Re hhascup's "Flyweight to Heavyweight" thread earlier today, I thought these somewhat related questions might be fun to examine.

1.
During his career, Sugar Ray Robinson met DIFFERENT world champions, who all later became HOFers (IBHOF only!), from 5 of boxing's original 8 weight classes (fly, bantam, feather, light, welter, middle, light-heavy and heavyweight):

Light-heavy: Joey Maxim
Middle: Jake LaMotta (or several others!)
Welter: Fritzie Zivic (or Gavilan, Basilio)
Light: Sammy Angott
Feather: Henry Armstrong

So, at least in this respect, we could call Robinson a "5-division man". This is not a record, though... as there have been at least two "6-division men". Can you name them? (and remember: the title holders they met from each of the 6 original divisions must all be HOFers).

Jimmy McLarnin (hhascup)
Joe Grim (hhascup)

2.
Same as above... but now name boxing's "5-division men", other than SRR.
(At least 6 more men in this category - plus the ones I have missed!)

Here hhascup has come up with:
Henry Armstrong
Sam Langford
Del Flanagan
Lew Massey
Fritzie Zivic
Frank Covelli

Very impressive... as I would have expected!

The question says DIFFERENT HOF-champs from each division... which means, that Robinson, Armstrong and Ross can each only be "used" in one division. So Quarles, Casanova and Battalino don't quite make the cut, as they are only "4-division men" in this respect.

But to sum up, you have:

6-division men:
Jimmy McLarnin

5-division men:
Henry Armstrong
Sam Langford
Del Flanagan
Lew Massey
Fritzie Zivic
Frank Covelli

... so all we need now, is to identify the missing 6-division man!

Yep, that was the man, we were looking for - well done!
