I've noticied during the past couple of years that alot of championship fights most noticeably in middle-lightweight divisions the use of colorful Grant boxing gloves. These gloves are very visually appealing and look much different than any other boxing glove I've have seen.

IMO the use of these odd colored boxing gloves is a refreshing change to the normal red Reyes and Everlast boxing gloves. The two and three color gloves remind me of when Foreman and Frasier fought and used similiar'red and purple' and 'yellow and green'gloves. I think Grant company saw some promise in this idea and designed its own line of boxing gloves to look similiar to these.

So, what do you guys think? As spectators of the sport do you prefer the standard red and/or black or the crazy color schemes of Grant. Or do you guys not care about what the stupid boxing gloves look like? Also, I would like to see Tyson fight in a pair of these gloves.

Grant gloves are comparable to having goose-down pillows strapped to your fists, they are way too wide and were designed for defense moreso than for offense, Reyes gloves are still built for power punchers, they are more sleek and can cut thru the guard easier than Grant's....YES, Grant's do look better than Reyes or Everlast or Winning brand gloves, but I'd rather see KO's than flashy gloves

Good point SacTown, I have also noticied that the Grant boxing gloves do look bulky like the old everlast gloves of Holmes and Tyson eras. Also, Everlast gloves are starting to look more and more like the Reyes gloves in that they are sleeker and less bulky.

good point on the Everlast design, you're right, they are looking more & more like the Reyes style....plus Everlast is getting into different colored gloves (I've seen gold & white in recent fights) so they're making a big push....

honestly though I think any fighter should be able to choose any glove for any fight, as long as it's one of the big 4 manufacturers....

Wasn't Holyfield-Lewis 1 the 1st title fight with opponents wearing different brands (Holy with Grant, Lennox with Reyes)???

In terms of visual appearance I think Reyes gloves are definitely better looking, then Winning, then Grant, then Everlast.

Obviously the gloves dont make the fighter though. Reyes is still #1 though.

I've resurrected this old thread because after watching FNF last night I really noticed how 'big' these gloves look. How can these gloves be the regulation weight of 10-12oz? And does the use of Grant gloves affect the outcome of the fight had Everlast or Reyes been used?

My point: the Grant gloves look really colorful and great but are they affecting the boxing match because they are bulky and seem to absorb more the blow than a smaller glove.

Thoughts/ opininions please.

I have a set of 14 oz Grant gloves and they are awesome! I personally prefer them over the popular Reyes model.

You guys are missing my point; look at my post on page 3. The question is how can the gloves appear to be so big yet are the regulation weight of 10-12oz? And does the size affect the outcome of the fight if reyes or everlast had been used?

to the above i see what you mean bout them looking bigger. I dont know how they are bigger unless the padding is less dense than say reyes. But also with them being so padded i wonder if winkys defence would be so good if he didnt use grant but if he uses reyes instead. Just a thought

I noticed that as well during the first fight. When the fighters put their hands up they blocked shots pretty easily and not just partially, but fully blocked. Plus I think Winky uses them and in the Taylor fight he was blocking the hell out of Taylor's punches when he was using that peek a boo style of his. I know he is great defensively, but it seemed like those Grant gloves helped him out a bit. They do seem fluffier for some reason. Maybe it's the colors that mess with our eyes. I know whenever I see a fight that has guys that were white gloves they seem a lot bigger. I remember the PBF/Judah fight Mayweather's gloves seemed a hell of a lot bigger. I personally like the Reyes gloves better because they are the puncher's glove, but I don't mind a variety in color as well.

Winky and Grant should be synonomous with "defense" because the way he uses them is a big advantage. I guess its one of the 'tricks of trade.' Actually, I once saw an interview with Shane Mosley on ESPN where he said that "they should change the name of the gloves to WINKY instead of Grant."

As for them looking bigger, I'm sure its not because of the colors but because they actually are bigger. Now I think the question is, are the gloves absorbing enough of a punches power to prevent a KO where if it were a different glove the punch may have felt harder.

Another thing, I think that if you have the smaller weight class fighters wearing these gloves then the affect of the gloves will be much greater than in the heavier weight classes. I think if Bantam, fly, and feather weight fighters use the gloves then you see a significant differential in KOs than if they were wearing everlast or reyes.

To me it doesn't matter what the glove looks like as long as they are quality. I have never tried Grants but they do look nice!

The design of the gloves is what sells me on them. I just love how the different colors can be put together, I remember when Roy got KTFO by Johnson he had these dark blue and red gloves, DOPE!

i have 16 ounce grants and a pair of everlast too...

imo the grant are much better and i dont see them being as bulky as sactown was stating. in fact i would say my everlast gloves have more padding and are wider also. ive never put on a pair of reyes gloves so i cant compare those two.

guys at the gym always ask me where i got my grants, i have green gloves with red and white design

i dont think wearing reyes or grant will affect the outcome of a well delivered 'ko' blow. i have a pair of 10 oz grants and they are very light and streamline. did anyone else notice the size difference between hattons gloves and castillos reyes in there bout? castillos reyes looked huge

i have had wear them all here is my list of favorites, considering the one that can cause the more damage on the oponent

1.- cleto reyes (the best of them all)

2.-Grant (they are really good the are wide but also king of hard in the foam area) so when you punch the oponent is gonna feel it a bit more tahn normal.

3.-i have to say everlast instead of winning because it will be better for causing damage (well if you dont have a punch like malinaggi you wont ever cause dmage) but i like winning better than everlast.

4.- Winning are the most comfortable of them all (except reyes) because they protect your hands more, i use them for training, sparring, etc. i like them a lot but they have too much pading or foam, so they are a bit soft.

like i said before all of them are cool and it depends of how comfortable you feel with the gloves, if you are a good fighter the gloves make no diference, for instance, mayweather jr used to wear winning for most of his carrer and he was undefeated, until recently he is been using grant and he is still undefeated, and he used reyes for castillo, de la hoya and a few more fights and he didn't lose the fights (the first castillo fight was a bad desicion by the judges but that is another subject).

so in all is what you like the most, grant are great for real, but the best quality and the best gloves for me are REYES.

I personally like the line of gloves we have now released as each addresses a fighter's preference

MX- pure punchers glove made with a combination of horse hair and foam
Protex3- made from high impact foam for safety and performance
1910- the original classic line

Gloves should not be decided in the contract, a boxer should be allowed to wear whatever gloves he feels comfortable with.

so if you want to use casanova gloves, you should be able to? that's idiotic, it'd hurt people too much
