I always like to root for an underdog, and as far as Boxing Scene goes, there's no greater underdog than The Pretender. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a member as villified as this guy in the whole time I've been here.

A lot of it seems to be down to the fact that what he's saying is perceived as being tongue-in-cheek, or satirical. Possibly it is. But if you look at the guy's posts, he actually has a lot of valid points to make, and intelligent things to say. All too often people will call him up on Ruiz when it's not even germain to the topic, and then berate him for responding. It's like "Talk about Ruiz... screw you, you talked about Ruiz."

There's also the amusing factor that people assume he has to be a member here under a pseudonym. Okay, his choice of favourite boxer is dubious and the username seems to point at this, but as the owner of this forum has already pointed out, he's got a Unique ISP from Florida. As the person most widely accused (before today) of being The Pretender, short of having a teleport booth or extremely long arms, there's no way this Limey fits the bill.

But why does The Pretender have to be "one of us"? Why can't he be a leg puller from outside the forum (or even someone who believes in his views?) It's like some people have so little imagination they can't see outside of distorted "facts", and the first people to get blamed are people who have shown a sense of humour. The concept that so few people actually have a sense of humour in order to be accused says less about TP than it does about how many people here take themselves so seriously.

Don't get me wrong - there's some top geezers here who are wonderfully down to Earth... The Greatest, Kimmy, Evil, Jack.... the list goes on. But often you can imagine a Trainspotting sketch with Begbie going "Some cunt's cracked a joke. No one's leaving till we find ooot who did it." Maybe The Pretender has helped shine a light on us all.

But it really is so sad to see so many people gang up on one member just because he professes to like a boxer most of us don't think is very good. If liking a boxer who was one dimensional and useless was criteria for a banning, then after last Saturday night everyone with the phrase "Tito" in their shame should just get out right now.

Recruits who don't abide by the regs they gave an oath to uphold don't deserve to wear the uniform.

No. Depending on his personal information file with his squadron he'd probably get an Article 15, which is basically a nice way to hold up your career and never make rank and/or have forfeiture of pay, confinement to base grounds, or extra duty.
