View Full Version : Cruiser Wt. Fight on FNF
tracylee 05-20-2005, 01:45 PM For all those that love a good cruiser wt. fight as much as I do, tonight on ESPN2 O'Neil Bell will be fighting Dale Brown for the IBF belt. I've seen Bell on many occasions and like him pretty well, but I am unfamiliar with Brown. Either way it goes, it's cool to have a decent cruiser wt. fight again since the last Mormeck-Braithwaite! (Just a little advance warning for those interested)
Anybody have any pics on who will win and why?

Good looking out Tracy, but the cruiser weight is very unfamiliar to me. What time do they start?
Bombardier 05-20-2005, 01:57 PM Cowboy Dale Brown is a Canadian so obviously they make a big deal about him up here. Problem is he's 0/3 in title fights. A couple of months ago he fought some nobody on an FNF undercard.
The idiots that run our big sports network aren't showing the fight until tomorrow afternoon, though. Why? Cause St.Steve Nash is in a playoff game tonight.
jpboxer3 05-20-2005, 01:58 PM I've seen Dale Brown fight, and he's slow and not a big puncher.Bell has devastating KO power, but does have a questionable chin.I dont think Brown has the power to threaten Bells chin so i'l go with Bell by KO in the mid rounds.
NiGe2011 05-20-2005, 01:59 PM I, like Tracy, don't know too much about Brown- but am farmiliar with Bell. He is my pick to take this one, and do it big, by a middle rounds KO.
PS- Wasn't Bell supposed to be fighting Kelvin Davis a few months ago?
tracylee 05-20-2005, 02:22 PM Good looking out Tracy, but the cruiser weight is very unfamiliar to me. What time do they start?
According to my cable guide, they start at 8 pm (EST) which is a bit earlier than usual!
tracylee 05-20-2005, 02:24 PM I, like Tracy, don't know too much about Brown- but am farmiliar with Bell. He is my pick to take this one, and do it big, by a middle rounds KO.

I think he was...but I dont know what happened  I'm going with Bell by tko in the latter rd's too!
The Troll 05-20-2005, 02:27 PM O'Neil Bell I think is WBO cruiserweight champ. I actually really like watching cruiserweight fights for the most part. It is actually one of my favorite weight classes.
Super_Lightweight 05-20-2005, 02:28 PM My uncle, Tommy Kimmons, is reffing on ESPN tonight. I think he will be reffing that fight but I'm not sure. Should be a decent fight.
tracylee 05-20-2005, 02:31 PM My uncle, Tommy Kimmons, is reffing on ESPN tonight. I think he will be reffing that fight but I'm not sure. Should be a decent fight.
Cool, I'll remember that and keep an eye out for him!
SacTown1 05-20-2005, 04:14 PM O'Neil Bell I think is WBO cruiserweight champ. I actually really like watching cruiserweight fights for the most part. It is actually one of my favorite weight classes.
Bell has the USBA title, I think Carl Thompson is still WBO champ...and I agree that cruiserweight ahs become a muc hbetter division in the past few years with Braithwaite, Mormeck, and Bell all becoming world-class competitors.....
thank GOD that Kelvin Davis got stripped, that guy was a total joke and I hope he remains bankrupt
Natty Dread 05-20-2005, 04:29 PM PS- Wasn't Bell supposed to be fighting Kelvin Davis a few months ago?
Bell TKO Davis 11th round in 2003
left hook
The Fix 05-20-2005, 05:21 PM dale brown is a good boxer but he lacks power and gets hit too often, i say he is KO'd in the mid to late rounds

Lol, I love that. They look like theyre gonna tear each others head off! :D They can feel free to do just that, in the ring!
sisforshaq 05-20-2005, 07:25 PM Both are medicore fighters. Both will be owned by future cursierweight champion Bobby Gunn. From Canada, beat Dale Brown in Amatures, O Neil was sheculed to fight him and backed out after the weigh in. Just gona watch and wait to see who gets KO'd by Gunn.
Next Fight for Gunn, June 2nd againest Jeff Holcomb (Nashville, TN)

