One of the best I've seen is that guy who did
1)Kosta vs Judah
2)Barrara Vs Morales 1

The way he was able to tell that the punch in the 12th with B vs M, wasn't a punch and it was a slip is amazing.

Your talking about Jay Nady and Mitch Halpern I think. Didn't Mitch Halpern call that a knockdown in the first Barrera/Morales fight? I would say Steve Smoger and Kenny Bayless.

Currently Joe Cortez, in the past Mills Lane.

I would love to see Mills Lane come out of retirement. Besides him, my current favorite is Tony Orlando. Steinwinder is unpredictable.

Joe Cortez is one of the worst because he is partial to Puerto Rican boxers, that to me is enough to warrant an investigation on him. Randy Neumann also sucks because he does not follow the rules properly.

The best are Jay Nady, Richard Steele, Eddie Cotton and Steve Smoger is decent. These ref's follow the rules properly.

Don't forget Richard Steele as one of the all-time worst!

I like Weeks, Mercante, and Joe Cortez. Orlando and Raul Caiz are awesome, too.

Anytime I even notice that a ref is in the ring....then the ref is bad IMO. Nady is the worst for that....it's almost like his ass is trying to impress some chic in the stands. Cotrez lets the fighters fight and give them free reign on the tempo of the fight. Mills Lane was a legend at doing this........he let Tyson off with a warning after the first ear bite! Then made a educated decision after the second one......most refs panic in the ring.

I think Steele is very good.....although he will always be remembered for not giving Taylor the benefit he deserved.

Jay Nady is the best,

and Frank Cappucino too

Nady follows the rules

and doesn't let fighters like
Holy get away with headbutting
Ruiz with holding

and stops fights exactly when need be (i.e. Judah Tsyzu)

best ref in the business

plus he is big

Mills Lane was the best, I'm pretty sure he's done for good after having that stroke. Wish that some time HBO or SHO or someone could give an update on his health been a long time since I heard anything. Mitch Halpern was well on his way to being the best ref in the biz bar none, I always wondered why he would take his own life but that's always the question when **** like that happens to good people!
Jay Nady is imo a very up and down ref. sometimes he's very good and sometimes he's down right awful, I happen to think that the stoppage in Tszyu vs. Judah was a very good stoppage, I have never really like Zab and was glad to see him lose in that fashion, BUT when a boxer gets dropped like Zab was and gets up on TWO RUBBER legs and does the chicken dance with drool from his mouth to the floor and tries to point at the ref and say god knows what to him all just to fall straight the hell down again, END OF FIGHT!! You have got to remember the refs job is to protect the fighters, some may think that's just a cop-out for an early stoppage these guys are basically responsible for not only the fighters' safety but also the states athletic commission, as well as their future in the sport. In this day and age the mentallity is if someone gets hurt/killed/crippled etc. in the ring, The entire sport is to blame. The end result probably being a push by surviving family members to put a stop to boxing and combat sports as a whole! Sounds far fetched right, maybe not it seems to me this country has been heading down the road I like to call "The Pussification Of America" for quite some time and all it would take imo is one major lawsuit or a ****storm of pissed off widows and family members with an squad of ambulance chasing ACLU type lawyers to put an end to it for this grat sport in the good ol USA!
Man sorry for that tirade I got a little fired up there! By the way Frank Capuchino(sp?) is imo the worst ref ever all he does is yell at the fighters the entire bout never actually doing his job, mostly just sounds like *****ing!

That was Kenny Bayless if my memory is correct. Didn't he also ref the Hopkins/Delahoya fight?
