oldgringo 05-23-2005, 12:06 AM Aiight...I know there are a bunch of people on here that like rap/hip-hop and want to discuss different aspects of the music and culture. This is your thread.
Post news, songs, lists, etc...

oldgringo 05-23-2005, 12:14 AM For starters:
Redman to Drop Album July 19th
Led by the brand new single “Gillahouse Check” (check out our audio section) Reggie Noble’s album Red Gone Wild, is set to drop July 19th.

What do you all think about this. I like the single a lot and Red is a beast in the game. I'm glad he's back in 2005...
neils7147933 05-23-2005, 12:17 AM You heard Cowboy Troy yet, gringo?

Foxy Browns Says Fight Never Happened
Jacki-O said she and Foxy Brown had a fistfight last week at a Miami studio, Foxy Brown, on the other hand denies the fight actually happened.
Jacki-O has already released a diss called TKO directed at Fox Boogie, you can hear it in our audio section.
oldgringo 05-23-2005, 12:27 AM You heard Cowboy Troy yet, gringo?
No I haven't...elaborate.
oldgringo 05-23-2005, 12:28 AM Oh yeah one more thing before I forget...

Anyone have proof of this?
but then theres this...
Jackie-O and Foxy Brown Fight at Miami Studio
That's right, this ain't no rumor cause we got it straight from the people who were there:
Def Jam recording artist Foxy Brown fought with Jackie-O (Poe Boy Records) in Circle House Studios in Miami, FL.
Foxy arrived in the studios while Jackie-O was writing some lyrics.
Apparently Foxy Brown wanted to use one of the label's instrumental and she had some words for Jackie-O
According to our source, Jackie-O beat Foxy up and stole her purse...
jack_the_rippuh 05-23-2005, 12:35 AM Oh yeah one more thing......

Alright, I'm done.
Mike Jones makes Houston look bad and to a slightly lesser degree so does Lil Flip. Those two are the last ones I want representing Houston.
neils7147933 05-23-2005, 01:56 AM No I haven't...elaborate.
It's probably not your thing, but it's interesting to listen to at least once.
Do you have LAUNCH so that you could watch his video?