Never heard of him...guess I'll settle for little ole Bell v. Brown
sisforshaq 05-20-2005, 07:29 PM You Will. If he wins this tune up fight, he fights Johnny Nelson for WBO title
tracylee 05-20-2005, 07:30 PM You Will. If he wins this tune up fight, he fights Johnny Nelson for WBO title
Alright...Nelson I have heard of, and the cruisers need all the good fighters it can get!
marvdave 05-20-2005, 07:33 PM I love Cruiserweight fights. Glad to see exposure on ESPN. Unfortunately, I will miss it. I'll expect a full report on this thread later
trinidadpr87 05-20-2005, 07:38 PM How can Gunn be the mandatory for Nelson's WBO title? He's only 2-0 according to boxrec.com
The Pretender 05-20-2005, 08:12 PM Hey this fight looking decent so far.
oldgringo 05-20-2005, 08:19 PM Reese is a good test for this Miranda kid. What'd they say? He's 21-0 with like 14 first round KO's or something? Reese steps it up for FnF's. This is a good fight.
The Pretender 05-20-2005, 08:24 PM Both kind of slow and sloppy but at least an equal match.
The Pretender 05-20-2005, 08:29 PM Yo which one is which. Both have same shorts on....which one Reese? The lighter skinned guy?
oldgringo 05-20-2005, 08:32 PM Yo which one is which. Both have same shorts on....which one Reese? The lighter skinned guy?
Reese is the lighter skinned older guy.
The Pretender 05-20-2005, 08:34 PM Reese is the lighter skinned older guy.
Thx I hope Reese wins but not looking good. The younger dude sloppy and ****y.
The Pretender 05-20-2005, 08:44 PM Hey this Reece dude a journeyman and took Miranda to 10. Isnt Miranda a title holder or is this an undercard?
Martin (Top Knowledge) 05-20-2005, 08:46 PM Hey this Reece dude a journeyman and took Miranda to 10. Isnt Miranda a title holder or is this an undercard?
Kiddo... give it up... We all got your picture too... So we'll hang it up as a warning to others!... LOL!...
The Pretender 05-20-2005, 08:55 PM Who won? I missed it.
The Pretender 05-20-2005, 09:00 PM Hey this middleweight bout is pretty good.
The Pretender 05-20-2005, 09:05 PM WTF they premature stop the fight. That Paredes kid is skinny as hell. Man middleweights are small. I bet they get schooled in streetfights.
The Pretender 05-20-2005, 09:13 PM Hey title fight for IBF belt, anyone watching?

Whats up Tracy, habn't talked to you in a while. How have you been?
The Pretender 05-20-2005, 09:25 PM Whats up Tracy, habn't talked to you in a while. How have you been?
Doin good, watching this title fight which is pretty good. I'm tracylee now too or havent you heard?
TyrantT316 05-20-2005, 09:28 PM wow, Dale Brown almost knocked out Bell in the 3rd round...
The Pretender 05-20-2005, 09:29 PM yeah this a good fight
Bozo_no no 05-20-2005, 09:31 PM What round is it now?
Who's winning? Any kd's?
Some updates would be greatly apreciated.
TyrantT316 05-20-2005, 09:31 PM Bell comes back the 4th round throwing the boxing stuff out the window and hurting Brown several times...
TyrantT316 05-20-2005, 09:33 PM for those not watching, it is basically Brown's over hand right vs Bell's lead right...Brown is cut over the eye from a lead right by Bell...Bell is putting on the pressure now after that third round
Bozo_no no 05-20-2005, 09:35 PM for those not watching, it is basically Brown's over hand right vs Bell's lead right...Brown is cut over the eye from a lead right by Bell...Bell is putting on the pressure now after that third round
Cheers,
Keep the info comming
The Pretender 05-20-2005, 09:39 PM Just me or are those gloves they using very small
TyrantT316 05-20-2005, 09:39 PM close fight so far with Bell having an edge...5th round just finished
TyrantT316 05-20-2005, 09:42 PM Brown is starting to outwork Bell and Bell is just walking in with wide shots...if Bell would just straighten up his right hand, he could end this...Bell throws very nice body shots, but Brown is still working him...
I don't know why more young fighters don't straighten up their right hands like guys like Pacman and Kostya
TyrantT316 05-20-2005, 09:46 PM good combo by Brown...Bell is getting sloppy and wobbly
Brown dominated round 8 and is most likely ahead on the cards...
Bozo_no no 05-20-2005, 09:48 PM Is Bell landing any fire at all?
TyrantT316 05-20-2005, 09:51 PM Brown takes 9...Bell frustrated and just reaching in...this will be a bit of an upset if Brown keeps this up
TyrantT316 05-20-2005, 09:56 PM 10th round was close, but Bell looking very tired but still in there...Brown landing the cleaner shots
TyrantT316 05-20-2005, 09:57 PM Is Bell landing any fire at all?
he is throwing a lot of decent body shots, but is too sloppy to land cleanly to the head...
The Pretender 05-20-2005, 09:59 PM No wonder no one cares about this div, these guys sloppy.
TyrantT316 05-20-2005, 10:02 PM only 20 sec left...Brown will be new champ
The Pretender 05-20-2005, 10:06 PM I thought Brown already the champ
The Troll 05-20-2005, 10:07 PM Bell fought good but Mormeck would tear him up.
The Pretender 05-20-2005, 10:07 PM See? WTF Brown got robbed of his belt
oldgringo 05-20-2005, 10:07 PM That kind of decision ruins boxing.
The Troll 05-20-2005, 10:08 PM If if was a boxer I would never sign on to fight for ESPN because they purposely televise fights where there is going to be BS descisons so they can push their federal boxing commission propaganda.
The Pretender 05-20-2005, 10:08 PM Everyone observing saying Brown won, Shane Moseley says Brown should have won
vB Martin 05-20-2005, 10:09 PM ok, Brown got robbed. If it had been close, I could have seen it because there were some close rounds that could have gone either way.
What a ****ing horrible decision.
vB Martin 05-20-2005, 10:10 PM If if was a boxer I would never sign on to fight for ESPN because they purposely televise fights where there is going to be BS descisons so they can push their federal boxing commission propaganda.
yes, because they always know when there are going to be BS decisions. That's why I always call Tessitore before I make any bets...
The Pretender 05-20-2005, 10:10 PM Bell landed like 3 punches upstairs the whole fight.
The Troll 05-20-2005, 10:11 PM yes, because they always know when there are going to be BS decisions. That's why I always call Tessitore before I make any bets...
I dont ever seen such blatant robberies except on ESPN. And they spend half their time expousing how great a Federal boxing commission would be. And slagging off all state commissions. ESPN probably picks who the judges are.
vB Martin 05-20-2005, 10:12 PM Bell looks pissed that they said he lost the fight.
The Pretender 05-20-2005, 10:13 PM Bell looks pissed that they said he lost the fight.
lol that was funny
Bozo_no no 05-20-2005, 10:13 PM How did Brown react when the dec was read?

