Is it better to run shorter distances more often (1-2 miles a day) or longer distances less often (4-5 miles 2-3 times a week.
For building stamina and conditioning.

Shorter distances more often. Keeps your body working most of the time throughout the day #1, the consistancy is key #2, and running 4-5 miles can be tough on the average body, so short distances more often with rest in between is more advantageous.

But this is just my opinion, and my experience. Other people will have other options that they swear by from their experience. Do what works for you yeah?

I would rather do 100m,200m,400m sprints

but if you decide to run long distances 3+miles i would run them as fast as possible

I like to run 3 miles 2 times a week, and 2 miles 2 times a week, and Im planning on doing alot of sprints as its getting nicer outside where I live (**** the snow)... I can barely handle doing the long distance in the cold, but now that the weathers getting better I can breathe better when I run.

basically what these guys said. you gotta do it all. if you only run long distances then your gonna gas. say your dancing around the ring and you throw a flurry, your heart rate will go up and youll probably recover the first few times but you wont be able to keep it up. You have to train not only long distance but high intensity (sprints and complexes). Also you have to apply it to actual boxing too. You got to be intense in all your boxing training (sparring, mitts, bag work, shadowboxing, rope and so on. Just because you run long distance and do HIT training doesnt mean youll be able to carry it over to boxing if you arent being intense and putting in your boxing work.

I usually run 2-miles three-times a week and 6-miles one time a week. If you do have bad knees, you could also try swimming laps or riding a bike as they are less intensive on your knees. I do agree that you not only need to work on your endurance and stamina by running or biking or swimming long distances but you also need to work on short bursts. If you job on track or street, you could mix in sprints to your jog.

variety is always good. why not mix them up. also listen to your body before u do them. try adding sprints at least once or twice a week.

Mix it up, A long jog everyone day or few days is pointless. In boxing you burn a lot of energy in a short amount of time and you need to train your body to recover. Doing Sprints helps that. Also you should use the stair machine on some days. Stairs build your leg strength a lot.

Long runs are more for weight control.

Def mix it up.
