NiGe2011 05-17-2005, 01:26 AM This is not a thread about the five BEST films of all time, rather it is about your FAVORITE one's, so there is no right or wrong... Anyway here is my list of favorites--

masterdirector 05-17-2005, 02:34 AM My favorite movies change all the time, so this isn't such a static list for me:
Nightmare on Elm Street
Rocky
Pulp Fiction
Office Space
Snatch
Oh Empire Strikes Back is better than A New Hope easily I thought.
Just watched the first 3 (or last 3) Star Wars films. First time I've watched them in about 10 years (i'm 22). Better than I remembered, but still not as great as people make them out to be, imo. George Lucas isn't that great of a director. I can't stand Lucas nuthuggers. He's an average director with a damn good story that he came up with. Even there, there are some big "WTF" moments. Ewoks? WTF? First thing I'd have done was gotten rid of those things. Especially once I saw what the final product looked like on set! OMG! They're ****ing Chuck E Cheese lame, even for the early 80s.
Saw Star Wars Episodes 1 and 2 in theatres. Overall, I thought they were decent. Still have to watch them between now and Wednesday, going to see Ep 3 in theatres Thursday.
I think there needs to be a film between Episode 3 and 4 showing Darth Vader running around being a badass the whole movie.
oldgringo 05-17-2005, 02:57 AM I think another good question would be what are your 5 favorite movie sequences? Sorry to jack your thread a little NiGe, but all of the star wars talk made me think about it. I think the battle at the end of Episode 1 (Darth Maul/Obi-Won, Qui-Gon) was one of my 5 favs ever. It had just about everything you could want in a short sequence and Maul was just bad-ass as hell.
masterdirector 05-17-2005, 03:10 AM Snatch has some of the best cross cutting in film I think. Just the way you see all the different groups in their own plotlines suddenly come together is really nicely done. Snatch is a great movie for anybody wanting to see pretty much most techniques used in a single film.
The boxing in that movie is exciting too. You've got to love the scene where Mickey (Brad Pitt) gets knocked across the ring, then is suddenly under water (though really still in the ring).
Yeah after seeing Eps 1 and 2 of Star Wars, the first 3 movies, the fighting was pretty damn tame. Imagine people 20-30 years from now who watch the Star Wars movies in order and don't bother checking the years they were made. They'll think Hollywood just got really low budget after Episode 3, lol.
masterdirector 05-17-2005, 03:12 AM Oh, damn, the Pulp Fiction Jules scene where he's about to shoot Brad or Brent or whatever. That was damn good too. The building tension and just the hilariousness of it all is very good.

Definately! I'll never forget "Mark, let me in" (screech....)"Just let me in Mark..I'm your friend". (It wasnt him brothers window during that scene..its was Mark Petrie..their friend they were on the way to see when Barlow 'got him") Poor Danny Glick just wanting a little nip, before going home to drain his mother dry. That scene and the creaking rocking chair from upstairs at the teachers house...when the guy that buried Danny 'came back' for a drink :D some cool **** for sure.

Signs was embarassingly bad, not really intense, and poorly written.

Signs was suspenseful..it was creepy in alot of ways, but not scary, per sey. It was good, but not something I can sit thru time after time. Blair Witch 2 kicked ass (mine, anyway) and was leagues above the first 'shout, scream, and snot flick'..totally different while dealing with the same subject material. The head trip the witch played on the group was fantastic, and the things she made them do and then forget they had done. Some truly nasty stuff! The grudge was okay..I'd say it depends on what 'gets ya', and what doesnt. I liked it..will watch it maybe two more times, then I'll be burned out on it.

Lol, rain and tap water, matter of fact. Pretty weak, but hey, something had to kill them, and I dont think the weapons on supply would out do their own. :D

Explain to me why aliens that could not deal with water would invade a planet that is mainly water
and still survive in the dewy cornfields at the beginning of the movie.
It's like Shymalan wrote it as he went along and didn't know how to end it. They've got The Village on PPV for 50 cents on Directv right now! lol - that guy had a great debut and took a serious nosedive.

Lol, tell me and we'll both know! It's about the same as "Dreamcatcher"..they landed (crashed maybe) in the woods way up north, and then couldnt handle the cold! Started to die off because of it. Dumbasses (according to the writers anyway) have us beat in technology HOW?? :D
oldgringo 05-17-2005, 03:29 PM Dreamcatcher sucked except for the part where all of the animals were running away. That part ****ing scared me because you know if the animals are fleeing then some **** is about to happen.
The best part of Signs was when Mel and Joaquin Phoenix ran outside screaming like crazy bastards trying to scare off whoever was outside. Mel was like, "I'm VERY angry right now!!" Joaquin was like, "You sons of *****es better get the **** outta here or i'll **** you up!" Yeah that was funny.

Absolutely awesome. I'm not sure if that was Joe Pesci's greatest role or the one he played in Raging Bull. Both are classics.

