Project Pat To Be Released From Prison In July
By Nolan Strong and Houston Williams
Date: 6/25/2005 3:00 pm

Three Six Mafia member Project Pat will be released from prison on July 28, after being sentenced to four years for weapons offenses.

The Memphis, Tennessee rapper was sent to prison in June of 2002, after being convicted on two counts of firearm possession as a felon.

In January of 2001, Pat was pulled over for speeding when police found 2 revolvers under the seat of his SUV.

According to group member DJ Paul, Pat has spent his time behind bars wisely, penning songs and even authoring a book.

“He [Pat] wrote over 200 songs, all in jail,” DJ Paul told AllHipHop.com. “He’s got a new single coming and his brand new album will come out in late January, called Crook by the Book.”

After he is released from the Missouri prison where he is incarcerated, the rapper will spend another five months in a halfway house.

Pat was also assigned three years of supervised release following his confinement and a $75,000 fine.

“We are just going to go to the studio when he comes out,” DJ Paul said. “We are gonna party in the studio.”

In related news, the group has already started plans for the third installment of their popular straight-to-DVD movie, Choices.

The most recent edition, Choices 2: The Setup hit stores in March

Who's production is better?

Da Beatminerz

or

Alchemist

I personally vote for Da Beatminerz because they've been laying down dope **** for awhile now. Smif-n-Wessun (Dah Shinin) and Black Moon (Enta Da Stage) have both put out classic, must-have albums featuring their production and I think they've just had a greater body of work. I also think they've helped out lesser known guys like Krumb Snatcha and Last Emperor to get more recognition.

I'm just playing devils advocate.

Anyone can become a rapper as long as you have a mic, some beats and something to record your vocals. You might not be good but that's how you become a rapper. To be a successful rapper you have to have MONEY and alot of PROMOTION. To be a successful good rapper you have to have some talent, MONEY and alot of PROMOTION.

Promotion is the greatest tool. Great promotion can make the most wackest rapper the most money. Just look at Mike Jones.

How is that ignorant when I don't like his work? I have never liked his work since before Cash Money became famous. The only ones I have really ever like on Cash Money are Juvenile, BG and UNLV. Cash Money is alive for one reason...Manny Fresh.

He and DJ Paul (same situation) are easily two of the ten best producers of the last 10 or so years and their beats are great despite the lack of lyrical staying power. Now that Juve is back somewhat CM is a bit better and Wayne has stepped it up too.

I've never liked anyone from Cash Money either though, outside of Manny, Juve, and Wayne (sometimes). I've heard that CD though and it's pretty much the same as always...nothing really wowed me.

Manny Fresh carries the cash money record label on his shoulders, but you can't say none of them help. Lil wayne, like him or not, has made some pretty good albums, and sells great. Juveniles "400 degreez" sold tons of records because of "Back that ass up" It got tons of play on Mtv, and helped the record. I bought that record and was not really impressed by Juvenile, but mostly with the Hot Boys, they are pretty good too.

yeah it was back in '99. Good albums never get bad though, I could listen to that for awhile. I don't like everyone from cash money, I like Baby's new album, most of Lil waynes work, all of juves, and most of the hot boys. I agree. Even though that's true I still give Manny Fresh a lot of credit...there is no denying his beatmaking. He only ****s up when he tries to make those over the top, electronic sounding beats with the ****ed up snare kicks and ****.

Also next time notice that the "stickys" section will be "at the top" for some time, people make them that way, a dumbass would think that they were continually being replied to, when in reality they've been up there for some time.

B.I.G. Trial Ready to Roll

According to the Notorious B.I.G.'s family, the rapper's murder case is still very much alive.
Unfortunately, the family claims, it seems to be doing all the legwork.

"No family should have to do the job of the LAPD," said Perry R. Sanders Jr., the attorney representing the slain rapper's estate. Sanders spoke at a Los Angeles press conference Monday on the eve of the family's federal wrongful death trial against the Los Angeles Police Department.

