Big L ’98 Freestyle Lyrics

One-two, one-two
Kinda tired..
Big l, 'bout ta.. get into some ****
Aight check it out

Yo, **** all the glamours and glitz, I plan to get rich
I'm from new york and never was a fan of the knicks
And I'm all about expandin my chips
You mad cause I was in the van with your *****
With both hands on her tits
Corleone hold the throne, that you know in your heart
I got style, plus the way that I be flowin is sharp
A while back I used to hustle, sellin blow in the park
Countin g stacks and rockin ice that glow in the dark
Forever - hottie huntin, trigger temper I'm quick to body somethin
You lookin at me like I'm probably frontin
I **** around and throw, three in your chest and flee to my rest
I'm, older and smarter this is me at my best
I stopped hangin around y'all, cause *****z like you
Be prayin on my downfall, hopin I flop
Hopin I stop, you probably even hope I get locked
Or be on the street corner with a pipe, smokin the rock
I got more riches than you, **** more *****es than you
Only thing I haven't got is more, stitches than you
****in punk, you ain't a +leader+ what? nobody +follow-ed+ you
You was never ****, your mother shoulda swallowed you
(mmmm.. whoo!) you on some tagalong flunkie yes man ****
Do me a favor, please get off the next man dick
And if you think I can't **** with whoever, put your money up
Put your jewels up, no **** it put your honey up
Put your raggedy house up *****, or shut your mouth up
Before I buck lead, and make a lot of blood shed
Turn your tux red, I'm far from broke, got enough bread
And mad hoes, ask beavis I get nuttin butt-head
{*laughter*} my game is, vicious and cool
****in chicks is a rule
If my girl think I'm loyal then that ***** is a fool
How come, you can listen to my first album
And tell where a lot of *****z got they whole style from?
(yeah!) so what you actin for?
You ain't half as raw, you need to practice more
Somebody tell this ***** sum'un, 'fore I crack his jaw
You runnin with boys, I'm runnin with men
I'ma be rippin the mics until I'm a hundred and ten
Have y'all *****z like, 'damnit this ***** done done it again'
I throw slugs at idi-ots, no love for city cops
I sport a pretty watch, eight-hundred and fifty rocks
I'm makin wonderful figures
I don't **** with none of you *****z
I might pull out this gun on your *****z
And rob every last one of you *****z

[bobbito] yeahhh! (what? )
[big l] I'm tired
[bobbito] for somebody tired, that wasn't, that wasn't too bad!

[B] Lifestylez Ov Da Poor & Dangerous Lyrics

(Everybody everywhere is scratching for what they can get
Did you think anybody in this town is any different?
They don't give a damn who gets killed
Just as long as "the dice keep rollin
The hoes keep hoein
And the money keeps flowin")

My name is L, and I'm from a part of town where clowns
Get beat down and all you hear is gunshot sounds
On 139 and Lennox Ave. there's a big park
And if you're soft, don't go through it when it gets dark
Cause at nighttime *****s try to tax
They're sneakier than alley cats
That's why I carry gats
Yo, I'm a mutha****in fugitive
Buckwild and foul is the lifestyle that I choose to live
Because to me it's all about a buck
I used to have a partner in crime by the name of Chuck
We stormed the city, shootin **** up like Frank Nitti
We robbed kids and split the dough 50/50
One day we stuck a dice game on the ave. and split the cash
Then I murdered his ass and took his half
Because I'm all about ends and skins
When you got dough, you don't need no mutha****in friends
If I catch you on a late night, black, you're gettin stuck, jack
My moms told me to get a job, **** that
Aiyo, picture me gettin a job
Takin orders from Bob, sellin corn on the cob
Yo, how the hell I'ma make ends meet
Makin about 120 dollars a week?
Man, I rather do another hit
I want clean clothes, mean hoes, and all that other ****
Yo, I admit, I'm a sucker
A low down, dirty, sneaky, double-crossin connivin mutha****a
Breakin in cribs with a crow-bar
I wasn't 'poor', I was po', I couldn't afford the 'o-r'
I used to wait until it gets dark
And tell a ***** to strip, I wanna see some birthmarks
Like a ninja, dressed in black with a ski mask
I take all the funds, then I run down the street fast
I vicked this ***** named Eugene
Took his brand new ring
Cause stickin up's a everyday routine
Once I was crusin in a beat-up ride
Saw this ***** named Clyde
And snuck up on him from the blind side
I told him, "Give up the dough, before you get smoked
Oh you're broke? ( *shots* ) now you're dead broke"
The Big L was cold crazy
A top-notch crook snatchin pocket books from old ladies
I don't care, I'll do anything to get a buck
Even rob a Miller truck, cause I don't give a ****
Some say I'm ruthless, some say I'm grim
Once a brother done broke into my house and I robbed him
Plenty and many brains I bust
Cause I was livin the lifestyle of the poor and dangerous

Word
All of us from Harlem
139
That's livin the lifestyle of the poor & dangerous
Uknowmsayin?
This goes out
To my brothers
Big Lee and Don Ice
Reggie Reg, T.C., Todd, Lou, Black Tone
Whitey, Ty Speeder, Ru Dog, Herb McGruff
E-Jet, G Love, Doc Ring, Slice and Rich Dice
I can't forget the 1-4-0
Lennox Ave., troop
And I gotta say rest in peace to Mate the Skate, Dog
And my man Kerry
Peace

(Now what kinda life is that for a child?
Now what kinda life is that for a child?
Now what kinda life is that for a ****in child?
Word to mother
**** all that stupid ****
Controversial, not commercial, *****)

Thread Starter, have you heard of GZA?

Big L was a great lyricist no doubt, but was more a a freestyle/punchline emcee.

Rappers like Nas and GZA have more creativity.....and because of Big L's death, he sadly didn't have as much material to make such a statement.

