View Full Version : WBC stripping castillejo
AintGottaClue 05-27-2005, 11:43 AM WBC executive director Mauricio Sulaiman is confirming that jr. middleweight champion Javier Castillejo, will be shorn of his title in the coming days.
It follows the announcement of Main Events that Castillejo will be fighting Fernando Vargas, himself a twice world champion in this weight division. The two will clash on August 20th at the AllState Arena in Chicago.
The WBC has insisted that Castillejo must fight Ricardo Mayorga of Nicaragua, or forfeit his title.
Mauricio Sulaiman said: “It is very said to see something like this happen. Javier Castillejo knows he has to comply with the rules and regulation, yet he’s fighting another boxer who’s not the number one challenger. “
“We feel very let down. We’ve supported Javier Castillejo and we truly regret that he does not respect the rules-the same ones which gave him the championship.”
Main Events CEO Kathy Duva is arguing that Mayorga did not win a mandatory eliminator, he was KO’d in his last fight against Felix Trinidad, he’s lost two of his last three fights and he had weight problems at the 154 limit. So she’s arguing that Castillejo should be allowed an optional defense- and that bout should be against Fernando Vargas.
Asked for his view of the Main Events logic, Mauricio Sulaiman parried with a terse: “No comment.”
He did however put forward the WBC’s reasons for making Mayorga the official challenger. He explained:
”Mayorga was ranked four when he fought Felix Trinidad. He lost in a very good fight, in which Trinidad was knocked down by Mayorga, who was retained at number four. Oscar De La Hoya was number one, but he fought Middleweight Champion Bernard Hopkins. Number two Kofi Janttuah went and fought for the IBF title, number three Shane Mosley fought Ronald Winky Wright. So Mayorga moved to number one because of all that. “
“Wright was supposed to fight Javier Castillejo, but he gave up the title to fight Felix Trinidad at middleweight.”
“So our rules state that the Interim Champion, Javier Castillejo has to fight the highest available challenger and that’s Ricardo Mayorga.”
Both Castillejo and Vargas have already said they would prefer to have the WBC sanction in this matter, but their focus is moving ahead with the promotion of their upcoming event.
i dont understadn didnt the wbc get what they want? a mexican fighting for the title and not mayorga?
Kimmy 05-27-2005, 11:46 AM Mayorga doers not deserve the title shot. This is another instance of Don King controlling the WBC, just like he has done for years. Jose Sulliman is a criminal and should be behind bars.

Where did you get this?
PRboxingfan 05-27-2005, 12:16 PM Where did you get this?
It's on the front page.
To be fair, Vargas has not fought at 154 in almost 2 years (he was 156 against Vanderpool, so not even then) and couldn't even make 160 (he weighed in at 162) for his fight against Joval. Mayorga, on the other hand, isn't in a much better position, but he has been fighting constantly while Vargas was off. So, since Mayorga's fight against Trinidad was before Vargas' return against Joval (and Trinidad is better competition), I think Mayorga should be the rightfull #1 contender. The winner, tho, should have to fight Vargas.

Thank you sir, I'm still looking for a good news site since boxing-central went away. I dont think I've been to the front page here since last year, just a forum lurker/poster. I gotta check there more.
spinksjinx 05-27-2005, 12:34 PM Mayorga doers not deserve the title shot. This is another instance of Don King controlling the WBC, just like he has done for years. Jose Sulliman is a criminal and should be behind bars.
Vargas does? I believe if anybody should be fighting Castillejo it should be Ouma or Santos.
Mayorga has been rumored and pretty much confirmed to go against Castillejo for MONTHS. They were even scheduled to fight last weekend on the Brewster vs Golota undercard.
Vargas is just a little whiny ass and the always corrupt WBC gives into his demands.
Next we will be seeing Vargas vs Joval II for the WBC strap.
Super_Lightweight 05-27-2005, 01:43 PM Kimmy is 100% on the money. Don King is RUNNING the WBC.

Wow. What a liar and crook. They didn't even let the Mayorga-Javier fight go to purse bid. They TOLD (and it's documented on *********) Javier that he HAD to accept Don King's terms for a Mayorga fight, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. The WBC is the one not complying with their OWN damned rules. What a joke.

The fight was supposed to go on last weekend, Javier new he would be fighting for Mayorga. The only reason he wants out of it now is because he is getting a bigger check from main events to take the fall against Vargas.
154 is so damn ****ty now that Winky is gone, it is just if not WORST off than the heavyweights.
Super_Lightweight 05-27-2005, 02:09 PM I doubt Javier wants to get stripped. He was told on ********* by WBC that he ahd to accept King's terms and that's that. But yeah no matter how you slice it, Don King and WBC are corrupt mofos.
All this after that supposed trying to order a rematch between Castillo and Corrales (I was rooting for Castillo) but obviously the WBC was going with good ol' Mexican favoritism as it is again here, I'm sure we can agree on that much.
You sure they was supposed to fight this weekend? Maybe they were but the terms were not accepted yet. I dunno.

The WBC is the most crooked bastards in the sport more so than King.
Mayorga vs Castillejo was supposed to be on for the 21st on the undercard of Golota vs Brewster. HBO even announced it on a telecast and had it on there website for a while. The reason given it was pushed back was because they feared Mayorga would have more troubles with his rape trial and needed more time to train. Also Don wants to have a "blockbuster" ppv in July or August and probably saving it for that time.
The deal was done and agreed on (obviously if HBO mentions it on live camera and in print as an upcoming telecast). So I dont know what the hell the WBC and Vargas is *****ing about.
Hell the WBO is looking damn credible these days, although the only belt that really counts is the ring belt.

BOYCOTT ALL ALPHABELT BELTS!!! POWER TO THE FIGHTERS!!!
VIVE LE REVOLUTION!!!
slavik18 05-27-2005, 04:42 PM Whatever, who honestly wants to see Varga's sorry ass anyway. If anything it should be Castillejo vs Vargas, and winner of that gets Mayorga. Mayo is better than both of these fools. Also why is the WBC corrupt? Javier Castillejo is a ****ing moron he signed for BOTH mayo and Vargas. Then the WBC said : "WTF?, goodbye" They gave him rules that he has to fight Mayo, so what does he do? He goes and gets signed to fight Vargas. Just because Vargas is a whiner and Castillejo doesn't know what planet is on, doesn't mean the WBC is corrupt.
cybernica 05-27-2005, 07:44 PM Castellejo is getting 1Million if he fights Vargas but with no belt. He is probabbly looking for the easy money vs Vargas...but these cats get smoked by Mayo anyway..
So if Castellejo gets stripped...who gets the belt? Mayorga is the #1 contender according to them...that means he gets the interm belt? Even as a Mayo fan...He doesn't desever the belt..maybe we will see Santos and Mayo now that Santos is with DKP, or SIMMS.
GattiFan 05-28-2005, 12:49 AM How is Jose Sulliman corrupt? Are you retarded? Mayorga has lost two of his last three. One loss by KO. Thats...not exactly a hot streak that leads to a title shot. But..it does seem to be the trend. I mean...look who gets to make out with Ruiz next. Some no name fat russian bastard that gets a title shot for beating that mecca of boxing Cliff "Dentist Chin" Ettiene. Don King is cancer.
