Two-time world jr. middleweight champion Fernando Vargas will battle WBC Jr. Middleweight Champion Javier Castillejo on August 20 at the AllState Arena in Chicago, IL, it was announced today by Main Events CEO Kathy Duva. In the 12 round co-feature bout, undefeated WBC/IBF #1 ranked Featherweight contender Rocky Juarez vies for his first world title when he challenges WBC Featherweight Champion In Jin Chi in a potential "Fight of the Year" candidate. Both bouts will be broadcast live on HBO. "The contract is completed and we are happy to announce this great fight," said Duva. The WBC has announced that unless Javier Castillejo accepts a deal from Don King Productions, Inc. to fight Ricardo Mayorga, he will be stripped of his title. Castillejo and Fernando Vargas have asserted that Mayorga is not a proper mandatory opponent. Both have also stated that although they would prefer to receive the WBC sanction, in the interest of moving forward with the event's promotion the sanction will be required for the bout to take place. Vargas has filed for arbitration on the matter before the Association of Boxing Commissions. "Javier Castillejo is a champion with or without the WBC belt," said Duva. "We believe that the designation of Mayorga as a mandatory opponent was improper for the following reasons: Mayorga did not win a mandatory eliminator, as the WBC rules require; he was knocked out in his last bout; he has lost two of his three last bouts; and he failed to make weight the only time in his career he was scheduled to fight at 154 lbs. However you slice it we believe Mayorga is not a legitimate mandatory under the WBC Rules and that Castillejo should be allowed to make an optional defense against Vargas."

Wow, this is ****ing bull****. Vargas is a goddamn *****, and so is Castillejo. Castillejo has been dodging Mayorga for 4 months now. Instead he accepts Vargas? Vargas was offered a fight against Mayorga and he also declined. **** this, if Vargas gets the belt, which I hope to god he loses, Mayorga will take it back from that shot *****.

hopefully Vargas wins (cause he doesnt dodge anybody) and hopefully this ignites a fire under Mayorga so he can start getting focused.

Mayorga vs. Vargas should be great

These guys are scared to MAYORGA! The new fernando Vargas will get pummeled by vargas! he is slow as hell and lacks the furiocious fire he had before! Vargas of old would have put up a hell of a fight but vargas aint dumb, he knows if mayorga fought javier he would win and then vargas would have to fight mayorga for a shot at that wbc belt and loose by knockout.

It looks like Castillejo is getting a little big headed,as it shows that he is scheduled to fight both Mayorga and Vargas in a one month span,LMAO!

Vargas wants to fight Castillejo for the WBC belt, but Castillejo will get stripped if he doesn't fight the mandatory Mayorga.I doubt Vargas would want to fight Castillejo with no belt at stake.

HAHA thats is the funniest thing i have ever seen. Im a big Mayorga fan, and ive been waiting for this for sooooooooooooooooooo long. Castillejo is a f'en ***** and i hate him. Why does Mayorga not meet the requirements for a WBC mandatory? and somehow Vargas does. And who the hell does Castillejo think he is, the belt was given to him by default. He has no right to complain about who deserves a shot, the ***** hasnt even proved himself yet.... needless to say... im very dissappointed about what has happenned.

The WBC should mandate a BOX OFF between Vargas and Mayorga w/the winner becoming the mandatory challenger for Javier's belt.

I believe Mayorga would poleax Vargas in the late rounds. Then, surprisngly enough, Castillejo will outbox Mayorga for 12 rounds and become a legit force in the '54 weight class until Ouma takes his belt.
