View Full Version : Arum offers Chico $2 million!!!
SacTown1 05-16-2005, 06:34 PM Another site just posted that promoter Bob Arum has offered Chico Castillo $2 million for a PPV rematch with JLC. As always, money talks, and a rematch would be the best move financially for Team Corrales. But does Chico want the fight? Will Gary Shaw bite? Will Chico's people in-fight and scrap over money and ruin the deal? Should Chico wait until after Mayweather beats Gatti?
REACTION!!!!

I think they deserve a rest, and they should have an "easy" fight 1st with someone else before tearing it up again...
The kinda fight they had was a career ending fight!
No need to push them... Give them both a win over someone respectable (but beatable) and then it'll be even MORE marketable!

you really want to watch tune-up fights? What's the point in that? Tune-ups are one of the big problems with boxing, champions are supposed to fight the best available opponent, bums and prospects need "tune-ups" not champions
Floydmayweather 05-16-2005, 06:41 PM Its not always whats good for the fans, its whats good for the fighters too.

Be a man and give the rematch, 2 million is good money wont be able to top that if he moves up and if he does he wont be winning againts tszu.He should even think about it if it was him in Castillo's shoes he would want Castillo to man up.

I would usually agree with you... But after that fight, they needed to be carried too and from the post fight conference the next day!
And I saw Chico on the tele at the Wright vs Tito fight... His Eyes are BLACK man!
Those boy's need a rest!
jchavez12345 05-16-2005, 06:45 PM Hopefully he takes the money, it would be a awesome fight again.
Brz_Pugilist 05-16-2005, 06:46 PM I would be very surprise if he turns this down!In fact if he does then he is just scared of getting into another brutal fight. For the people saying both fighters, dont give me that, Castillo wants this even more!
oldgringo 05-16-2005, 06:48 PM I want him to take on Morales or Mayweather next...a rematch would just be too damn much for these guys. This was the most brutal fight i've seen since Hagler/Mugabi.
Brz_Pugilist 05-16-2005, 06:50 PM Hey gringo, dont bring Castillo's name up.I think Castillo will be fine, its Corrales the one thats feels he might get hurt.
Martin (Top Knowledge) 05-16-2005, 06:51 PM I think the best fight for Chico at the moment is against Morales!... "Take a fighter coming up in weight!". Only problem is, Corrales stands a good chance of being out-boxed by Morales?

They! It was Corrales who needed help to walk. Castillo took a beating as well but he dished out more body work. The real fans need this fight to prove who is the best, im not saying he surely wins but it will prove it once and for all.

great call, these guys need to settle the debate, not just for their own pride & ego's, but for the hard-core fight fans as well, and a rematch is the only way....
they do deserve the rest, however, so let's give 'em 6 months and schedule a November 5th rematch for Vegas so the Wifey can buy me tix for an early X-mas gift :)
The Pretender 05-16-2005, 07:05 PM I bet Corrales ducks and pulls a Roy Jones because his ***** ass knows he would have lost if the ref didn't let him spit the mouthpiece 3 times and never let Castillo have a chance to hit the mat and beat a count.
Martin (Top Knowledge) 05-16-2005, 07:17 PM After a fight like that I think they've deserve a rest!
Morales and Barrera had 2yrs before they got back in the ring!
**** you lot and your, "they owe it to us to be back in the ring in 4-6 months!!!"
BULL****!!!...
Between them they had a career ending fight... :dunno: I can't say anymore than that!!!
Knicksman20 05-16-2005, 07:26 PM After a grueling fight like that they deserve a rest to recoop. All of us fight fans can say we want to see them in the ring right away but we're not the ones taking the punishment & having to heal our bodies like that; so it's easy for us to say that. Hopefully they space the rematch like MAB vs. Morales because Chico & Castillo was a more brutal fight that could shorten a career easily.
{BrownBomber} 05-16-2005, 07:33 PM Wht do peoplr keep saying time to recover, its not like they are gonna fight this week but im sure Castillo wont mind. 6 months is perfect, gives Castillo more time to train this time around. I also forgot to mention that Castillo took this as just another fight when Corrales knew this was the fight of his of his life. Maybe this time Castillo takes him seriously. Funny thing, Corrales said he would walk through hell and back but I still dont think he thought it would be this hard of a fight. It took all his heart all his balls, spitting his piece out 3 times and Joe Goosen to convince himself on not quiting the fight since th 8th round.
Manny_P 05-16-2005, 07:38 PM I don't think an immediate rematch should happen. It don't always work that way!

