Versastyle 02-25-2010, 03:50 AM bout to check em out right now bro, how much do you weigh?
152lb........
hateinyaeyes32 02-25-2010, 03:55 AM 152lb........
Damn, how tall are you? That guy youre fightin in the second video looks over 6 ft... My trainers want me to cut down to 154 but im probably going for 160-165ish... But by the way, about the second fight, good punches to end the fight on, great left hands man, you got some skills for sure!

Appreciate it. Cutting weight that low depends on your height. I'm like 5'5. He was at least 5'11.
GoogleMe 02-25-2010, 04:03 AM Well done, you got great movement. I hope to see you face someone better next time, he didn't protect himself at all. You look promising :)
GoogleMe 02-25-2010, 04:03 AM But also, you did what you had to do, stop him.

Well I'm 5'11, and I weigh 190ish right now give or take a few lbs. But I cut from 220 down to 190 from October until New Years, and since then I havent really been trying to cut anymore weight, ive been just lifting and boxing, not too much running, but i plan to start cutting again after this weekend, ive just been trying to get alot more muscle, but i plan to be down to 165 by Mid-May at the latest, aiming for end of April... I want to start fighting soon man, sparring at the gym and with my friends just aint cuttin it anymore you know?

I totally agree with the whole promising thing, for some reason this dude looks like he could turn out to have a VERY successful boxing career.. The kid he fought in video number 2 looks like he could be a whole 2 weight classes up from him yet he beat him around the ring like he was a big ass rag doll!

Yep. Especially with friends, you're not too tense so you won't get a big enough workout. 165 is a good weight for your height. Lot of running and TV dinners did it for me. Just have to be half strict, being too strict is just a waste because you won't always do it.
hateinyaeyes32 02-25-2010, 04:45 AM Yep. Especially with friends, you're not too tense so you won't get a big enough workout. 165 is a good weight for your height. Very true, im not too strict at all about my dieting, actually i usually can eat pretty much anything and still cut weight, but i do have an easier time when i follow a set diet but with just a lil bit of freedom, and about them TV dinners I eat lots of Mexican and Chinese freezer foods man couldnt live without them... Just wondering, in your amateur career how many times have you knocked out or stopped a guy, and hows your record?
GoogleMe 02-25-2010, 05:10 AM How many fights have you had, and for how many years have you been boxing?
Versastyle 02-25-2010, 12:14 PM Well done, you got great movement. I hope to see you face someone better next time, he didn't protect himself at all. You look promising :)
For the final I will. He's a pot shot fighter and runner like Mayweather.
Versastyle 02-25-2010, 12:22 PM Very true, im not too strict at all about my dieting, actually i usually can eat pretty much anything and still cut weight, but i do have an easier time when i follow a set diet but with just a lil bit of freedom, and about them TV dinners I eat lots of Mexican and Chinese freezer foods man couldnt live without them... Just wondering, in your amateur career how many times have you knocked out or stopped a guy, and hows your record?
I'm 4-3 right now. The first one was a disaster. I kept slipping in my shoes, seconds one I hit the dude with a body shot and he got a 8 count, then I gave him a uppercut and dropped him and another 8 count and I still lost, even with hitting him more. I went to 165lb weight class and won my first easy, second one easy with the guy getting knocked down once and 2 8 account also. So 3 in total. Last fight I got a flashing blow and dropped to one knee and got a count but the whole time I was out pointing him. Then the last 10 seconds I got him with a left hook and hurt him bad on the ropes then the bell rang.Haha.
Then what you see now. I told myself I'm not going to let points dictate how my fight outcome is, because it hasn't been fair to me besides the first fight. So I told myself I'll take them out so it doesn't get to that point.
I think good healthy TV dinners would do ya good. You sound like you have a mesamorph body style like me, which means losing weight is cake(No pun intended):fingersx:
Versastyle 02-25-2010, 12:24 PM How many fights have you had, and for how many years have you been boxing?
I have 7 and been boxing for almost 7 years.

I see you're from san Antonio. Do you fight out of Zarzamora st. gym?
Pork Chop 02-25-2010, 12:49 PM Awesome job B!!
Can't wait to see more of your vids.
Yo if you see matt tell him pork chop says "hi".
I stopped going to that gym he was coaching at.
Got sick of some pizzy azz ***** that was going on there, those mma guys will wanna go all hard until you start hitting 'em back, then it's all "don't hit me! I ain't got a mouth piece!".
Lately I'm just busy with being a dad and doing my master's so i can get more money. Haven't had any time for any fight training.
You still at Jesse James Leija's gym?
I'll be around 35 around the time I finish my master's and I was kicking around the idea of going to a real boxing gym to train for master's/senior's division golden gloves. It's either that or go back to muay thai.
Versastyle 02-25-2010, 01:41 PM I see you're from san Antonio. Do you fight out of Zarzamora st. gym? Naw, Champion Fit Gym. It's off of Zarzamora, though.

