious forward passes.
hes a very good player, a definite matchwinner on his day but not in the class of the johns, lockyers or even thurstons just yet.but he is still fairly young as well

i seem to notice a similar thing with his game.......he has short patches where he dominates play, then he just gets shut out of the play for 15-20 minutes.......he's still young and has heeps of room to improve.....and he's nowhere near the level of John's but atm, i reckon he's the best in the world.....certainly the best fullback if anything
brently1979 03-25-2010, 05:54 AM Lets see how he goes for the duration of the season.

Maybe not, but he certainly did something in the second half didn't he?
I think he is the best out there at the moment. I also don't think I have ever seen a player with such a wide aray of incredible skills, and that includes Lockyer, Johns and whoever else you want to throw in there.
Exceptional player, exceptional ability.

He's very close to it. He is still a little inconsistent but i'd take that inconsistency with the blinding talent he has. He showed it last week but i think it's funny that he wears the bright yellow boots. I'm sure the defensive line would find him easier to pick up? Maybe the $ on the endorsement make it all better? I'm a kiwi so i think the best player in the world is Manu Vatuvei, The Beast. Come on, i know halves and playmakers are considered the best all round players but for dominance in his position Manu kills everyone.

hahhhaa.....yeah Manu is a beast...and you're right about halves and fullbacks getting more credit....its like P4P lists that underrate heavyweights

I might agree on the fullback issue but not in relation to halves. Great halves get a massive amount of credit because it is extremely difficult to be great in that position and it means a lot to a team to have a great half.
As good as Manu is all he really does is catch a ball (most of the time) and run over them.
Maybe not, but he certainly did something in the second half didn't he?
yes he did, but like i said its easy to look good when your sides getting a heap of penalties and all the possession

hes a very good player, especially for how young he is and i hate parramatta but i even look forward to their games sometimes because off him, but i think he has alot of mistakes and bad games in him. which is something that doesnt make a great player

Fair enough, I gotta say I disagree though.
I think Parra would have finished very close to last without him last year. I have never seen a player have a greater influence on a team, and that includes Johns and the Knights or Thurston and the Cowboys. Its ridiculous.
woftam 03-29-2010, 01:13 AM Best player in the world?
He's not even the best full back in the country.
Billy Slater has him covered all day every day.

I agree 100%. Slater is such a stable player.
Hayne can be brillant one game and a mess the next week.

Gets pretty tiresome explaining this **** to people.
Hayne is more than a fullback. He gives you a lot more than that. He can basically play as your fullback, strike outside back, key half and number one kicker all at once, all while topping your hit-up count.
And FYI, if you think Slater has been better at full back than Hayne over the past 12 months you are just out and out nuts.

LOL.
Where was this mess when he carried a very ordinary side to a grand final last season?

That's my point, he can do something like that, but for half a season before that he was totally off his game.
Dan... 03-29-2010, 02:43 AM That's my point, he can do something like that, but for half a season before that he was totally off his game.
I don't know if totally off his game is right. I remember watching him early last season and thinking that he was pretty much all Parra had. Then he was clearly NSW's best player in the origin series. He just had a crazy year all-round IMO, and its not like he had been ****house before that.
Also, some more food for thought. How does Billy go playing for Parra? You know, sub out the best hooker in the game, one of the best halves (particularly in terms of his kicking game), a very well-drilled forward pack full of representatives and a backline that includes Greg Inglis with a side that would most likley have come second last if it wasn't for Hayne.
Honestly I find the idea that Billy Slater is a better footballer than Hayne just laughable.

Slater will always be (to me) the guy who gave us the World Cup so i love Billy! lol

He was busy preparing to have a shocker in the Grand Final.
Which is exactly Brently's point

I don't get it.
A guy plays the absolute house down for 2/3 of a season, being the best player on the field in the vast majority of games and taking a very ordinary side to a GF, when they shouldn't have been anywhere near the top 8, then he doesn't play great in the GF so that is it?
How about how Billy handed the Kiwis the world cup? Or how Slater has had several extremely ordinary games in origin. So much so that they had to bring in Hunt to babysit him?
Slater isn't even in the same conversation as Hayne. It isn't close.
Dan... 03-29-2010, 09:47 PM That is exactly my point about him.
Sorry mate, in my opinion you don't have a point.

I find that last statement laughable, :P and I'm pretty sure Billy will still be in the # 1 for Australia for a long time to come.

woftam 03-29-2010, 10:19 PM Dan - People can have different opinions, it's what makes a forum. I happen to strongly disagree with your view on Hayne as opposed to Slater. I am not saying Hayne is crap, far from it. Your comment about Billy not even being comparable to Hayne is so over the top though it isn't funny.

As you say mate, we all have different opinions. Mine is that Billy isn't even in the same conversation as Hayne.
I absolutely shudder to think what Hayne would do to sides with Cameron Smith and Cooper Cronk playing inside him as opposed to Keating and Robson.
Also, I am not saying Slater is crap either. I'd pick him at #1 for Queensland. Just because I don't think he is anywhere near the guy I rank as the best in the game at the moment doesn't mean I automatically think he is ****.
Macho Madness 04-04-2010, 04:17 AM this year will show wat he really has, u should never judge a player on how good he played one year, but how he copes with the pressure put on him by his teammates and his opposition the next year,
plenty of other plays have crumbled in his position, i garuntee there have been plenty of players with as much skill that have crumbled under the pressure