Quitting? I don't know about that. The 7th round Chico almost dropped him with a left hook before the bell. The guy's knees gave out on him right before the bell rang. The 8th round Chico hurts Castillo at the opening bell because he was still buzzed from the provious round & hurts him on about 3 occasions in that round. JLC buzzes Chico in the round but Chico gets his mouth-piece knocked out of his mouth. They keep exchanging after the mouth-piece is out & he hurts JLC again with a 3 punch combo. 9th round JLC pours on the pressure but was buzzed again by a right hand at the bell.

They NEED an immediate rematch. No two ways about it. With Chico spitting his mouthpiece out like that? C'mon. He'll lose more props if he doesnt give Castillo a rematch than he would if he lost the rematch.
brownbuffalo 05-16-2005, 07:59 PM He should definetly take the money and give Castillo the rematch, the problem is I don't think he will.
After watching the fight again you could tell that Chico was breaking down and wanted to quit after the first mouth-piece spitting incident (and yes people he did spit that **** out) on the 8th rd I believe.
After the second knockdown the ref should have stopped the fight seeing that Chico took his mouthpiece out and was badly hurt.
Castillo's stoppage was a little bit rushed watching it in real time, watching in slow motion will of course make it look like he was gone for about 10 seconds.
There's no denying Chicos heart and win though, but if he doesnt give Castillo the rematch he will definetly look like a lil biatch.
realheavyhands 05-16-2005, 08:39 PM chico wont fight the same and it will be a easy fight and the fans will be mad he aint slug it out...be careful what yall wish for.. chico should take da money and run literally ..get a easy win take the 2 mill and **** da fans in the process like a man
Brz_Pugilist 05-16-2005, 08:45 PM Believe me, chico will slug, Castillo is also a guy that can fight outside as well.I think Castillo would win the rematch.

WE are the ones who pay for Showtime subscriptions and for $500 ringside seats, so Chico and JLC owe US a rematch, if they don't want to fight each other again, that's fine too, but they won't be getting my rating points or my cash for a ticket to see them fight somebody who's not the best available opponent....the BEST need to fight the BEST, Chico and JLC are the best 135 pounders on the planet, and they should fight as many times as are necessary until the debate is settled
.::|ULTIMATE|::. 05-16-2005, 08:52 PM I think Chico should take it. He isnt gonna come up with that sort of money for a while. And Castillo said he wants the rematch asap so its only fair.
oldgringo 05-16-2005, 08:57 PM They should take a break between this fight and rematch. Another fight like this between the two and they could both be done as eilte guys for the rest of their careers. If Corrales were to do it again, he'd be best served by fighting more on the outside. His straight right and left hook were really taggin Castillo out there.
realheavyhands 05-16-2005, 08:58 PM castillo is more one demensional
realheavyhands 05-16-2005, 09:01 PM and if he thinks he got to slug to win dont take it...wait to see 155lb gatti vs 145floyd
Knicksman20 05-16-2005, 09:04 PM Chico could definitely keep him on the outside because of his power. JLC is used to being the bigger man being able to bully & punish his smaller opponents. With Chico you have a guy who's taller & stronger than him. Chico would do best to mix his attack up more than he did to keep him off balance. I think he stops JLC earlier this time behind his jab.
i think if corrales takes this hes gona lose
The Pretender 05-16-2005, 09:08 PM Listen to some of you guys saying: "oh they need a break / could be career ending / let them rest after that fight". Are these professional fighters or what? Then get their asses right back into the ring! This isn't the ****ing girlscouts. This isn't a cookie bake off! If you can't take watching these guys fight a brutal match again, go find another sport like golf or tennis. Quit crying for these guys when they're man enough to make their own decisions!
oldgringo 05-16-2005, 09:11 PM They should take a break.
.::|ULTIMATE|::. 05-16-2005, 09:14 PM They should take a break.
I dont think Castillo can affored to take a break he is on the short end of the age stick.
{BrownBomber} 05-16-2005, 09:16 PM castillo is more one demensional
Funny you say that he is the only guy to ever really beat Mayweather but guess what he got robbed. In the rematch he lost a very close fight no excuses from Mayweather this time. He beat Lascano a guy with power that fights from the outside very well and won a clear ud. Either way that Corrales wants to fight Castillo will be a great fight. I would never call Castillo one dimensional, his style is to break you down from what ever type fight you want to give him. One dimensional fighters are named Manny. :boxing:

Castillo is one dimensional accordin to Larry Merchant.
{BrownBomber} 05-16-2005, 09:30 PM Castillo is one dimensional accordin to Larry Merchant.
Larry "The Mexican Hater" Merchant you know that guy acts like he doesnt know the sport with all his baised opinions. My whole family hates his ass cause he has been talking his baised **** since we can remember.

did you see the match a few years back when Larry made a reference about a fight, saying "this was a great fight, whether you speak Mexican, English...." My Chicano room-mate at the time nearly destroyed our TV when he heard Merchant say "speak Mexican" I had to leave the room for my own safety :)
The Pretender 05-16-2005, 09:40 PM Larry's a tool. He hates Ruiz.
boxerman 05-16-2005, 09:42 PM The rematch would not be a war. Coralles wanted to please the fans and go to war. He fought Castillos fight and won. Even before the mouth piece incidents, he hurt castillo a couple of times; it was just at the end of a round.
In a rematch he would stand outside and use the jab and either catch Castillo with some heavy shots or win a decision.
As good as the first one was, the second one has the potential to be pretty boring. Besides the second fight usually doesnt live up to the first one. Ex. Gatti/ward, MAB/ Morales. I say skip the second fight and go straight to the third....if that was possible.
Manny_P 05-16-2005, 09:45 PM Well not all of em is perfect. Merchant does suck sumtimes and Jim is jest biased and have his favorite fightas. Can't please evryone na I mean.

Im glad im the only one that noticed this guy, he has been doing it since the Chavez era. We call him osito panda cause he used to have his black and white before. I swear my whole family hates his ass and its funny cause my girl recently started watching boxing with me and hates the ****er to. wtf?? did you say ..... know what I mean????
Do you know what you mean????
Round 1 05-16-2005, 09:49 PM They should take a rematch for a bigger purse.
The promoter has a scale on which to make an offer, and they will offer the minimum of this scale. It is up to the fighter's manager/negotiator to secure a bigger purse.
2 mil. is the bottom of the scale, some fighters get 8 to 10 mil to throw 50 punches in twelve rounds.
Their rematch will be a mega fight and their salary should reflect that status.

alliberg26 05-16-2005, 10:04 PM I Hope Corrales Bites...castillo Would Finish Him Off This Time...castillo Didn't Fight Rough Enough Like He Normally Does...corrales Was The Boxer Using A Rough Style Like Hitting Below The Belt And Rabbit Punches All Through The Fight,,,next Time ..after The Rematch Corrales Will Retire Just Like Trinidad...
borikua 05-16-2005, 10:13 PM If I was Chico I would take on Morales next and then make the rematch but for more than 2 mills...

During a fights introduction [DLH if I'm not mistaking]the Mariachis had just finish playing and Larry had the nerve to say something like "playing this music in a price fight is senseless."
The only thing senseless in a price fight is him.
Super_Lightweight 05-16-2005, 11:02 PM Coralles wanted to please the fans and go to war. He fought Castillos fight and won.
Please...as if it's that clear and cut. Corrales fought the fight he fought because his team thought that was the best way to do it. Jump on Castillo because he is a slow starter and drain him. It wasn't that easy though, was it? Corrales was very close to losing the fight himself. No one thought he would be able to win in the last round, and even though he did many people feel without the extra time he got, he might have succumbed anyway.
$2 million is plenty. These guys ain't De La Hoya or Jones and they cannot expect $6 million a fight. They just can't. If they hold out for more than $2 million they just won't be fightin'...period.
Rest for a few months, train a couple months, then fight again.
P.S. - Some of you are over-exaggerating Corrales' ability to keep Castillo off him. Even when Corrales backed off and "boxed" Castillo was right there with him landing his own jab.
`STEELHEAD 05-17-2005, 12:16 AM i was hopeing for a judah/corrales after a tuneup. there would be belts involved. would a judah fight be two million?

the first fight was great and i would love to see the re-match but is not the best move financially for chico a fight with morales is morales is the biggest mexican star right now and a ppv hit everytime he figths a fight with morales gets him more $ and it would be a hell of a fight .

It might be the only move for chico as Arum controls both fighters. (Castillo and Morales)
TheBrownBomber22 05-17-2005, 05:26 PM If there is 2 mill on the table There's no way Corrales will turn that down, he's been waiting for a well deserved payday!!

If they do rematch, JLC might not be so gung-ho with his defense taking shots before he gets to land his own. Chico has a pyschological advantage over him knowing he can hurt & finish him. Chico used the jab sparringly against him. If he uses it more he'd be able to control him more than the last fight because of his power.