Troy's bio:
A six-foot five-inch, hick-hop artist is going to get a response, and Cowboy Troy is okay with the strong reactions and endless questions. "I have crazy intentions," he says with a grin, referencing the title of his Raybaw Records/Warner Bros. Records debut album Loco Motive.
Music, after all, is supposed to be entertaining, and Loco Motive is nothing if not fun. But anyone who thinks the Cowboy Troy experience ends there, doubts his country credentials, or is inclined to dismiss the album as a novelty, is in for quite a surprise. "People have different paths," Troy says. "I'm not going to apologize for my music, because this is who I am. I didn't just wake up one morning, put on a cowboy hat, and get a gig rapping on a country album. You don't do something for 15 years on a lark."
Cowboy Troy rapped his way into the country mainstream on the first cut of Big & Rich's 2004 debut Horse Of A Different Color. And while his admonition to "let go of all your preconceived notions" certainly wasn't the first time elements of rap had been incorporated into country, it was the boldest statement yet.
Explaining the journey that placed Troy Coleman at this unlikely intersection is as complicated as explaining the evolution of American culture. At the same time it's as simple as the story of a kid from Texas who did what all kids do--he soaked up the world around him.
Troy grew up in Ft. Worth, where his dad took him to rodeos and stock shows. "We'd listen to Willie Nelson, Jerry Reed, Charlie Daniels, Kenny Rogers, and other artists who were getting airplay on the adult contemporary stations at that time," Troy says. "I didn't realize it was country music, I just knew it was what my parents listened to before they went to work in the morning."
His teenage years coincided with the emergence of MTV, and Troy was hooked from the start. Moving to Dallas at 13, he was introduced to a new sound. "My friends were like, 'What's all that you're listening to?' I thought everybody listened to Def Leppard, but they turned me on to rap. That's where Run DMC came in."
As a freshman psychology major at the University Of Texas, Troy had a musical epiphany. "I was listening to Metallica, the grunge stuff out of Seattle, all kinds of things," he says. "People in the dorm asked me, 'Have you heard of Garth Brooks?' I said, 'Who?' A buddy lent me a George Strait CD and I was blown away. I remember telling myself that this is what I need to be listening to.
"My first college concert was Strait at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin," he continues. "The crowd went absolutely nuts as soon as he stepped out on stage. The atmosphere was unbelievable and that's when I really began to nurture my country fetish."
A cowboy hat and western shirt became part of his arsenal, as did a few stock raps he could do at the country dance clubs he began to frequent. "It was a pretty neat party trick," Troy laughs. "It was just a fun thing to do while I was out running around. But by my sophomore year I was writing my own stuff." His notoriety grew to the point that people began asking club DJs if they'd seen Troy, Cowboy Troy. "The name just stuck," he says.
After college, Troy worked as a human resources consultant, but kept up with music by performing in the area and continuing to write songs. When his mother died from cancer in 2001, he reassessed every aspect of his life and recommitted himself to his music. Six months later he released a three-song EP called Hick Hop Hysteria. "I've still got stacks of boxes," he laughs. "They make great beer coasters and Frisbees."
That effort was followed by Beginner's Luck, self-produced and marketed on consignment at area record stores. "That was a full-length album," Troy says. "It had a combination of live tracks and programmed beats. I liked the live tracks better."
Troy soon began making trips to Nashville, bringing music to friend John Rich, who he first met in a Dallas club in 1993, and becoming a regular at gatherings of the newly formed MuzikMafia. The loose association of artists and musicians became a creative breeding ground that spawned not only Big & Rich, but Gretchen Wilson, and now, Cowboy Troy.
The success of Big & Rich's now-double-platinum album led to major media appearances for Troy including the ACM and CMA awards shows in 2004. Troy also ended up on tour with Tim McGraw, performing during Big & Rich's opening set and later with McGraw himself. A record deal soon followed.
Loco Motive is the first release from MuzikMafia's Raybaw Records, an imprint of Warner Bros./Nashville. The name stands for "red and yellow, black and white" and refers to the cultural and musical diversity embraced by the MuzikMafia. Taking that sentiment even further is Troy's penchant for foreign languages, represented on the album by raps in English, Spanish, German, French, Japanese, Russian, and Mandarin Chinese.
As much as Loco Motive pushes the envelope, there's no arguing the fact that, thematically, it's a country record. Honkytonk rockers like "My Last Yee Haw" and "El Tejano" are interspersed with emotional ballads including "Somebody's Smilin' On Me" and "If You Don't Wanna Love Me." Further, the collection offers relatable slice-of-life tales drawn from Troy's own experiences, be it "Ain't Broke Yet" or "Crick In My Neck." Guests include MuzikMafia mates Sarah Buxton ("If You Don't Wanna Love Me"), James Otto ("Beast On The Mic"), and Big & Rich on numerous cuts. Tim McGraw lends his vocals to "Somebody's Smilin' On Me."
Troy knows he's challenging conventional thinking about what country music is, but expects that his music will find its place. "I've never been like everybody else and it wouldn't do me any good to try," he says. "Some people are going to love it and some are going to hate it, which is probably how it should be because it means they're talking." "A lot of work has gone into this, and a lot of fun was had in the process," he adds. "I hope people who buy this record have a good time, but I don't want anyone to think I don't take what I do seriously. Because I do. I'm pretty proud of this record."

LL was unreal when he first came out and then again when Marley Marl revived his career in the late 80's early 90's. He's one of the 5-7 best to ever do it IMO.

No one take offence, its just my opinion, and anytime you're discussing music, it's all opinionated arguements anyway. So I leave you with some Cherchez la ghost.......
Brothers try to pass me, but none could match me
No girl can freak me, I'm just too nasty
Lost on the dance floors, I attack y'all
Snuck through the back door, guess who they saw?
Goldie and Ghost, black African Rose
Star-studded low lenses, plus the mural was dope
Airbrush W-B's, STOP!
(Shake your body, body)
And cop a couple of these
(She's a hottie, hottie)
The Fix 05-25-2005, 11:30 PM thats one of my fav ghost songs, my fav is prob apollo kids or one but there are so many good songs. i also like biscuits and holla. daytona 500, strawberry, and camay are all up there as well
oldgringo 05-26-2005, 01:46 AM what do you guys think about cormega? i think he has become better than nas. imo he is a top 10 lyricist right now.
the realness is my fav by him
Mega is still nowhere near Nas IMO. His last album was good but wasn't consistent enough for me. Theres also the thing about him sampling two other beats that I heard used way before his album dropped...
If anyone has passed Nas its AZ and he did it awhile ago. Lyrically one of the 5 best in the game these days and rarely comes with some weak shit. 2 classic albums (Doe or Die & Aziatic) and 3 other very good albums (Pieces of a Man, 9 Lives, Final Call). A lot of his early work was without the aid of bonafide production too. For my money, his best song is better than Nas' best song too.

