View Full Version : The Worse Heavyweight Champion of All Time... vandaNEXTlegend 12-01-2004, 02:45 AM I think this one is pretty simple but there may be a few who don't know...Primo Carnera. TheFairPole 12-01-2004, 07:59 AM John Ruiz is by far the worst ever! With his crying and complaining and his refusal to actually fight! You can say a lot of former champs who lost the title right away but you have to go with Ruiz for the way him and his trainer carry themselves! jabsRstiff 12-01-2004, 08:17 AM I agree with Vanda....only because John Ruiz has NEVER been the heavyweight champ. If you care about the sport, you will never acknowledge Ruiz as a champ, no matter what bogus BELT he has. Boxerdog 12-01-2004, 08:25 AM Primo Carnera is vastly under-rated.....usually by young people who rely solely on second-hand opinion. They think that "mob connections" equals zero talent. Carnera was the prototype for today's big, big men and had pretty good skills. He also had heart for days as his fight with Max Baer demonstrates. How many of today's fighters would keep getting up to continue in the face of such an onslaught? (even if they were allowed to continue) Not many! He was a decent man as well who did a lot of work for various charities. My vote for worst ever? Smilin' Leon Spinks. spinksjinx 12-01-2004, 08:27 AM Bruce seldon, Toney Tubbs Butterbean :) marvdave 12-01-2004, 08:38 AM Bruce Seldon Ranger2408 12-01-2004, 08:38 AM butterbean was never champ :D chump he is beating up people that prospects fight to pad there record spinksjinx 12-01-2004, 08:44 AM butterbean was never champ :D chump he is beating up people that prospects fight to pad there record He had held a belt might not be recognized but that is champ, de la hoya and sturm held wbo which carries next to none on the credibility charts...Butterbean held the IBA title...... Not recognized but still champ none the less..... However maybe I shouldnt have opened that can of worms because then we could list all of the regional and state titles.... But Butterbean is a household name so he gets my nod. guru 12-01-2004, 08:49 AM i vote for seldon too paulmmv 12-01-2004, 09:46 AM the champion i disliked the most was lennox lewis spinksjinx 12-01-2004, 09:51 AM the champion i disliked the most was lennox lewis You and about 99.7% of the general public.. Lennox wasnt the worst and beat everyone he ever faced and is shunned now but in about 10-15 years hell even now people want him back... Lennox is/was the best heavyweight the early 90s until now... Noone will fill his place for a good while... Tyson'scolon 12-01-2004, 10:24 AM I never thought I would say this, but LENNOX, come back!! All is forgiven! We need you!! The1God 12-01-2004, 10:30 AM I never liked Larry Holmes, I cant say he was the worst though. I never cared for James Smth either... But as for as the worst HW champ, I would say Ruiz. He just makes quality fighters look bad. It is his style that I don't like. It is strickly opinion based. TheGreat1 12-01-2004, 11:16 AM the champion i disliked the most was lennox lewis no one cares you yo dislike, the question was who was the worse, and even though u don't like him, you can't really think he was the worse ever. i am goung with seldon, and mcCall P@pasmurf 12-01-2004, 11:35 AM umm, can we sane john ruiz Kid Achilles 12-01-2004, 12:59 PM Bruce Seldon for sure. The dive he took in the Tyson fight was disgraceful. He dissapointed millions of people that night, but his fans were hit the hardest. At least Carnera tried in his fights. Mikie 12-01-2004, 01:02 PM "Lame" Lamon Brewster! urdaddyinAZ 12-01-2004, 01:21 PM Roy Jones Jr Xecutioner 12-01-2004, 01:28 PM leon spinks, buster douglas, bruce seldon. sad to say but you could probably add hasim rahman to that list. Kid Achilles 12-01-2004, 02:30 PM I agree with Hasim but only on the basis of how poor a job he did at retaining his title. He is definitely more talented then some of the former champs, and he has shown a lot of heart in the past. If the guy would just keep his mind on boxing, he could be champion again. vandaNEXTlegend 12-01-2004, 02:33 PM Primo Carnera is vastly under-rated.....usually by young people who rely solely on second-hand opinion.
