View Full Version : Roy Jones vs. Johnson... if he hadn't been KOed...
!! Anorak 12-01-2004, 05:05 PM ... would he have been able to have won it on points?
Probably an old issue now, but I'm still new here. I just can't understand what Roy was thinking... or more to the point, what his cornermen were thinking, not coming down hard on him.
jack_the_rippuh 12-01-2004, 05:15 PM He was being outdone from the beginning. I still have no idea as to why his corner was so calm with him. Alot of people say it's because he runs his own stuff, and the corner and trainer is just there for show.
Novirasputin 12-01-2004, 05:23 PM he would have still lost i think
i dont even think the punches that put him down were that hard.

How at Mike Tyson?
mic573 12-01-2004, 05:25 PM Jones was never in the fight so I think he would of still lost but I'm glad it ended with a knockout because with judges these days you are not always sure.
aaalex 12-01-2004, 05:26 PM Probably he was going to begin active actions in last two roundes...?
aaalex 12-01-2004, 05:32 PM If to be fair, that, really, the most probable judges would give a victory to Roy. But it would be not correct, though I and respect him, as the boxer...
n14061981 12-02-2004, 10:38 AM IMO johnson was leading big
jack_the_rippuh 12-02-2004, 10:42 AM How at Mike Tyson?
What do you mean?
What?
Mikie 12-02-2004, 11:05 AM He probably needed a KO. He was down 4-5 points on every scorecard at the time of the stoppage.
!! Anorak 12-02-2004, 11:31 AM Do we know the final scorecards pre-stoppage?
mic573 12-02-2004, 11:39 AM I think they said Johnson was ahead on all scorecards but I think one of them was close.
!! Anorak 12-02-2004, 11:45 AM Was a win for Roy unobtainable? I've seen the fight twice and the second time around he didn't seem to ship as many as I'd thought... and Glen turned down the pace from the second round on. Still a bad, bad night for Roy, though in a sense it exonorates him I thought. Tarver and Johnson didn't get a prime Roy. I'd love to see him come back and defeat the whole division, but I don't suppose it'll ever happen.
Mr. Untouchable 12-02-2004, 11:52 AM He was being outdone from the beginning. I still have no idea as to why his corner was so calm with him. Alot of people say it's because he runs his own stuff, and the corner and trainer is just there for show.Yeah roy was looking all in the crowd and stuff, it seems like he is the boss in his corner, but anyway Roy was going to lose by a lopsided UD anyway. He didn't come to fight. I think that he left everything in the ring the night he fought Ruiz...
jpboxer3 12-02-2004, 11:59 AM Johnson clearly won 7 out of the 9rds fought. The only reason the judges would have had it a little closer was because it was ROY JONES JR fighting.
jack_the_rippuh 12-02-2004, 12:03 PM Yeah roy was looking all in the crowd and stuff, it seems like he is the boss in his corner, but anyway Roy was going to lose by a lopsided UD anyway. He didn't come to fight. I think that he left everything in the ring the night he fought Ruiz...
I don't think he would have lost by as big as a margin on the judges cards as he should've...simply because judges always make fights closer than they really are..
!! Anorak 12-02-2004, 01:06 PM Yeah, if Roy has a history of getting verdicts (Tarver I) then Glen certainly has a history of not getting them. I had Roy only winning about two rounds too, though watching it a second time I could see how he could have stolen more rounds, with Glen missing quite a lot more than it at first appeared...
Mikie 12-02-2004, 02:14 PM According to boxrec.com, RJJ was down by four on one judges scorecard and two on the other. I guess they thought it was a closer fight than everyone had thought initially!
aaalex 12-02-2004, 06:06 PM What to Roy occured?
He should understand, that it was impossible to lose that fight!
It was impossible to lose any round of that fight!