Apollo Kids is dope but I like songs like "One" and "Ghostshowers" more. Ghostshowers pulls out the grimiest sampling of old soul tracks to provide the beat. It's just an ill track all around.

ghost showers was great too as was the sun with the rza, raekwon and slick rick. i love that song.
i love that grimey sound the wu has.
method man and mary j blige were great on all i need, thats what im listening to right now, and i loved the video for that song. tical was a great album
oldgringo 05-26-2005, 03:02 AM Two groups I need to bring to the table are Binary Star and The People Under The Stairs.
One Be Lo is one of the most underrated emcees in the game and is a monster on anything he does. His flow is water and he drops knowledge on everything he's on. DL and listen to The KGB and Reality Check to see what i'm talking about. His last album S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M. was pretty nice and he's only going to get better with age.
The People Under The Stairs hold it down for the left coast and make my favorite head-nod shit ever. Everything I listen to of theirs makes me want to spark a blunt and go to some beach and chill the **** out. Download and listen to Montego Slay and Acid Raindrops to see what I mean.

Second both those groups. personally though, i think senim silla was a little better than one be lo. what happened to him anyway? i def like the songs you mentioned plus i know why the caged bird sings (both versions), for the record, and honest expression.
also, i liked san francisco knights from p.u.t.s

That's my favorite Ghost song, he's my favorite from the Wu, Him and Rza. Have you read the Wu-Tang manual yet? Rza is a pretty weird dude, it gets more into how he makes beats and how he did the 36 chambers album towards the end. A must read for Wu fans....

id say pete rock and rick reuben are right up there with him, maybe even the rza too.
oldgringo 05-28-2005, 05:13 PM Well I'd say that Pete Rock, Jazzy Jeff, Dre, Reuben, Prince Paul, Marley Marl, Rza and the like are all up there with him, but not quite as good as he is. He lays it down on every song he's on, he brought an entirely new style of scratching to the table, he's done entire CLASSIC albums for artists which got their career going or put them on the map, and he's part of one of the most memorable hip-hop duo's ever.
I can't name a bad Primo beat unless its some shit where he was just trying to get way too adventurous.
Just look at what he's done for Afu-Ra, Jeru tha Damaja, Pitch Black, Guru...
And he's done some dope shit for crossover/R&B artists as well.
Primo's been THE rock in hip-hop since the early 90's.
The Fix 05-28-2005, 06:19 PM for me it goes like this:
1.Marley Marl
2.pete rock
3.premier
4.dr.dre
5.Eric B
6.rza
7.havoc

I've heard of them. Necro in particular has a dark edge to his flow and material. I prefer how Tech N9ne pulls off the whole dark side of subject matter but Necro is pretty good.

I like Cam'Ron a lot, JR Writer has some potential, and Jim Jones is funny...but the rest of dipset sucks. The Heatmakerz are getting very popular and I enjoy those old school soul samples they use though...they definitely got beats on lock.

matter of fact im begining to really hate seal, lucky bastard. seriously how can anyone be this lucky? he is ugly mofo, even worse than rat hamilton with his mask on and yet he has everything.
btw as you guys may or may not know i give every rapper a chance, i listen to most stuuf that comes out but anyway im listening to some tony yayo songs and he is just terrible. seriously he may be the worst rapper of our time. where is his flow? his lyrics are pure ass, i mean he actually said " you have mirrors in your pants cause i can see me in them" thats just pathetic, its the worst line since lil flips " ill treat you like milk do nothing but spoil you". it sounds like he doesnt even pride himself on his work.
out of five this is how i grade yayo:
lyrics-0
flow- -7 he doesnt have flow so ill give him a negative 7
content- 1, he really doesnt speak on anything but his chain and cars.

