Does anyone have any tips on burning fat? its ridiculous. I have for the most part been in good shape...and toned. But lately, I have been increasing my intake for weight lifting. I might have increased it too high...and now I put on some fat. How in the hell do I get it off? What kind of diet do you think works best to do this?

I have routines that I always used...but they dont seem to work very well anymore. Should I just run my ass off....and eat fruits and vegetables? Avoid lifting heavily?

Lean white meats and fruits and vegetables

Are you eating bread? If so is it enriched? That could be your problem.

If you havent been dieting much it will take a few workouts before you start shedding.

Aerobic activity burns more fat than running.

there is nothing wrong with lifting becasue it burns calories and hence fat, but cut back on your calorie intake, drink lots of water and cardio.

What kinds of aerobic activity? isint running aerobic?

and yeah....ive been eating too much bread after workouts. I got to the point where I was consuming alot of calories....because I felt like I was starving after lifting.

Heavy bag and jump rope does more fat burning for me, also interval training and sprints.

I like to sprint about 10 times and as I start off hold weights and when I reach my maximum speed drop them....Sprinting will work it off faster than long distance.

Bread isnt a bad thing but if it is consumed to much (I limit myself to 2-3 pieces a day) Also nothing enriched, I like Sara Lee whole grain wheat bread (also comes in honey flavored) and is only 35 calories a slice.

Keep your bread in moderation and stay away from enriched.

Cut back on your calories, if you want to build muscle eat nothing but WHITE meat like chicken breast. Packed with 30 grams of protein and under 200 calories.

Also egg whites are an excellent source.

Cut back on your calories and fats and eat more foods that are dense and more filling.

Egg whites (prepared without oil) is the best and quick and easy. Plus only 17 and 3 grams of protein per white.

Thanks spinx. You know...what I think I was doing wrong...was eating way too much red meat. Basically that is all I would eat after workouts, and I think too many fried foods as well. I was always under the assumption that fat was ok to eat....and carbs were what I had to stay away from. I got really lean: around 12%...which I think is too lean for my size. Im 6'2 195 now....because I gained around 25 lbs. I havent checked my body fat lately, but Im sure its over 20%. Almost like the weight I gained was pure fat.

I had this misconception that I needed to increase the amount of calories I was intaking...every since I started lifting heavy weights. I suppose I will do more cardio, higher reps of lower weight, and eat lean white meat, fruits and vegetables.

maybe that will work. Ill try that non-enriched bread idea as well.

Yeah...Ill try that too. lots of water, and I suppose...no beer for me for a while.

Red meat especially if it isnt lean (98%) or higher will pack on the pounds. Carbs are your friend as long as they are natural carbs.

Cut back on the bread and red meat and see how you do.

Mr.Run, you're 6'2 195 and do heavy weights, you shouldn't have any worries.
I'm 6'0 250 and dont lift anything, and I'm a happy camper, but I'm 45 yrs. old and just let myself go in the last few years.
Do what I do, just buy bigger pants........peace.

Best way to burn fat is to exercise at about 60% of your maximum heart rate. There are methods of figuring out your max.
If your max is 200, slow running at 120-130 heartrate for 30-60 mins will burn fat rather than other energy sources.

I'm going to try to cut some weight too, but I dont think I'ma change my eating habits, just hit the Heavey bag(lately I've stop after listening to 5 songs), run(same as Heavey), do push ups(up to 30) while wearing sweat clothes, you think I can do one per day or I have to do all three? Maybe some sit-ups?

Depending on your diet Iwatch chances are you wont lose weight. Possibly a little, but just a tip if you drink any kind of carbonated beverage cut it out. A friend of mine weighed 330 pounds and over the course of 4 months just cut out pop and went down to 185. Sure he wasnt ripped or anything like that but he lost a tremendous amount of weight.

So you're trying to tell me he lost 145 pounds over the course of 4 months by cutting out pop??

Either that's a typo or you're completely full of shit.

As far as the topic, SpinksJinx mentioned cutting out the enriched bread. Excellent idea. As a matter of fact, replacing all your whites (bread, pasta, etc) with whole grain versions is the ticket. But pay attention, as some breads and pastas are listed as 'whole wheat' but aren't necessarily 'whole grain'.

You want the whole grain for the extra fiber and the fact they burn slower in your system, keeping your insulin in check.

The only way someone is losing 145 pounds in 4 months is if they're dead or lose both their legs in a tragic combine accident.

I don't care if that person was a goddamned walrus, it isn't happening.

Just kidding (kinda).

Spinks Jinx said 'he just cut out pop'. So he only cuts out pop and magically loses 145 pounds? No, no, and NO.

4 months was a typo, I graduated from high school in May of 2003 and did not see him again until December. Six months it had taken him to lose it, if you are grossly out of weight losing dropping a ton of weight isnt unrealistic. Plus you have to consider the amount that the kid was taken in before, he drank on average 2-3 2 liters a day of pop.

On the record, 145 pounds isnt unrealistic in 4 months. If you went on a serious diet and exercise losing 30 pounds a month is an easily maintainable goal. I put my g/f on my diet for a week and she dropped like 8 pounds and I had tried it with others and they dropped like crazy as well.

Well that would be unrealistic and at that weight (138) losing 10 pounds would be a pretty hard task because of your weight. This kid was over the 300 pound mark and was about 5'9. So I am sure you can get a pretty good mental picture of how that would look. He was grossly out of shape and overweight and had a diet like no other. It unrealistic for people of that size to drop a tremendous amount of weight when cleaning up there diet just a tad.

Not true. the "fat burn zone" is B...S...! While it IS true that the biggest percentage of your COMBINED ENERGY SPENDING during the workout is highest around 60% of max heartrate, you simply SPEND MUCH MORE ENERGY WHEN YOU WORK HARDER. This means that:
If you have 30 minutes to work out in, do it as hard as you can for 30 minutes, the same goes for 60 minutes. When you do this you'll burn MANY more calories. Is 50% of 150 calories better than 35% of 500?? Of course not.
Your metabolism will also have to work harder during restitution time, the harder your workouts are. This means that you will burn of more calories while resting, being at work etc.