That's because they tend to get the "bottom of the barrel" fights that no one else is interested in broadcasting. A lot of times they are the most entertaining fights, though, because these guys want to be stars.
I do agree that we need some sort of centralized ranking body. The alphabet soup commissions we have now are rife with corruption and favoritism. It's sad when the most accurate ranking system belongs to a magazine, not a commission.
I would suggest that we all chip in, buy some belts and start the FBC (Fan's Boxing Council) and take over the world, but we would have problems in that Pac and the Klits would always be ranked #1;)
Super_Lightweight 05-20-2005, 10:29 PM Did yall see my uncle? He was reffin the Sam Reese fight (the opening bout). He coulda kicked both those dudes' asses who were fightin'...lol.
(He was 350-9 in the amatuers)
What ****ing Bull****!!! Bell Clearly Lost, I Can't Believe This ****, Brown Should Get The Big Fights Next, Unless Bell Gives Him The Rematch And Beats Him With Out Any Controversy. Even If He Does Win In A Rematch He Will Always Have That One Fight Against Brown Looking Bad On His Record.
The Pretender 05-20-2005, 10:41 PM I would suggest that we all chip in, buy some belts and start the FBC (Fan's Boxing Council) and take over the world, but we would have problems in that Pac and the Klits would always be ranked #1;)
No way then it'd be biased against Ruiz.
vB Martin 05-20-2005, 11:07 PM biased against Ruiz.
There's a laughable phrase if ever I'ver heard one.
tracylee 05-21-2005, 01:29 PM Whats up Tracy, habn't talked to you in a while. How have you been?
Not much man..still in a state of shock at the flat out robbery I witnessed last night! That was an outrageous call on the 'judges' part, and they should be ashamed. Not that mine matters much, I scored it like this:
Brown won rd's: 1,2,3,7,8,9,11 &12 (the 3rd could have been a 10-8)
Bell got the other 4 rds on my card, with a score of 116-112, Brown.
What a joke~ I dont know whats more shocking..them giving him the nod, it being unaminous (check spell) or the wide margin of the win!
and it wouldnt have been quite so bad if Brown didnt look like he totally expected it when they read the decision, and then the poor guy critized HIMSELF for the things he didnt do during the fight..a fight he clearly won! Most other fighters would have been raising hell, but he kept saying that he should have done this and that...unbelievable! Poor Dale Brown got robbed, plain and simple. The fight wasnt even close. I was rooting for Bell, and kept yelling at him to establish his jab and come in behind it, and to straighten his punches (he didnt listen to me!) He totally blew that fight and has to know it!
Truth 05-21-2005, 01:35 PM Tracy, was Teddy Atlas going insane after the decision. LOL :D
tracylee 05-21-2005, 01:47 PM Tracy, was Teddy Atlas going insane after the decision. LOL :D
Actually Teddy wasnt there..Kevin Kelly filled in for him cause he was gone to celebrate his daughters graduation (or so they said)..but everybody else there was unhappy about it, and Joe and Kevin both told O'Neil that they thought he lost, and he didnt look to pleased with their opinions!

yeah, Brown knew he lost the fight, so why is everyone else defending the guy? He knew he didn't do enough, the judges knew, I knew, however the only people who don't get it are Joe Tessitore, Kevin Kelley, and about 2 dozen morons on this site...115-113 Bell was the PERFECT scorecard, Brown took rounds 3, 10, 11, and 12, but he did jack squat in the other rounds, he got cut in round 4, he was gasping for air from round 2 on....BELL WON

I just disagree..that does not make me or anyone else a moron. It was a blatant robbery, PERIOD! He outboxed Bell 8 out of 12 rds..yes, Bell thru the better power punches, but they seldom landed cause he refused to go in behind his jab. I dont know how you scored it a win for Bell, but I'll refrain from considering you a 'moron' for doing it.

I was just trying to debate with you cause youre about the only one that saw the fight that way...my bad, no problem.

it's all gravy tracylee, in fact I really do like 99% of your posts, this was just one topice where I felt that the announce team showed a lot of bias towards one fighter and that the fans followed their lead, no big deal, but definitely worth arguing about :)