well i dont think he is the greatest of all time, he had potential to be but with only two albums its hard to say he was the greatest. its kinda like sayin pun was the best of all time
jack_the_rippuh 06-02-2005, 03:14 PM Pun was the greatest Latino of all time.
The Fix 06-02-2005, 03:15 PM Pun was the greatest Latino of all time.
well there really isnt a lot of competition
fat joe is trash
nore is garbage
the only guy that rivals pun is prob chino.
RunW/Knives 06-02-2005, 03:17 PM I personally think B-Real is the greatest latino of all time.

sorry sir :o
joe sucks
jack_the_rippuh 06-02-2005, 03:30 PM Big L was a great rapper, in my opinion also.
He didn't really have a raw voice, but he had some crazy rhymes and punchlines.
RunW/Knives 06-02-2005, 03:31 PM I think Jay-z is the coolest and best rapper in the game. The black album is one of the best albums ever created by anyone all time. That guy keeps outdoing himself, whenever he realeases a new one as well.

oldgringo 06-02-2005, 03:48 PM I've never heard a verse thats this insane. Can-I-Bus brought straight fire on this shit...
Canibus brings the sickest drama,
Fierce enough to pierce the thickest armor
I smack bitches who try to suck dick through a condom
Playing with the mic is something I wont do
My only concern when I approach you, is to roast you
I smoke you and whoever you standing close to
And make every man in your crew deny that he knows you
Defeating, *****s like segal steven,
Putting emcees in, positions to prevent ’em from breathing
I’ll make you question any and everything you’ve ever believed in
By peeping your deepest secrets like psychic readers,
What’s the matter with ya’ll, I splatter ya’ll
Against the mutha ****in wall with these raw lyrics I catapult
None of y’all got the balls big enough to battle,
I go on & on like erika badu
A hundred times nicer than the best there is
Twice as african as krs is, who wanna test this
**** y’all you don’t impress me and no one can test me
An emcee so ill, I got aids scared to catch me
All that shit you poppin will stop, when I put you in a headlock,
And apply pressure until I crush your mutha ****in noggin
I grab mics and push *****s to the left
So fast their hearts end up on the right side of their chests
My hypothesis, is that nobody can see this
Lyrical genius, I got it sown like a seamstress
But if you want to battle, I’m down,
If you got nine lives, I’ll take eight of them off your hands right now
Step up and get your neck cut from ear to ear
If you survive, then you can cover your scar with a beard
I’m the illest from queens to the new jerusalem briddicks
Anyone who ain’t feeling my shidick can suck my didick
You need to quit it, if you ain’t spitten
More than 50 bars per minute cause you ain’t in lyrical fitness
Kickin’ boring raps with metaphors that’s wack
All of y’all mutha ****as need nordic track
To get ya weight up, ****in with canibus you get ate up
Get beat down and sprayed up, just for bringing my name up
Been rockin longer than *****s twice my age
Back in the days before bob marley was rockin a fade
Before honest abe signed the paper that freed slaves
Before neanderthals was drawing on walls in caves
I existed, in the garden of eden gettin lifted
Stickin dick to eve before she was adams mistress
Before christ created christmas, I been in lyrical fitness
The canibus is spitten till’ he’s spitless
50 bars of total sickness, you wont forget this
I’m puttin’ every wack emcee alive on my shit list
Verbally vicious, tele-connectically gifted
Took you a minute, to exhibit that I’m sick wit it
Now you tell me who you think is damaging shit
Going once, going twice

oldgringo 06-02-2005, 04:11 PM What do you bitches know about Talib Kweli?
He's my favorite artist today. His verse on "The Truth" was beautiful. He completely outshined Common and Pharoahe on that track.
Talib Kweli's poem/rap/verse on this episode of Def Poetry Jam was unreal. I've never seen more emotion put into anything like that. I don't like poetry much but that shit was amazing.

