I have flat feet and they often times give me shin splints, id say once every 3-4 months and they last as long as a week without training. i got those dr. schols arch supports but i havnt put them in yet, will this prevent it, or is it a hereditary omen of suffering  also i have shin splints now, is there anything beside rest that will help them go away faster, cuz i wanna get back in the gym. thanks

Are the shin splints on the inside of your shin? If yes, then insoles should definitely help prevent shin splints from breaking out. The reason for this is that the Soleus muscle, which is the one affected by this on the inside of the shin, gets stretched out when you have flat feet or shoes with no arch support. The arch supports prevents the muscle from getting stretched, and thereby prevents tears of the muscle along the shin.

Heck, if you can afford it, look into getting some custom orthotics made for your feet. The doctor either makes plaster casts of your feet or there is now a computer program that scans your foot while you walk on a mat.
They're about $300 for good quality ones but they did wonders for me, as I have relatively flat feet and an old achilles tendon injury that bugged me from time to time.

Nothing but symptom masking. Won't make it actually go away, and it definitely won't do anything about the REASON WHY he gets shin splints. But hey, once you got it, it can't hurt to do that on the side. Just don't think it's anywhere close to an actual cure...
