Is there a better story teller than Floyd Mayweather? During his recent media tour, he visited the offices of USA Today and was asked about mixed martial arts cutting into the boxing fanbase. The legendary pugilist responded by telling a story that suggested he pointed UFC president Dana White in the right direction.

"My uncle Jeff Mayweather is the one who started Dana White off," said Floyd Mayweather. "I first met Dana White in 1996. He was a boxing aerobics trainer but he didn't know nothing about boxing. My uncle Jeff taught him about contact sports."

Mayweather said he introduced White to a woman with deep pockets and the rest is history. All this time we thought White put this together because he went to high school in Las Vegas with Lorenzo Fertitta. That sets the record straight.

No he isn't Floyd is pretty much telling the truth.

Dana started off owning some hole in the wall boxing gym in New York. Then the Irish Mob was giving him trouble and he moved out to Vegas because of death threats. Someone helped him out in Vegas, I do believe it was a woman, I am not totally sure because I can't recall 100% but it was someone in Vegas. Then he began his managing/promoting career in boxing, he caught glimpse of the UFC and then baught into that with the Bros. The rest is history.

Floyd is pretty much telling the truth on this one though. It really doesn't bring any negativity to him. No matter who you are, you have to be introduced to something by someone to learn about it. In this case combat sports for Dana.

Dana never owned a gym in New York.

Actually, he is on to something. White really did own a gym at some point(boxing or fitness can't remember which), but he had to jump ship on it due to mob threats or something along those lines. Whether or not Mayweather had a hand in Dana White's intro to boxing may or may not be true though.

I'm not denying his claims of the Irish Mob muscling him out, but the Irish Mob, last time I checked was in Boston, not NY.