Flanked by Biggie's mother, Voletta Wallace, and ex-wife, Capitol recording artist Faith Evans, Sanders revealed a never-before-seen search warrant and affidavit in an effort to counter recent Los Angeles Times stories saying the police investigation into the rapper's shooting death was troubled and suggesting the family's lawsuit was on shaky ground.

Biggie was gunned down in L.A.'s mid-Wilshire district in 1997 at the age of 24. No arrests have ever been made in the case.

But Sanders called the amount of evidence in the case "massive"; he declared the LAPD's handling of the entire investigation into his death a "colossal mess."

Although Voletta Wallace declined to comment during the press conference, she is very much the driving force behind a wrongful death lawsuit filed against the LAPD three years ago, which begins in earnest Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.

The elder Wallace seeks to use the trial to answer the question of why one of the police department's own officers came under suspicion. Per her suit, a rogue former officer named David Mack, acting on orders from rival Marion "Suge" Knight, hired an old college roommate, Amir Muhammad, to gun down Biggie as payback for the Las Vegas drive-by slaying of Tupac Shakur seven months earlier.

Despite a similar theory floated by the Los Angeles Times three years ago, no evidence has ever been found to link Biggie with Tupac's death.

One key witness, a police informant identified only as "Psycho Mike" who initially fingered Muhammad as the hit man, admitted in a recent deposition that he was "lifelong paranoid schizophrenic" and based his account on "hearsay." The FBI, which had been probing a similar line of reasoning in its probe of the murder, threw in the towel on its 18-month investigation in January, concluding the bureau didn't have enough evidence to pursue the case. Last week, Mack and Muhammad were dropped as defendants in the civil case.

Meanwhile, on Monday, the Times reported that another witness had to be arrested to testify in the case. Kevin Hackie, a former FBI informant, told the newspaper he will take the stand, but with a caveat. "My memory is bad," he said in the Times. "I'm going to try answer questions to the best of my knowledge."

Sanders noted several times in his press conference that many witnesses have been afraid and/or reluctant to testify in the case.

He also handed out photocopies of a newly unsealed 1999 police warrant and affidavit. The document shows the LAPD focused initially on a "lone male suspect" driving a "dark-colored Chevy SS Impala" apparently registered to Suge Knight. The warrant focuses on the enmity between Biggie's East Coast-based label, Bad Boy, and Knight's West Coast outfit, Death Row, and possible triggermen suspects associated with Knight.

While the affidavit does not explicitly find Knight or any of his associates responsible for the shooting, it does state, "It is your affiant's opinion that this homicide was conspired and carried out in direct response to the murder of Tupac Shakur."

Voletta Wallace has so far refused to settle with the city of Los Angeles--opting instead to have the department officials publicly answer her questions in court. Sanders claims the department was scandal-ridden during the time of the Wallace shooting and referred to the lawsuit as a "civil rights matter."

"This is about a city which has had in place policies that we think contribute to this sort of activity," he said.

"It's your boy Mark AKA Bombay the Hard Way and we have some interesting things to talk about this week. So, let's get into it.
It's homecoming for 50 Cent, who will be performing live in Connecticut Friday night. Umm...never mind. Let's stop playing 50 is New York's own bad guy and man, is he putting a chokehold on the industry.

In case you haven't heard, it's official. On "106 & Park" on Thursday, 50 Cent accompanied by Tony Yayo and Olivia, were on hand to announce that G-Unit Records has inked Mobb Deep and M.O.P. Wow...big moves. You don't get much more street than the M-O-B-B and M.O.P. Definitely, some huge free agent veteran signings by 50 here. As it stands now, G-Unit has to be considered the most talented crew in the game, just by the numbers. Go crew by crew and the usual formula is a boss, a first lady and some par or decent rappers to supplement them. Well, G-Unit goes against the grain. They have 50 as a boss, the recently added Olivia, and Banks and Buck are good selling artists. Within time Hova will have the Roc going strong again, and Dipset has Cam and Juelz, but G-Unit is just doing it in a relentless fashion. What's crazier is if one peeps the whole Interscope umbrella, from Dre, Eminem and 50 all the way down, they are killing them -- when Busta and Eve are just components and not bosses, that's saying something. ...

