View Full Version : Amir As Pro.
EXIGE 05-28-2005, 08:55 AM Hey every1 i found out ages ago that Amir was a pro (well in fact after the kindelan fight) but i just want to know how u lot think he will do in his professional career. as of yet i cant rele c anything that special in him for the professional game but im still confident he will be a success. what does every1 else think on him.
heres an article about the whole Amir Khan thing (where hes fighting next blah blah)
http://www.skysports.com/skysports/article/0,,12-1182563,00.html
oh yeah and if u dont like british boxing then dont ***** about it. the thread does not need "amir is **** cos hes british" and stuff like that.
Thanks
cornerman 05-28-2005, 09:17 AM I would have liked to see Amir as an Amateur for a while longer, at least until after the world championships. He is still very young and there is no need for him to have turned pro as soon as he has, after the next Olympics he would still have only been 21. However he's with Frank Warren and you can hardly say that he's known for overmatching his fighters so im sure Amir will be eased in on a slow learning curve, just hope the public don't loose interest in him like they did with Audley, by the way whats happened to him now? It'll be interesting to see how Amir develops as a pro.
EXIGE 05-28-2005, 09:48 AM good points. Audley wanted to become heavyweight champ and many would agree because there is not much in the way of him in the heavyweight division. look on skysports it tells u loads
JUYJUY 05-28-2005, 10:23 AM Let's not forget that Amir was an outstanding Amateur, his Amateur career didn't last long but it was glittering. After totally dominating Nationally he decided to display his quick hands, timing and accuracy all over the World...
Amir won the Junior Olympics in 2003 where he was named best boxer in all weight divisions, then he won the Senior European Championships at the ripe old age of 16 where he again was named best boxer in all weight divisions, then he won the Junior World Championships where he yet again was named best boxer in all weight divisions, then came the Senior World Championships where he lost to the great Kindelan, next up was the Olympics where he again lost to the great Kindelan, and then third time lucky he beat the great Kindelan just a few weeks ago having trained "10 times harder" than he had done for the Olympics.
Amir is obviously a talent, and very assured for his age, he has added some solid power behind his punches and is willing to work hard in the gym to adapt to the professional ranks. He says that he will be a World Champion before his 21st birthday (which will break Naseem Hamed's record as youngest British World Champion) and plans on retiring at age 25!
This kid truly believes that he will be a legend, so let's just wait and see if he can adapt.. (he has tools)..
The_One77 05-28-2005, 12:23 PM is it true btw that he getting paid one millions pounds for his first pro fight?
xKillingJokex 05-28-2005, 12:27 PM seems like he has the tools to be a very good fighter. Hopefully they will ease him slowly..get some easy wins under his belt before stepping up the competition.
Manny_P 05-28-2005, 01:30 PM a lil too hasty in my opinion, but you gotta be gotta been doin what gotta be done! He look good though (no homo) !

he simply got paid just for Frank Warren to be able to promote him and to call himself a "professional"

I just started boxing...
Why would it matter if others have belief in me?
It's about if you have belief in yourself...if you have belief in yourself and trainers so it, then they will to...
I just started boxing but in 3-4 years I should be pro
I would like to fight Amir Khan in 8 years or so
I will shock the british boxing world(not meaning anything bad)
I (and Manconi) am moving to Detroit in less than a year so I can go to the famous Kronk Gym and turn pro out of there
gonna try n get 10 amateur fights before I go to Detroit
and maybe 60 or so amateur before going pro...depends how it goes, maybe more fights, or maybe less..
I am only one year younger than Khan, 16 right now, turning 17 on July the 4th..
2 opponents I would like to fight in future would be: Amir Khan, and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Thank you...
I will start my journey in Kronk in about 10 months or so..

He took silver in the 2004 olympics, in the lightweight division. He was 17 at the time, and basically blazed right through everyone they put in front of him, untill the final, where he lost to the defending olympic champion, Mario Kindelan, who was undefeated in 6 years. Khan recently beat Kindelan in a rematch, in his last fight before turning pro. The kid was an amazing amateur fighter. Whether he can be as good as a professional remains to be seen. :)

I think he would be a good professional...
I am gonna keep a eye on him. I promise I will fight him one day
We're both almost the same age, same size, same time, so we can fight each other prime for prime..
It will be a fight for the ages...I will defeat him...

You live in LA???
JUYJUY 05-29-2005, 05:11 AM It's quite incredible that Kindelan was rated as the best P4P Amateur fighter in the world and one of the best of all-time, yet 17-year-old kid Amir Khan gave almost as good as he got in the Olympic final on such a big stage. For a kid of that age it was incredible. I remember Amir was nervous in that final at first, but then he opened up right at the end and was clearly beating Kindelan late on.
Tha Greatest 05-29-2005, 05:19 AM I hope Khan can beat a lot of game fighters and make a name for himself so when I beat him I will be a legend...
If you think I'm joking, well I aint...
Same with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
both on my hit list
EXIGE 05-29-2005, 10:26 AM haha you have high hopes
mikey5time 05-29-2005, 10:57 AM Are you fighting him before or after you capture the undisputed title at every weight from Bantam to Heavy?
Just curious, need to be sure I have the right weekend off.

I haven't seen him enough to tell if he's got the goods and I thought Kindelan might beat him in their latest match. However, by all accounts he's pretty damn good. He's tall and he's been successful as an amateur.
I'd take his signing as a pro with such a influential promoter as a testament to his talent too but unfortunately his earning potential matters most to promoters and isn't necessarily the same thing as indicating his talent.
All my friends on other forums swear by him, though.
Tha Greatest 05-29-2005, 01:40 PM Are you fighting him before or after you capture the undisputed title at every weight from Bantam to Heavy?

No, I will not catch every title from bantam to heavy
I will prolly start pro as a 140 pounder...
or if i get taller 147....
If theres all bums in my weight class then I go up
but that shouldnt happen since there will be Khan..
JUYJUY 05-29-2005, 03:23 PM Will you try to unify the division?