I could. he had a classic case of short man's syndrome and because he was a mobster he could vent his frustration freely.
"You know Spider, you're a ****in' mumbling stuttering little prick. You know that?"

tracylee 05-17-2005, 06:03 PM Dreamcatcher sucked except for the part where all of the animals were running away.
Oh yes, when the animals split, it's time to go (hey O.G..dodged any **** lately?? :D Or did you forget?)
As for signs, I laughed when Mel, being a former minister, tried to curse. He did manage a "it's time for an asswhipping" but the best part was when he looked to Joaquin Pheonix and told him he'd said that..like he was trying to get approval. Funny stuff.
tracylee 05-17-2005, 06:09 PM .....I liked signs alot and my kids love it. We watch that one over and over again. I like Shamalans work.
I like him too...I must be one of the very FEW that loved "the Village"..I really liked that twist at the end too. My daughter loves Signs..or atleast Pheonix (thinks hes cute anyway). If a person is used to blood and guts..in your face horror, then Shamalans work isnt necessairly for them. He's more like Hitch**** ...suspense, and building up to a wild ending, etc. I liked 6th sense too.

NiGe2011 05-18-2005, 01:30 AM I am shocked that "The Big Lebowski" is not getting more love on this thread. Hell, I guess I am suprised that the Coen brothers in general are not getting more love. I mean, Fargo was good, Lebowski was amazing, O' Brother was good, Intolerable Cruelty had its moments, and we just wont talk about The Lady Killers....
(and that is without even getting into stuff like the Hudsucker Proxy and other less known ones...)

yeah. As twisted as it is man....my favorite character was Agent Stansfield (Gary Oldman)..because being a corrupt D.E.A. agent is appealing in a taboo way. Glengary Glenross is an excellent movie that everyone should see.

I like Oldman..did you see him in "True Romance" with Patricia Arquette and Christian Slader (and many other big names!) He played a nasty looking pimp named "Drexel". Very cool movie, with alot of profanity and violence (gotta love it :D )

Love the Coen brothers but thought "Lebowski" was pretty lame.
Their best: "Miller's Crossing" and "Fargo".

yeah true. The way she talks and the girl next door look make her extremely attractive though.
NiGe2011 05-18-2005, 01:53 PM I didnt really think that Portman was all that great in Garden State, I mean I thought she was very good, but I thought she was much better in Closer (which was only kind of so-so). That being said, I thought Garden State was a very good movie, quirky, kind of funny, and kind of sad.

Yeah, that part was good. I also like it when Zack Braff wakes up in the morning and the knight is wandering around in his full armor suit. As a matter of fact, that entire scene is hilarious. "By the way, it says balls on your forehead".
For all of you action film'ish people, have you seen "The Way of the Gun"? It was pretty decent, a little talkie at times, but good for what it was supposed to be- both Benico Del' Toro and Ryan Phillipe are pretty good in it. A side-note, Ryan Phillipe has really grown on me as an actor, I used to just kind of push him into the category of the talentless pretty-boy actors, but he is really actually better then that.

Blood_Child 05-27-2005, 04:18 AM I agree, big time DROOL girl! :D
He's never looked hotter than in that movie ;)
haha, I love it lol
Blood_Child 05-27-2005, 04:19 AM My kid would be so jealous of that! We're both big fans of Jack the pumpkin king (pardon the multiple posts...catching up here!)
Hell I'm jealous lol I love spending the night with her haha. She's so spoiled.
tracylee 05-27-2005, 03:27 PM haha, I love it lol
Well, I love the way he looks in that movie, but it's hard to watch. Just at certain times during it, and just certain looks he gives, he reminds me of Brandon Lee. Not all the time of course, cause to me there is NO comparison (Lee was the hottest of all) but every once in a while it hits me how much a certain shot looks so much like him, and thats heartbreaking as hell. :(

I have it too...does yours have that interview with him (done like 2 days before he died) where he's talking about how you never know how much time you have left, or how many sunrises you'll get to see, etc. before you die? Damn, just thinking about it makes me want to cry. Beautiful man, gone way, WAY too damn early :( I dont like to watch the movie that much considering he died filming it.
Blood_Child 05-28-2005, 05:29 PM Yeah, it has that, sad indeed.

tracylee 05-28-2005, 08:11 PM Yeah, it has that, sad indeed.
Damned tragic really. Dont you think it's weird how he said all that stuff days before dying?? It's almost like he knew it was going to happen..unsettling.

I had trouble sitting through The Crow: City of Angels and didn't even try with any of the other sequels. How many are there?

Man, out of some blind loyality to Lee, I never watched the City of Angels..I think them making that one was in poor taste. The guy died filming it and I just think they should have left it at that (just my female, weepy opinion though :o ) I was a huge, HUGE Brandon Lee fan so that whole business hurts on many levels. I dont buy the bull about it being an accident either.