Moving on 50 also announced that in September he will be re-releasing his Massacre album. He said the difference is he'll have a visual to go along with all 21 cuts; that's right 21 videos. He also revealed that his first single from the re-released album will be the "Out of Control Remix" with the Infamous Mobb Deep. 50 probably wants to make sure he inches closer and closer to that 11 million sold mark that Get Rich did. I don't see it happening even with the Massacre, even with the re-issued LP, but it's cool nonetheless...

Ok, so the gavel came down on Lil' Kim earlier this week. Although many insiders predicted she would do at least three years, the Queen Bee caught a break with a year and a day. The sentencing she received may be narrowed down to nine months based on good behavior. Her album drops September 13, and she is scheduled to report to prison on the 19th...

Can't get away from all the news surrounding Karrine Steffans AKA Supahead, apparently she couldn't handle the heat the other day in Hot 97's morning show and left early. If you put out a book detailing how you banged so and so rappers and those rappers have wives and families, damn sure you're going to get flack for it. Come on now...

Dipset general, Cam'ron, was arrested early this morning in Harlem for driving his blue Lamborghini with a suspended license. Cam got a blue Lamborghini!? Hmm...that's why he put the pink Range Rover on eBay...

A mistrial was declared in the Biggie trial; what a shame. Ms. Wallace needs a definitive answer to have peace of mind and the system isn't allowing that to happen...

Murder Mase is back!? Sounds like it on a cut called, "Murder's Back," where he subliminally goes at Jim Jones over Ying Yang's Whisper song, right at the part where they chant, "Beat the p---y up, beat the p---y up." He also goes on to say he's the most controversial since Tupac and how he doesn't take nights off like Roy Jones. Ohhk, people don't stomach a complete 180 very well man and that's what Mase is doing here...

Grafh and Papoose should be household names by now...

Sean Paul's new single, "We Be Burnin'," is crazy. I haven't forgot what girls were doing anytime they heard "Like Glue" in the clubs. Imagine what they'll do now...

And my time is up...

Good Thoughts, Good Words, Good Deeds...Peace."

Picked up that new Royce 5'9 album "Independant's Day" yesterday. Lyrically Royce is a monster, but average production(there are a few decent beats on here though) and WACK guest appearances(minus my boy Cee-Lo) keep this album from being anything more than average.

Tupac of course (those that don't know, he was a roadie for Digital underground for about 3 years, then became a background dancer, then one of their rappers, then the rest is history....)

E-40 is the funniest rapper in history, Too Short is a close 2nd beeeeooootch...and for those that don't know, R.I.P. to Andre Hicks aka Mac Dre, the greatest underground legend in rap history....

and from the SacTown, Rick Rock is maybe the best beat producer on the planet right now....

Eminem to make final bow as solo artist-report Fri Jul 15,11:57 AM ET

DETROIT (Reuters) - Rap superstar Eminem plans to make his last solo performance in Ireland in September, the Detroit Free Press, his hometown newspaper, said on Friday.

Citing sources close to the 33-year-old rapper, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, the daily also said his current album "Encore" would probably be his last as he moves to full-time work as a record producer.

The final solo appearance of Mathers, the best-selling hip-hop artist ever, would be at a concert in Dublin, Ireland, on Sept. 17, the Free Press said.

The newspaper quoted his manager, Paul Rosenberg, as saying no official decision had been made about the future of the Grammy and Oscar-winning artist who has recorded three top-10 albums.

But Rosenberg said Mathers' current multi-platinum album was "certainly the cap on this part of his career."

Mathers' spokesman at Interscope Records in Los Angeles could not immediately be reached for comment.

The Free Press said the rapper, who has sold more than $1 billion worth of records, has grown weary of the media spotlight and may be musically spent.