Yeah Matt was there the first day I was fighting. He also said you didn't go there anymore also. But yeah I'm still at Jesses gym. You should do it, I don't see many senior fighters doing it, it would be some fun.
rskumm21 02-25-2010, 01:58 PM Naw, Champion Fit Gym. It's off of Zarzamora, though.
Oh o.k., I thought you might be someone else. Good **** homie, keep doing your thing. Best of luck.
THE REED™ 02-25-2010, 02:00 PM Please fight Zelenoff... what will it take...
Versastyle 02-25-2010, 02:03 PM Please fight Zelenoff... what will it take...
Ha, Dunno. Tomorrow when I fight in the final I'm going to turn it up. I'm just getting a feel out before I really impress. Maybe Charlie will like that and call me up. Entertainment and hype can mean more money for him.
THE REED™ 02-25-2010, 02:10 PM You'd have to turn pro first...
Versastyle 02-25-2010, 02:13 PM You'd have to turn pro first...
Yeah I know, my trainer said I should do this one last time before turning to get used to the setting. I'm calm as hell in and out the ring. You should see how wild those dudes are. Reminds me of Charlie.Haha.
ANIMOSITY 02-25-2010, 02:19 PM i remember your sparring vids, where nearly knock the guy over the ropes or somethin(it's all a little blurry)
GoogleMe 02-25-2010, 02:19 PM I have 7 and been boxing for almost 7 years.
That's not many fights in that many years. I've got 9 in 1½. But you look promising, and should fight better opponents, **** the record, you could fight guys with 20 fights, easily.
Pork Chop 02-25-2010, 03:22 PM Yeah Matt was there the first day I was fighting. He also said you didn't go there anymore also. But yeah I'm still at Jesses gym. You should do it, I don't see many senior fighters doing it, it would be some fun.
will do man. i think it'll be fun too. a lot of my training partners from MD all went on to get tons of experience (some guys went am boxing, others pro, still others am & pro muay thai). I always wondered when it'd be my turn, and that might be my chance.
little burned out on the muay thai situation in Texas - we usually gotta travel out of state to fight. also, don't think muay thai's got a seniors division.
still a ways off yet, but when I can JJL's gym is probably the first place I'll go check out. will probably have to cancel my gold's gym membership to afford to go though.
You think it'll be hard for me to get training time with any of the trainers?
I mean i been to a lot of gyms where unless you're one of their boys they just kinda let you do your own thing, i'd be looking to compete, so i'd hope that'd get me some consideration.
wonder if they'd consider training me as a trainer?
that's the big reason i want more fight experience is to be a trainer.
i've been assistant trainer at a bunch of gyms, but still need to get USA certified.
FalconsRB 02-25-2010, 03:58 PM I'd **** you up if you come down to 106
supRa 02-25-2010, 04:04 PM ddamnn that last vid was nice... like a lil tyson in there lol...
2 min round right?
is it me or they always have the golden gloves in sa?
Southpaw Stinger 02-25-2010, 04:14 PM I saw your dad stop Trevor Berbick back in '86.
Happy days.

They can train you as a trainer but there are some obligations to be there. Also if you show interest they'll show it in you. The MMA scene is coming up.

Vers and I played an epic two vs two basketball game against Annie and Kayjay a few years ago. While Annie and Kay would be too busy disagreeing over which position they were supposed to be playing in, I'd lift Versey onto me shoulders and he'd dunk the ball.
We won the game. Completely one sided shut-out affair.
True story.

For sure man! And by the way man good record but like you said dont let the points dictate, you never know how a judge is feeling and if they are having a bad day and they dont like the way you fight, and its close, chances are theyre gonna give the other dude the decision. So the best way to get a win is to bust someone open or stop there ass.
Southpaw Stinger 02-26-2010, 04:13 PM WHO THE **** YOU CALLING PUNK? Do you know what a punk is?
Punk is a style of music where I come from.
American_Ninja 02-26-2010, 07:01 PM Punk is a style of music where I come from.
Where I come from its an insult worth fighting over.
Here in the USA a Punk is a prisoner who gives up the ass w/o a fight.
Thats old school, so am I. You didnt use the word in the context of Music, you called me a punk.

