Vitali almost pulled out!
By Karl Freitag
WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klistchko and brother Wladimir spoke to the press today regarding the turmoil in their homeland, the Ukraine. The Klitschkos are supporting Viktor Yushchenko and encouraging a "peaceful protest" of the recent election won by Viktor Yanukovych amid cries of improprieties. Vitali admitted that he had to be convninced by his handlers not to pull out of his December 11 fight with Danny Williams, in order to join his brother in protesting the election. However, you can tell the situation in his homeland is destracting him. "You know what? Why the big interest in boxing?" Vitali snapped at a reporter. "Everybody before every fight I get the same questions....it's heavyweight boxing and every punch can decide the result....I'm ready for this fight. I'm ready for twelve rounds, but believe me, if I have the chance to stop Danny Williams and send him to the floor, I will take that chance." Also, for the umpteenth time, the champion repeated his mantra for this fight. "He destroyed my dream to fight Mike Tyson.....now I have the chance to show everybody that I am stronger than the man who destroyed my dream and I want to destroy the dream of Danny Williams."

Could this distract Vitali and lose control of his fight with Danny Williams? Lets hope not...
The heavyweight division might have just sunk lower.
jack_the_rippuh 12-01-2004, 04:36 PM "The Klitschkos make boxing look bad."
The1God 12-01-2004, 04:58 PM Well, if by chance he (Vitali) losses (I don't think he will) he can have an excuse.... Then when they have a rematch, Williams can use Tarver's famous line.... "Any excuses this time?"
They are looked up to by their country men. Hopefully Vitalli doesn't get to distracted.
LuKahnLi 12-01-2004, 04:59 PM The klits just look bad.
spinksjinx 12-01-2004, 05:01 PM Williams is promising retirement after this fight, but if he wins you know the his religious followers will be like in the name of "insert here" you are granted to use your fists because you are the champion...
I hate to indulge with religion here, but it happened with Tyson and it happened with Ali their followers road their coattails everytime they got paid.
The downfall is now that it seems Vitali isnt even serious now that the stuff is going on in Ukraine.....I think we will smell an upset, hopefully not.
GranTorino 12-01-2004, 05:01 PM The klits just look bad.
Hmmm...yea. And who are you again?
Eyeh8you 12-01-2004, 05:03 PM Yeah I was wondering about that Ukraine situation and if the Kilts were into it. I guess so! I don't think Vit is thinking that much about it. He just saying that to be patriotic, believe me the most important thing to him right now is this fight. I dont believe one bit they had to talk him out of canceling this fight!
I say he destroys Williams inside of 5

P@pasmurf 12-01-2004, 05:35 PM i reallyt cant see him losing either way. Williams is garbage.
!! Anorak 12-01-2004, 05:48 PM What do you base that on, P@pasmurf?
And the talk of Danny retiring if he wins... is that a fact?
dodge 12-01-2004, 06:27 PM He's getting involved in something he believes in. I can respect that.

Comes from his mouth direct dont know if that is reliable or not though....
Papa-Dont be an ignorant fool, people said the same thing when he fought Tyson (although Tyson quit)
It is anyones catch at the heavy division right now, My money is on Byrd or Ruiz though.
MlLkMan 12-01-2004, 06:33 PM i reallyt cant see him losing either way. Williams is garbage.
Yea Vitali will KO him.
BrooklynBomber 12-01-2004, 06:35 PM Hey I heard that too from other sources but Vitaly is still training is not planning to pull out because of civil unrest in Ukraine. In fact he wants to use his victory over Williams as a way to promote the situation in Ukraine. Yep Wlad is there but he is not fighting next week is he?
So dont trust these articles. He is a professional and will not pull out for any reason.
By the way its not so bad in Ukraine. THe protesters got what they wanted and there will be reelection.
Peace.
The Fix 12-01-2004, 06:47 PM klits probably comforted themselves by giving eachother one of their world famous naked hugs :D dont hate klit fans you must admit that was very questionable
dempseyfire 12-01-2004, 06:56 PM Actually from the sound if it this situation seems to be giving him a greater drive to beat Williams. He's not going to want to let his homeland fans down during this time in their history. Thus fight will def. be interesting.

You got it damn right!!!
DR. FREECLOUD 12-01-2004, 08:52 PM i don't think that there is a heavy out there that doesn't make the sport look bad. everyone complains about all of them. the klits don't look any worse than byrd or ruiz.
paulmmv 12-01-2004, 10:14 PM if that happends i will never respect vitali again

...I'm really starting to worry about Vit's focus in this fight.
He's getting involved in something he believes in. I can respect that.
...Yeah I agree with that!! They definitely don't want to see the old Soviet ways come back. They remember how it was and how free speach is something that didn't exist at all. We may have our different political opinions in this country but thank god we can voice em.
