View Full Version : New Pound-4-Pound Lists

So after the 2 big fights on Saturday, how did YOUR pound-for-pound list get shuffled? Did Winky earn enough respect to crack your top 5? or even the top 3? Did Judah do well enough to earn a higher P4P ranking? Let's see some new lists & your justifications for the rankings....here's mine to start the argument/discussion:

1. Mayweather - the most gifted & talented prizefighter on the Planet, until proven otherwise (& Gatti won't prove otherwise)
2. B-Hop: 20 defenses & counting, a big W vs. Taylor, combined with an average outing for PBF vs. Gatti, MAY get him back to #1
3. Wink: been damn-near flawless for 5+ years
4. Tszyu: dominant vs. Mitchell, will repeat that kind of performance vs. Hatton
5. Barrera: Fana was a joke, but let's see another classic vs. a top flight fighter between 126-130
6. Morales: great bounce-back W vs. PacMan
7. Judah: is finally living up to the hype
8. Chico: see #7
9. JLC: still a savage warrior
10. PacMan: needs a big W to stay in the top 10 thru the end of '05

Others, in no particular order: The Marquez bro's, Margarito, Mormeck, Barrios, Lacy, Johnson, Tarver, Toney, Ouma

On a somewhat related tangent- more then P4P, this is how I would rank the interesting middleweight division right now.

CHAMP: Bernard Hopkins
(1) Felix Sturm
(2) Winky Wright
(3) Jermain Taylor
(4) Sam Soliman
(5) Kingsley Ikeke
(6) Howard Eastman
(7) Arthur Abraham
(8) Robert Allen
(9) Fernando Vargas (should he stay)
(10)Felix Trinidad (should he not retire)

and now the pound for pound:

(1) Hopkins
(2) Winky
(3) Mayweather
(4) Kostya
(5) MAB
(6) Morales
(7) Chico
(8) Judah
(9) Pacquiao
(10)Castillo

SOON TO BE SEEN ON THIS LIST:
Kassim Ouma, Antonio Tarver, Rafeal Marquez

Felix Sturm above Winky Wright............I don't even have the words to describe how wrong that looks.....Felix Sturm, a better prizefighter than Winky Wright......well we're all entitled to our opinions I guess, however odd or drug-influenced they may be

I dont think that Felix is better then Winky by any reach of the imagination. I think that if the two of them fought Winky would probably even knockout Sturm. The only reason that I have him above is that this is not a P4P list or anything like that, just how I think the rankings should look, and Winky's only body of work at 160 is that one fight. It was a really spectacular win though, and that is why that single fight has him at #2, I just could not justify putting him over Sturm at #1 when Sturm has a lot more wins at middleweight over some solid fighters. After Winky's next fight he would probably take over that spot...

yeah you could easily put Johnson or one of the Marquez' at the #10 spot, I give Pac the credit because he's fought the Morales-Barrera-Marquez trio and done well in all 3 fights

Funny that Trinidad was top 10 P4P in some lists prior to the Wright fight and now he can't even get a decent middleweight ranking. Is this the effect of bandwagon disease or what?

OK... I'll do a P4P list on exactly WHO I think will WIN if WEIGHT wasn't a factor RIGHT NOW!!!... NOT what they have acheived in their career!

THIS IS SURPOSED TO BE WHAT P4P IS ALL ABOUT!!!

For example there's no way in the World a 40yr old Hopkins would be able to keep a 26yr old Pacquiao off him at the same weight!... Hence P4P!...

1. Barrera - He's got it all, and has proved it against the elite!

2. Wright - I've said for a long time this boy can out-box anyone! This is nothing to do with his recent victory!

3. Morales - Has mixed in the top class forever, and is still on top of his game!

4. Cotto - Call me crazy but this guy is SOOOO STRONG and hit's like a kick for a mule! He's the best 140lbr and the future of boxing!

5. Pacquiao - He maybe a little one dimensional, but "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"... He's showed his effectiveness against the best!

6. Mayweather - He maybe a little feather fisted, but he's got the skills to move and out-box almost all!

7. Tsyzu - With THAT MUCH POWER IN EITHER HAND! You can't dissmiss this guy, Not only that, he's an excellent boxer to boot!!!

8. Judah - Is an excellent boxer with good power in either hand, I think he's learnt a LOT for the Tszyu defeat!

9. Calzaghe - This isn't because I come from the UK, but He's 39-0 31ko's and has ruled the division since 1997! He looks to take your head off!

10. Hopkins - below Calzaghe because I think Calzaghe would beat him, but this is a sly old fox who will run and hit!

This is my P4P list!... I know it's very different from the usual **** you see. But I think P4P is surposed to be about "THEE BEST FIGHTER RIGHT NOW IF WEIGHT WASN'T A FACTOR"... Well this is what I think.

There's no marketing hype or what they've done in their careers before hand in there... just total honesty!

1. B-Hop (still king!)
2. Kostya (hasnt lost in years, and cant be stopped)
3. Winky ( i had him 9th but after the Tito fight damn)
4. Floyd (i would have dropped him further but he did beat Corrales and Castillo)
5.Barrera - (his trilogy has him this high)
6. Morales - (same plus the distuction of the pacman)
7. Diego - (king at lighweight for now)
8. Castillo - (right behind diego)
9. jj Marques- ( very underated but very boring for some fans)
10. glen johnson -( beat the man and the man who beat the man)
11. Marques - (needs to move up in weight to make a splash)
12. Pacman - (warrior but lacks boxing skills to be elite)
13. Spinks - (was king for a while with wins against Judah and Mayorga)
14. Tarver - Had various impressive wins at Light heavy. before he beat Roy)
15. Vitali - ( Is the king in the division, but since its weak, cant say much)
16. Oscar - (Tried to beat the best, but was way too big for him)
17. Margarito - (very underated but hasnt faced great opponents yet.)

(i had tito has #15 before the fight and i thought that was too high as well. His only win came against a real small welterweight. But now after the most one sided fight in history (between superstars) he doesnt make it in the top 20)

not fighting quality opposition doesn't take away from PBF's superior talent and ability, remember that his opponentss either ducked him (Gatti for 2+ years) or went to jail (Spaddy) or Floyd was back & forth to the courthouse himself

Morales beign 8? Morales lost to Barrera by a very slim margin. Then beat Pacquio who beat Barrera, and Pacquaio was ranked high P4P.