Hey man... I'm old school too. I'm old old school, I predate the whole concept of being old school.
A friend of mine last year, some punk, came over to my house listening to some Sex Pistols songs on his ipod. He took out the earphones and offered them to me for a listen. I said to him, 'Sorry punk, but I'm old school. I like my music to be either on a record or cd and played through loudspeakers.' The punk got the message, we opened up a few beers and watched Hatton-Pacquiao.

awesome! when i'm finally in a position to get serious I'll make sure to lay it all out there.
i'm actually certified in san shou so if they want blended kickboxing into takedowns, i'm good, i just don't like the attitudes of certain guys who train at that one mma gym.
Versastyle 02-27-2010, 07:22 AM I got disquialified this morning for not making the weight, which was 152.The day I was suppose to be in the championship. I weighed 152.4. Sparring at a real gym is a totally different experience. Big time. Like for me, I can box my friends for 12 rounds 3min rounds easily. At the gym? **** is hard to do like 4 rounds.

Every time I get hit which isn't too much(Maybe 2min rounds 3 on average), I think that I might be losing so I press harder.

Bullrush 02-27-2010, 08:58 AM Its using common sense you clown. You dont make the weight, you dont fight. Stop blaming everyone else. You knew what your weight was supposed to be. You knew that they would not let you fight if you are overweight. You still come in overweight and now you ***** and complain. Some shady things going on...yeah. They are afraid that you might take over boxing because of how amazing you are. Trying to keep you down, make sure you dont have any success. They dont want you to kill all your opponents because of how beastly you are. This is how you see things. Grow the **** up man.
FalconsRB 02-27-2010, 09:09 AM I got disquialified this morning for not making the weight, which was 152.The day I was suppose to be in the championship. I weighed 152.4. I sensed some shady **** but I won't continue it online. Good fun, though! I'm trying to figure out if I want to do a few more fights amateur within' a few months then pro or straight pro right now.:boxing:
Got DQ for .4 pounds? Couldn't they wait 5 mins for you doing a rd of skipping? that's crazy!

Naw. **** happens, just gotta move on and look elsewhere. Only reason I mentioned it on here is because some were wondering about my fight.

Weight can be a *****.
I'd say have more AM fights before going into the pros. You can only get better.
JoHnNyBoXeR 02-27-2010, 03:25 PM You did good..but honestly, I thought u were gonna look better judging from some short sparring clips I've seen before. I thought u were def. an open fighter until i saqw these vids. U made som mistakes that these guys couldnt capitalize on because they were not very good. Why you only have 7 fights with 7 years training? thats a waste of time if u ask me.. I suggest you stay busy this year and try to fight 10-15 fights this year then go pro

It sounds like you really know what you're talking about. What is your record? Are you Pro or AM?
Hi-Dro 02-27-2010, 06:06 PM Good **** TS
You fight just like me or atleast we both try to imitate tyson
right?
Bullrush 02-27-2010, 06:14 PM It sounds like you really know what you're talking about. What is your record? Are you Pro or AM?
I'm 50-0 in the pros, what do you give a ****. You dont have to be a world champion in order to understand a simple rule that states if you dont make a certain weight you don't fight. A russian cab driver could tell you that.
What if they allow him to fight at 152.4. The next guy that comes in at 152.5 will use the same argument. Its gonna go on and on and at some point you have 300 pound guys fight 120 pound guys. These are the rules, everyone knows them. If you dont follow them dont expect those guys to get you out of the mess that you created by not doing what you were supposed to do.

50-0? Wow. So I guess you've fought a lot of big names by now.
Care to share? Or even better, Tell us who you really are.
There are no 50-0 fighters in the top 25 of any weight class.
Guess that makes you a troll. Troll on big shot....

VIPrice 02-28-2010, 04:56 AM nice fights. i can tell you like to model your style after Tyson. your rhythm and how you hold your hands is reminiscent of Tyson, and i saw bobbing and weaving as well.
with only 7 fights i wouldnt go into the pros, i would definitely have more fights before moving up.

Yeah, understanding a simple rule makes me a troll. I should be just like you, not understand simple rules and blame other people when i make a mistake instead of acknowledging my own mistakes and making sure they dont happen again in the future. It must be cool as hell to be like you, life must be wonderful.

No point in arguing with him because he doesn't know the full story like you do. Just let it be and have the minds wonder.
1 HitterQuitter 02-28-2010, 06:33 PM Personally I believe you should have more fights
King James III 02-28-2010, 06:39 PM 152lb........