Dress up like ladies and burn 'em with dirty 380's
jack_the_rippuh 06-04-2005, 06:36 PM All my life I been considered as the worst
Lyin' to my mother, even stealin' out her purse
Crime after crime, from drugs to extortion
I know my mother wished she got a ****in' abortion
She don't even love me like she did when I was younger
Suckin' on her chest just to stop my ****in' hunger
I wonder if I died, would tears come to her eyes?
Forgive me for my disrespect, forgive me for my lies
My babies' mothers 8 months, her little sister's 2
Who's to blame for both of them (naw *****, not you)
I swear to God I just want to slit my wrists and end this bullshit
Throw the Magnum to my head, threaten to pull shit
And squeeze, until the bed's, completely red
I'm glad I'm dead, a worthless ****in' buddah head
The stress is buildin' up, I can't,
I can't believe suicide's on my ****in' mind
I want to leave, I swear to God I feel like death is ****in' callin' me

You can't tell me shit about your hood, I walked on your beat
I know your whole life story, plus I've seen for myself
You got caught smoking dope, that's why they sent you to jail
Had you locked up with wet backs, only real *****s suffer set backs
90 days and I ain't goin' to respect that

The last verse goes.
There was this girl around the way that make cats drool
Her name's Drew, played fools out they money in pool
People swore we was ****in but we was just cool
She used to hang while I slang my drugs after school
She'd watch my bomb, help my moms with the groceries
My little sister, the girl was kinda close to me
A little closer than the average girl's supposed to be
Far from a lover, my girl was jealous of her
Then she started messin with some major players
Handled keys, *****s called them the Bricklayers
A dread kid, had a baby fore that bitch Taya
Found out her baby's father cheatin, now Drew she gotta slay her
One night, across from the corner store
Taya ran around the block with a chrome four-four
Squeezed all six shots in the passenger door
The dude lived, what my baby had to die for
We missin her

Atwa_66 06-05-2005, 07:28 PM Yo...
Don't make me flip on you
Actually you can't make me do nothing
I might decide to
I used to mush thugs
And now I push drugs
I knew a kid that put slugs in his own mug
Used to show me his guns
Ain't a cat that knows me a son
Remember violence at only one
I used to watch my pops untreat a girl
And beef with the world
He had a bone to pick
That's why my dome was sick
It rubbed off on me
'Cause the apple don't fall far from the tree g
You cats keep your distance
Cause your scared I might flip in an instant
When I was filled with innocence
I was still committing sins
Half of you cats are sweet like cinnamon
I shove a knife in your grin
I run with convicts who stick up kids
That'll rob you for six bucks bitch
We flip right before you expect it
Because we were neglected, as children now we're hectic
We shot men and we rob gems
I seen cats that used to clock me, now I clock them
Got easier, access to a glock-10
In case, one in ya face is the only option
Necro with Ill Bill
Walk around like - murder, murder, kill, kill
Gun up in your grill
Now you screaming chill, chill
Didn't have your steer now you get your cap peeled
This is our life, our life
Necro with Ill Bill
Walk around like - murder, murder, kill, kill
Gun up in your grill
And you screaming chill, chill
Didn't have your steer now you get your cap peeled
This is our life, our life
Ayo, I grew up in the mother****ing projects
My moms says if my pop left
We would have to get a sectionade apartment
The rents cheap, I see decepticons at least
Ten deep, run up on me flipping, wanna set beef
That was some ****** shit, me and my brother went for do-lo
The only 2 white kids up in my projects that wasn't homo
I fought every day, beefed with a hundred cats
Way before I started sold drugs and busting caps
Way before I bust my first nut, I loved to rap
At 10 years old is when I first started to **** with that
Everyone else in my PJ's knew I was black
I kept it to myself, continued to define my crap
I used to buy my mother milk draggin' a ****ed bat
You ****ed with me, I was the type of cat to fight back
I lace you with a broken nose, holding the ice pack
Whites, blacks, Puerto Rican's, we was poor, it was wack
My mom tried her best
I never graduated high school
I learned to pump drugs and pack knives instead
Became one of those violent heads
Have you on a respirator,
Even though the doctor know your mind is dead
Necro with Ill Bill
Walk around life - murder, murder, kill, kill
Gun up in your grill
And you screaming chill, chill
Didn't have ?your steer? now you get your cap peeled
This is our life, our life
Necro with Ill Bill
Walk around life - murder, murder, kill, kill
Gun up in your grill
And you screaming chill, chill
Didn't have ?your steer? now you get your cap peeled
This is our life, our life
Our Life- Necro and Ill Bill
If you've never heard this song, then you don't know what's up. Necro and Ill Bill are the hottest shit around.

