View Full Version : Do You Like ShowBox?
The Next Generation? I think some of the fights can be boring, but for the most part: There are some fighters who are worth watching in the future. Namely Americo Santos...because he has some potential. Ricky Hatton was native to this show, and he is finally getting a payday against a bigtime opponent.
also What fighters do you think will recieve big paydays in the future?
Edit:
I mispelled "ShoBox". Sorry.
Truth 05-27-2005, 11:31 AM I don't have Showtime but I think its cool they have a show that shows the young talented fighters of the future.
The Troll 05-27-2005, 11:36 AM Showbox is cheap with their lighting and ****, but the fights on there are awesome and they have awesome fighters under contract. Like Jeff Lacy, Kostya Tzyu, and it seems like Showtime matches their big name guys up against tough opponents. When Lacy fought Rubin Williams and Syd VAnderpool they were both competetive fights. Just they are so cheap with commentary and lighting and **** like that compared to HBO. Dont foget it was Showtime that televised Corrales vs Castillo.
But production values are lame.

You are thinking about Showtime Championship Boxing. I meant "Shobox: The Next Generation" which is a show comprised of only up and coming fighters.
I agree with the Showtime analysis though.
DR. FREECLOUD 05-27-2005, 11:43 AM showbox is awesome. and that americo kid needs to learn how to box. he is alot like manny....swarm and overwelm with speed and power. if he had been fighting someone that had anykind of power the other night he would have been ktfo. overall showbox is a great thing. i love watching up and comers. and mcgay, of course its gonna be cheaper. they come on on thursday nights and are showing relativly unknown fighters. hbo doesn't even have a show like this to compare it to. i agree that the saturdaynight and ppv events that hbo shows are higher quality as far as lighting and such but they are showing bigger named fighters.

Why do you have to resort to name calling. Like calling me McGay because you disagree with my assesment of a TV program.

What would a McGay look like? I'm thinking thin slices of ground beef on a loaf of French bread, served with a glass of McRed wine.

Yeah....give me a couple hits of that blotter while you are at it.
Stickman 05-27-2005, 12:14 PM I like the boxing on Showtime. Good stuff, all. HBO fights have gotten ****tier and ****tier the last couple of years...mismatches, lardass fighters, overhype, etc. I don't think HBO or ESPN will manage to put on a show like the Corrales/Castillo fight this year, and that was free to Showtime subscribers. Same with Tszyu/Hatton. Won't cost an extra penny if you're already a subscriber. Gotta love a network like that. And screw HBO and their $50 and $60 PPV "events". About 90% of them truly suck. Take Tito/Winky, for example. If I hadn't had big money riding on that fight, I'd never have bothered even watching it, and if it'd been my turn to pay for the fight, I'd have been pissed off at the one-sided nature of the fight, and soured on HBO PPV's (even more than I already am...anyone remember the "Heavyweight Extravaganza" last year? [Yawn]).
And regarding ShoBox specifically....I enjoy seeing the up-and-coming young guys before they make big names for themselves. What's not to like?
Bombardier 05-27-2005, 12:14 PM The lounge isn't any good these days anyway...

oh sorry about that. musta been a finger check. it was an honest mistake. sorry. anyway. if i did call you McGay intentionally it would have been for other reasons than the fact that i disagree with your assesment.

Oh year I forgot your one of the people that hate me.
shobox is great I have watched Ishe Smith grow up a bit and we also got too see David Estrada on the program as well.
Kid Diamond has been on show box, Mike Arnoutis as well as Koba Gogaladze...there have been a lot of others as well...it is a great boxing show for the boxing addict.
I miss KO Nation on HBO, granted they went at it with the wrong angle with Ed Lover doing his **** in the ring and making it into a spectacle but KO Nation had some good fights on during saturday afternoons.
Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Emanuel Burton was awesome, Floyd won easily but he also took more punches in that fight than any before, if you want to see Floyd bleeding all over the place watch that fight.
Also KO Nation was the first to televise a young undeafeated ko artist named Acelino Freitas...I wish they would rethink it and come back.

KO Nation was horrible in my opinion (they did have some good fights I admit). Boxing after Dark is awesome. That what program had Jirov vs Toney and alot of Gatti fights. Boxeo De Oro is cool too. La Espanol Commentaire does not bother me really.

you are dead wrong there. i hate noone. perhaps you didn't take my last reply seriously. sad to be as pessimistic as you i guess. i have never even conversated with you before. perhaps thats the course i should follow from here on out. late.
neils7147933 05-27-2005, 02:56 PM ShoBox is great.
The first time I saw Ricky Hatton, David Estrada, Chris Smith, Jameel McCline, Paulie Malignaggi, Kid Diamond, Mike Arnaoutis, Rico Hoye, Sam Peter it was on ShoBox
ShoBox also had Rocky Juarez, Juan Diaz, Kermit Cintron before HBO ever started showing them...
I like Steve Farhood's analysis and I like the production on the show, even though it's below HBO's Boxing After Dark. With ShoBox, Showtime shows boxing more than HBO, and the fights, though often featuring lesser names, are often better than the big boys on HBO...

Same here, big ShoBox fan. I love to watch the youth of boxing, cause some of them are the future.
As for Juarez, Cintron and Diaz (along with Bojado) I first started watching them on NBC's Budweiser series, which I'm missing right now. I've searched the web for info and come up with nothing so far for this yr.

i agree with that. you gotta remember the guys on showbox are trying to make thier name. they are going that extra mile

hbo after dark again are higher ranked fighters. usually guys on the verge of ppv status. showbox is showing guys that only have small handfull of fights on thier record. some of them have more but the intent is to showcase the new talent. something boxing after dark isn't trying to do. they are trying to push these guys over the ppv mark so they can make some more ppv money.