Pork Chop 03-01-2010, 10:54 AM Hope it's not Matt cause Matt is pretty cool as hell to me. Would be out of his demeanor.
nah, i like matt, he's good people
just a lot of affliction-wearing wannabes down there
think that since they watch UFC and train bjj they know everything about boxing after 2 months of 2, 1-hour classes a week.
had another guy tell me that since he left & went to a boxing gym for a month or two, his hands were "clean" now; as if that's all it took.
phallus 03-01-2010, 10:13 PM good head movement and power punches, very impressive versy. i'd like to see you go pro in a couple years
sammiza567 03-02-2010, 05:06 PM you say you want to go pro in a few more fights? take this however you want it but my advice to you would be a good 2 -3 years more and 10-20 fights more. just my honest opinion. professional is a whole different ballgame although i do admit your style will suit you in the pro's. just saying. i know alot of kids who turned pro too soon and i mean you only have 7 freakin fights just take your time you have potential.
GoogleMe 03-03-2010, 01:14 AM I got disquialified this morning for not making the weight, which was 152.The day I was suppose to be in the championship. I weighed 152.4. Hi again friend, I'm sorry to hear about you not making weight. Would've liked to see another fight with you. But before you turn pro, you should seriously consider to face some better opponents in the amateurs. You haven't faced any real good opposition, even though you've been boxing for 7 years. Those guys were no better then anyone who've trained 1-2 years. Not saying you couldn't fight some of the best, but be real. Experience from fights owns everything else you've seen before. A great amateur career beats an average pro by MILES! I'd love for you to try fight the best in your state, and maybe around the country. Then consider pro.
Versastyle 03-03-2010, 05:23 PM I usually spar pros.ex-champions, opponents at least 4inches to a foot taller then me and outweigh me on average by 50-60lbs. Some may say sparring is sparring, but sparring is practice. If I broke that down into fights I'd have over 200 fights.haha. Reason my style is like a pro is because that's how I usually spar and who I spar with. I can't go amateur style on a pro in sparring.Haha.
I've been doing this for over 7 years but I think amateur is not always needed when you already have the experience (what you usually do amateurs for).I've heard of amateur fighters with over 200 fights and when they turned pro they were ****. The way I started boxing was as a pro type of style first, then I TRIED to switch it to amateur which didn't work too well. So I did opposite of what most ppl do. The amateur style and rules and such were confusing to me because I had to switch my style completely up for amateurs.
I did this tournament because my trainer wanted me to get used to the atmosphere and such when I turn pro. So while I was in the ring we decided I should work on a few things. As you can see I did different from my first fight then my second. We went over what I should do before each fight(work on)
I do plan on doing at least 5-10 more fights this year if possible then if things are right, turn pro. I agree with all of you guys about having more amateur fights because that experience is of course better then sparring experiences.
I thank all of you guys for your support and will continue to listen to your advice because it's vital for me as it is when I listen to my trainer. Having more then 2 voices that say the same things are usually right. Only disagreement is 2 or 3 more years as a amateur. I'm already 25, time is ticking, especially for the style I have.

Pork Chop 03-03-2010, 07:49 PM Hands were clean? I don't get it.
well that was the term he used to say that he suddenly had a lot of boxing skill, that his boxing was "crisp and clean". i mean, even if you could look pretty on the mitts in a month or two, that doesn't mean you know ***** about boxing.
Double Jab 03-03-2010, 08:00 PM You are legit for sure!
I'm lovin the way you kept your head on straight and your wits about you even when under fire and pressure. Technique looked sharp too, way to work it boss.
I have to agree with what one of the earlier posters said, you have a very bright future. You have the head for it, thats no doubt.
You have my respect, kudos to you. I hope we see you again, soon and often.

Your pretty good, but your opponent, is he really supposed to be fighting in a golden gloves tournament? He looks like he's been boxing for 2 months.

What weight do you walk around? So this was jr MW?
Pacmanjay 03-07-2010, 04:37 AM I totally agree with the whole promising thing, for some reason this dude looks like he could turn out to have a VERY successful boxing career.. The kid he fought in video number 2 looks like he could be a whole 2 weight classes up from him yet he beat him around the ring like he was a big ass rag doll!
NOt to put down your compliments of the TS because he IS good. But his opponent is nothing to write home about. In fact, he looked so awkward, weak, unskilled, unathletic that anyone with decent power would have ktfo him.

You can't tell but when I hit him hard with the first hit his eyes lit up and he was scared after that. A good first hit can change your game up. He stopped his other opponent the night before, but yeah, he needs more practice.
hateinyaeyes32 03-09-2010, 02:10 AM Every time I get hit which isn't too much(Maybe 2min rounds 3 on average), I think that I might be losing so I press harder.

Like 165lb... but if I fight the next day I can only balloon up to 2 and 5lbs. Crazy how some can do 15lbs.