masterdirector 06-06-2005, 04:54 PM Okay I can get a Yahoo account set up. We can meet in Yahoo's "In The Ring" for the live "keystyle." That'll be one round. 2 rounds can be on this message board. SlipX can decide who goes first. Whoever goes first in the first round goes last in the 2nd round to make it fair.
Judges can be umm...whoever. Just don't be biased toward either of us.

dre has to have saved the best beats for himself
it'll prob get pushed back until next year though, aftermath is squeezing every penny they can out of g-unit while they are hot.
thats a good idea though, a dre album always sells and this g-unit thing has to eventually derail
masterdirector 06-07-2005, 12:59 AM sounds good. yeah I'm fine with not doing the yahoo live thing just whatever is fine. Hell I hate yahoo chat anyhow. possible it won't even go down because Slipx'll...well, enough said.

Jun 6 - Game Ends 50 Cent Truce With Verbal Attacks At Summer Jam
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To say the truce between the Game and 50 Cent came to a screeching halt Sunday night would be an understatement. Think more along the lines of a major derailment, much like the big scene in "Speed," when the subway train carrying Keanu Reeves and
Sandra Bullock crashes through the pavement and lands above ground.
For weeks there had been rumors that Game was making unfavorable remarks about 50 and the G-Unit while performing on the How the West Was One Tour. It was fodder for Internet message boards and made radio gossip reports, but the rumblings never materialized into anything substantial. G-Unit members haven't exactly given props to Game in some of their recent interviews either, but everything had been relatively calm.
During Summer Jam, the New York tri-state area's biggest hip-hop concert of the year, the Game's frustrations boiled over while onstage in New Jersey's Giants Stadium, and he took several verbal shots at the G-Unit. The rapper also had people dressed up in a gorilla suit and a rat costume — representing 50's alleged snitching — both wearing G-Unit T-shirts and getting beaten in a mocking manner by Game's clique.
From the onset of Game's set, the Compton, California, native let it be known he would not be in Jersey with his "tail between his legs" backing down from his problems with 50. He performed "Hate It or Love It," rapping 50's verse as well his own, switching up a line here and there to relay anti-G-Unit sentiment, such as "I ain't f---ing with five-0/ It's all starting to make sense."
Later Game introduced a new slogan, "G-G-G-U-Not!"
There was a slight undercurrent of booing when Game voiced his feelings towards the G-Unit, and that's when Dr. Dre's protégé really expressed himself.
Game explained that he had love for New York, but he was kicked out of the G-Unit because "they were hating." He said the crowd shouldn't hate him because he hates 50. Game even yelled "F--- 50" while holding his son in his arms before performing "Dreams."
The crowd started to warm up to Game more and more as he continued to use his platform to try and humiliate his former business associates. The lanky MC even threw a G-Unit chain he once wore proudly into the audience like it nothing more than a used tissue going into a garbage can.
"I don't follow suit like f----t ass Yayo," Game roared. He later threatened to "knock out" Tony Yayo and Lloyd Banks.
It became evident that Game's set was more therapy than performance — and that he had been waiting to get a lot off of his chest. Game even started to detail the infamous night at Hot 97's station, when a member of his crew was shot (see "50 Drops Game From G-Unit; Shots Fired At Radio Station"), accusing 50 of being scared to come outside and saying the G-Unit general was rushed out of the back of the building.
The tirade ended, ironically, with Game performing the song he and 50 made famous, "This Is How We Do." Before going into the verses, Game had more unfavorable words for the entire crew: "50 Cent can suck my ... / Tony Yayo can suck my ... /G-Unit can suck my ..."
Game's performance will undoubtedly be the one most talked about for the weeks to come — however, the highest point of the show came via a man who wasn't even on the bill: Jay-Z.
