This will be my second amatuer fight at school and I have been training since about the beginning of February. I however feel that I'm still not prepared.
I will be fighting 3 Rounds 1 minute each with 16oz. What can I do to prepare for 3 mintues without gassing? I gassed last year but trained even less and underestimated my opponent.

Interval training?

Basically you want your body to be able to use everything it has 3 times in one minute bursts, I suggest you do your exercises and drills like that.

Neither of those people are named Pacquio or Mayweather, you are aware of this, right?

Thanks, thats exactly what I was thinking about doing. There is an empty track right on my block, I'm starting tomorrow.

3x1 min rounds?

That's a very short, intense fight. Get running some 400's (one lap of a running track/football field)

warm up with some (5-10 mins) jogging etc
then do 4x400m sprints. Have a 45 second rest between each sprint (or however long a rest you are going to get in the actual fight) The intensity on these should be all out. You should feel like collapsing after these.

Do that 2-3 times a week I'd say, plus other training.

Oh and you don't really need long distance to prepare for a 3x1 min round fight, won't serve any purpose at all unless you need to make weight.

Also do some punch outs on the bag, eg: 15 seconds all out punching, 10 seconds tapping th bag with your jab moving around. Repeat 3 times. That's one set. Do two more sets, and have 40 secs between each one.

So yeah, you are training for an extremely short fight, so short intense training is what you need.

yeah we have a boxing club. it isn't supported by the school though. a spanish teacher runs it because he was an amatuer and now a 2-0 pro.

hmm bout to say must not b official usa amateur but yet still a fight i'm sure..yall wear the headgear etc? anyhow tho i've seen some good advice..honestly since its ur 2nd fight dont care how in shape u are..nerves and excitement will drive most of ur conditioning down the drain...not to say dont condition you still wanna b prepared by all means..but from experience...u'll gas i this one as well...hopefully not as bad..relaxation truly is the key wich that comes w more fights..no worries tho..he is gassing out just as bad i promise...less they stick u with a guy who has had many more fights wich isnt nice

why would you train a round that is 3 times the length of the round you will be fighting?

so that when u have the one minute rounds it seems simple and no probs..its best to do 2 or 3 minutes than jus 1minute by all means point blank...its kinda how the pro's lotta times spar with 5minute rounds when really getten ready..its like 400m runners training by runnen 500's and 600's its like studying jus 20 answers on an exam that contains 20 ?'s but over 50 topics...u get the point yet?

But you can't train a 3 minute round at the same intensity as you can a one minute round. The one minute round, especially with guys who have little experience, will be fought at a very high intensity. A 3 minute round starts to work your aerobic system as well as your anaerobic system, whereas a 1 min round is highly anaerobic.

It's like training for a 400m race by running 1200m, makes no sense because the shorter event is more intense, and you need to mimic the intensity as well as the length.

your point is well and clear but we are talken 3 minutes not 5 either, wich would b more like ur comparison to the 400 and training 1200 notice i said those guys train 600's or 500's, we dont train jus 400 hard cause its hard to mimic actual intensity as practice is not an adrenaline rush like the real deal..i honestly would suggest the 2min...go hard as u can till failure and beyond..each round..also while if their is a 1min break u should jus take 30seconds...

No, you need to learn what you are doing.