Nas ain't got **** on L, i made a thread about that too......honestly the only thing that brings L down is he doesn't have enough material to make a serious claim to be the greatest......Nas has a stronger case to be greater because he has an extensive body of work but L was better.........****, Tupac is better and greater than Nas

I disagree, man. Big L was much more than a punchline rapper. It just happens to be that his style involved a lot of comedy and black humor that he implemented punchlines on many of his songs. Also, you have to consider Big L's punchlines when you are talking about creativity. That in itself is a sign of his incredible creativity. Also, look at his conceptual tracks like Ebonics, Devil's Son and Clinic(should have worn a rubber) and the imagery and storytelling that he displayed on songs like How will I make it and Casualties of a Dice Game.

When you take those things into consideration, it's clear that he was one of the most creative rappers ever.

There are other great lyricist out there, but you can easily make a case for Big L being the greatest lyricist out there.

Some Big L songs you may not have heard before:

GZA, Nas, Rakim, KRS-One, Talib Kweli, Ghostface, Raekwon...all better than Big L by a country mile.

Nas' 9 track Illmatic is better than any album L put out. Nas inspired *****s, even L (which is why he's on the Devil's Son hook). And he's shown his versatility throughout his career, but even if he stopped at Illmatic and It Was Written, he'd still be rated higher than L.

You post 2 freestyles to show why you think Big L is the best lyricist ever. Nas has countless exceptional verses to go against L's material, whether it be metaphors, imagery, creativity, conceptualization, etc. Nas is the best storyteller to touch a mic, so I'm not even touching that.

We can line for line or verse for verse, if you want to go there.

I own Lifestyles of da Poor..., The Big Picture and the Diggin In The Crates album he featured on. I have enough of his material, and yes i'm not doubting his creativity or skill, but there's no way he compares with Nas or GZA on a lyrical level.

How's there no way? What has GZA and Nas done that is much more creative than what L did? L had witty, creative punchlines for days plus he had concept tracks like Devil's Son and Ebonics. Storytelling wise, it doesn't get much better than Casualties of a Dice game. I think what you're mistaking is Big L's style. You are discounting him because of his style. It's like saying that someone who works in comedy or horror isn't as great of a director as a counterpart who puts out drama movies. If you look deeper you may see that he had his own genius lyrically.

Most don't have them at the level of Big L. Also, Big L's punchlines weren't all of a battle nature. He had punchlines about women, crimes, just random stuff that he implemented in his songs.

ANIMOSITY
02-27-2010, 09:51 AM
well you haven't seen enough battle rappers then
what seperated big l from them was his flow
which allowed him to succesfully transfer from battling to song
and he was good lyrically but come on, no where near nas
you can feel L sorta fallin off on the big picture
kane destroys his verse in the song platinum plus

the traveler

I've seen enough battle raps to know that Big L was ahead of his time when it came to punchlines. Think about it. He's perhaps one of the few mcees in history who created a huge buzz from fans and mcees themselves mostly based on his punchlines. The Beavis line itself is one of the most receited punchlines in memory.

You're acting like his punchline ability was commonplace amongst average battle rappers, and that simply isn't the case. I disagree that it was his flow that set him apart, I think his punchlines were simply so amazing at the time. Everyone I talk to about Big L, they don't mention his flow first, they mention his punchlines first.

I think Big L had the better verse than Kane, but then again, your argument is a song that a rapper that's been in the game for decades jumped on, well after when Big L layed down his verse? That's a weak point.

I don't know how you can say he fell off on the Big Picture, when, for one, half the album was copy and paste and not full songs that he completed, and for two, it is the album that gave him his biggest buzz.

flow, metaphors and especially wordplay are all criteria's you use to compare verses, you say you watch rap battles but obviously you don't

alot of peeps today just kill it with flow and generic meta's, but if your comparing a verse you gotta includde the flow(delivery), wordplay and meta's

and it aint even close in platinum plus, kane destory's L

You obviously don't get it. It's not a mathematical equation. Saying that flow, metaphor and wordplay is what you have to include when comparing verses is an opinion. So, even the categories you base your opinion on are formed from opinions. Some people may feel that metaphors aren't as big of a factor so they wont include it as much. Who are you to say what is right when it's all based on opinion.

It's like you're trying to boast up your own opinion and bully it onto others. It's stupid and shows how big headed and stupid you are.

Also, you put delivery in quotation marks next to flow. Do you even understand that those are two completely different things?

You're dumb.

You're dumb.

So are quotation marks and parenthesis.

:nana:

But yeah, I agree that there's no standard equation that everyone uses in order to judge a verse.

But there is a general consensus, at least there should be on certain things, for example saying Soulja Boy's verse on...I dunno, any verse he's written isn't as good as AZ's verse on "Life's A *****." But I guess you could even argue the opposite.

Music is mostly opinion and I don't think there is a real right or wrong answer to who's verse was better on "Platinum Plus," because it's not like L's was horrible.

the traveler
03-01-2010, 07:54 AM
lol did I really say quotations? but you get what I mean

And, yeah, that's why I try to respect everyone's opinions because I understand that it is all relative. If someone honestly believes that Solja Boy is better than Rakim I'll give them their respect even though I think otherwise. Who am I to try to act like my opinion is better than someone elses.

I don't even think Big L is the greatest lyricist ever, but I think he's up there. Most people I've seen that don't give him props as a lyricist label him as a punchline rapper. They place him in a box wheras cats like GZA and Nas, who have a more standard lyrical style, are seen as the better more real lyricist.

It's like a horror movie losing out on oscar merit over a drama movie. You gotta look deeper than the styles and check out the genius of the work.

Though Big L was more of a shock/punchline rapper, his lyrics had an incredible amount of genius behind them.
