View Full Version : Who in your opinion was the best volume puncher of all time? The_Demon 03-04-2010, 05:48 PM Not necessarily a fighter with big one punch power, but a guy who was great at breaking down even the toughest fighters with his relentless attack DeepSleep 03-04-2010, 05:51 PM I'm basing this on stories and not film so I'm not sure how he compares to more modern fighters but Harry Greb has to be a strong candidate. Sugarj 03-04-2010, 06:12 PM Henry Armstrong. End of thread!!!!!!!!! The_Demon 03-04-2010, 06:14 PM Henry Armstrong. End of thread!!!!!!!!! thats a good pick not end of thread though, thats one opinion Sugarj 03-04-2010, 06:16 PM Ok, just for you, I'll add Julio Cesar Chavez too............. The_Demon 03-04-2010, 06:18 PM Ok, just for you, I'll add Julio Cesar Chavez too............. Just for me? strange, but ok JAB5239 03-04-2010, 06:22 PM Armstrong, Greb an JCC are all great picks. I'd add Pryor, Frazier and Dempsey to that list too. Sugarj 03-04-2010, 06:31 PM Ha ha, dont worry British fan! No special favours. A good modern example of a human windmill was Steve Collins when he faced Chris Eubank the second time. No defense or finesse, just sheer pressure and punch output. I felt that this version of Collins circa 1995 would have given peak Roy Jones the toughest fight of his career. I'd still bet on Roy but hell it would be a good fight. I just cant see Roy knocking him out, Collin's chin was something else. Roy would have to cut him to force anything like a stoppage. I think jones could potentially slow him down by working the body, but would obviously rather keep it at a distance. maybe even score 1 or 2 flash KD i dont know.but wouldnt seriously hurt collins with head punches RJJ may get a bit frustrated with the bullishness of collins especially when he was getting pushed back often its such an intriguing match-up the more i think about it Junito-Rulez 03-04-2010, 07:20 PM Miguel Cotto. Frazier is great to. until ibeabuchi-tua the thrilla in manilla held the record for most punches thrown in a heayvweight fight. KILLA RIGHT 03-04-2010, 08:36 PM Henry armstrong no doubt Holtol 03-04-2010, 10:27 PM Saw three Marciano fights on Classic fights he has to be the top volume puncher i have seen. Joe Frasier was good also. mhager91490 03-04-2010, 10:32 PM I'm not sure if he has been mentioned by I think that Marcel Cerdan should have his name thrown in the mix. I got ahold of a highlight of some of his fights throughout WW2 and the guy was really amazing. He fights the way that I imagine Harry Greb fighting, super aggressive, very physical and always throwing explosive, fast punches. He really just overhwhelmed guys with his combination fo speed and pure relentlessness and from what I've seen of him his defense is pretty damn good as well. On a sidenote there is a cool clip on the HL of him shaking hands with Max Smcheling. mickey malone 03-05-2010, 05:32 AM Sandy Saddler and Jack Kid Berg were both all out volume punchers.. |
