View Full Version : What's the deal with golf?
Bombardier 12-01-2004, 03:40 PM I don't mean the sport itself, which could be fun though I've never played it. I mean the way it has become like shopping or home decorating for men...it's all they talk about.
If you think I'm being sexist saying women only talk about shopping and home decorating, then I invite you to come by my workplace sometime. At any rate, the men have been chattery hens as well and all they talk about is golf.
I know they are real people, both men and women, who aren't like this. But most of them are.
Explosivo 12-01-2004, 03:42 PM Its something that all men can do thats considered a sport, so therefore, manly. Even if your a totally unathletic fatass, you can still play golf. It has no boundries.
urdaddyinAZ 12-01-2004, 03:43 PM I'm a golfer, and it does get a little ridiculous. Got a question for you.
Ever see a dorky ****er in line at Taco Bell or whatever.....practicing his imaginary golf swing?

So instead of being men thse days men are pretending to be men. What an age we live in...

Golf is great, I took it up and cant complain...I havent got out as much as I would like to but I suck at it and it is no way to relieve stress let me tell you....
But I guess a bad day of golf is better then a good day at work.

Man, in the cubicle aisle next to mine they've set up a putting green with a mug and a few golf balls. Everytime I hear that "click" when they take a swing I cringe.
jabsRstiff 12-01-2004, 03:45 PM I have no interest in golf (18 holes). I do enjoy miniature golf, or just golf driving. That's about it.
The one thing duller than watching golf, is hearing some schlub obsess over his own mediocre game.

I understand that it can be fun and has some positive aspects like you mentioned. I just don't understand the guys who spend all day at work chit-chatting about it. We get enough chit-chat around here from the ladies.
urdaddyinAZ 12-01-2004, 03:46 PM Nothing unmanly about golf.....not everybody wants to rebuild carborators or sit around and drink a case of Pabst Blue Ribbon while throwing a frisbee to the dog.

Watching is the most ridiculous thing to do aside from watching cars go in circles...
Look at me, I turn right, get gas merge onto the road drive in circles
*Im an athlete *yay*

I agree. Hell, I'm not exactly mister mountain man myself or anything. The twittering about it all day thought is definitely a tad feminine, though.

It's quite possible they have nothing else in common and sports usually breaks the ice in conversation with men.

No. Every man cant just go out there and play a game of tackle football or fast pitch baseball, so we have lazy guy sports like Softball, bowling and Golf. They arent unmanly, they are low impact activities that let a man feel like a man by competing ina sport.

When people whine about their golf games I swear I want to drop them in a war zone or a Third World country so they can really have something to complain about.
It's just depressing when we live in the most privliges part of the world and we waste our time chit-chatting about golf, shopping, giant-ass houses, etc.

I agree...I was just blowing off a little steam. Though guys have to also get a real workout, by say running or something, if they want to live past the age of 60.

What the hell else we supposed to talk about, I dont like small talk so I usually dont say much but occasionally I like to shoot the **** with someone about random things....

You try carrying a 20+ pound bag over several miles, thats a workout.

Oh yeah, I agree. I just mean it's all these people talk about, and they talk about it all day, every day.

I cant say anything about that because thats all my girlfriends grandfather and I talk about usually, it breaks the ice plus thats all we really have in common.

When my dad and I talk it's usually about football or hockey (the old man's not a boxing fan  ). The only point I was really trying to make in the first place is that at work the men talk about golf they way the women talk about shopping and home decorating. They talk about it like it's the most important thing in the world, and they twitter on like schoolgirls. I'm not asking them to debate over the works of the classic philosophers or something, but usually guys are known more for being quiet and doing their work, or at least quietly slacking off and not causing a big commotion.
SonnyG8R 12-01-2004, 04:47 PM Golf is great, and one of the most difficult games to master.

Completely agree, It is a mental sport and if you cant be 100% focused you will play like garbage.
Being focused is the main objective to a great golf game.