"Marshall feels he's said everything he can say as Eminem," one insider was quoted as saying. "The idea that he intended this ("Encore") to be his last record is something that everyone on the inside circle has known for a while."

Another source said "Encore," which was released last year, had been an especially difficult record for the artist to make. "Marshall really struggles to write for himself now, to speak through the voice of Eminem," the source said.

"He knows as well as anybody that there comes a point where you risk beating this thing to death."

The cover shot on "Encore" shows Mathers taking a bow, and its closing song is entitled "Curtains Down."

In the album's liner notes, and in his current concert tour, Mathers has also played up the figurative death of Eminem.

"This is how you go out with a bang, baby," Mathers says in one video," after pulling the trigger of a pistol that misfires on himself.

SAY WHAT? He's the only rapper that could release the song Ass Like That and it become a hit. He knew he was dying off. His latest album has sold the least out of all his albums.

Also, as to his "producing" he tells someone who actually knows how to play instruments what he wants the beat to be like. Is that really producing a beat?

Lil' Flip, TI, Common are probably the most overhyped. Common after featuring Kanye on all but two tracks has only 350,000 copies sold. Thats not good and I bet his record company is pissed for paying all the money for Kanye.

Someone should tell Common to make good music and not necessarily go with whats hot (cheesey love songs then the Neptunes now Kanye).

It's impossible for Common to be overhyped. His latest album "Be" is overhyped, although it is a good album, just not the classic that everyone is painting it to be. Before anyone asks, it's impossible for Common to be overhyped due to these albums:

Can I Borrow A Dollar

Ressurrection

One Day It'll All Make Sense

Like Water For Chocolate

I think that Electric Circus was criticized too much, it's decent, not too great, but not bad either.

Kanye's a real good producer. But his attitude brings him down. For someone so arrogant, why is he sampling on EVERY song he PRODUCES? I wouldnt even use the word produce, instead "steals". Through the Wire and Diamonds are exact replicas of the original.

Greatest hip hop song, Troy by Pete Rock and CL Smooth. DOWNLOAD THAT!

An album doesnt have to go gold for a song to be a hit/classic. It's not about sales.

So in order for someone to have hits they have to produce gold and platinum albums? Hip hop is watered down by a lot of groups and artists who put out gold/plats all of the time, but that doesn't mean their music is better.

When They Reminisce Over You is a great song, and it could be argued as the greatest sure...but it's all preference. You seem to have an idea of Common already carved out in your head though so what's the point of arguing.

I Used To Love H.E.R. - Beat is silk...one of the smoothest ever, greatest story ever told on a track, killer connection between music and women. Common's one of the greatest to ever do it and that track is him at his peak. I also believe that was the greatest hip hop album ever put out (Resurrection)...along with P.E. It Takes a Nation...

CREATIVE???? Kanye sampled every song he produced on that album (all but two songs on the album). I would not call sampling/stealing songs creative.

They always call Common the socially conscious rapper. I think not. I think Dead Prez is more politcal/conscious that Common any day of the weak.

Good production doesnt equal good songs in my book. Have you heard the song Pitch Black? An excellent DJ Premier beat. But the rapping flat out sucks. I would download it.

XXL and The Source are both garbage, the difference is that The Source, aside from their Eminem beef, focus on politics and what goes on in America from a hip hop and nationwide point of view. XXL is trash, they give just about every crunk album a "XL", their second highest possible rating. If I've gotta read bull****, I'd rather read the one that stinks the least.

Common's real issues consist of "wondering if god is a her". Yeah, what the fvck. The catch is that Common's trying to sell by going to the right producers (neptunes now Kanye) and he STILL can't sell. SOHH.com says hes just at 350,000 copies.

Common just might have to write a good song. Socially conscious songs can do well, Nas' "One Mic" was probably his biggest hit recently and it talked about "real issues." It can be done, but not by someone without charisma like Common (XXL said he had no charisma too).
