Attack of the Lightwieghts -- Part One
Attack of the Lightweights. Part one of a four part series on a division that is heating up around the world and in every orginization.
Without question, the most exciting and athletic division of mixed martial arts is the Lightweights. At 155lbs and under you will find some of the fastest, hardest hitting, and highest skilled fighters on the planet. There is an awful lot of debate on who is the best fighter in the lightweight division. Is it Takanori Gomi, the Japanese fireball that has taken the Pride Bushido series by storm? Is it the Brazilian phenomenon Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro, or maybe Japanese powerhouse Tatsuya Kawajiri who handed him his only loss? Perhaps it’s even the highly touted Joachim Hansen of Norway, who was the first man to beat Gomi, and recently knocked Japanese fighter Caol Uno straight out of his mind? To be honest, I can’t give you that answer, but I will explore some of the very best Lightweights of the past few years, and maybe you can come to your own conclusion.
Note: Although I do consider this list a “who’s who” of the division, I do realize there are fighters who some may feel deserve to be on this list. Unfortunately I can’t cover every single fighter, but have done my best to dig up what I could on some of the better fighters. Also, I do realize that I have grouped some bantamweight and featherweight fighters into this list, but really, it’s all the same division.
Read on for the first in this amazing four part series !!
