View Full Version : Official Johnson-Tarver II Poll
jpboxer3 05-13-2005, 12:06 PM Who do you guys think will win the rematch?
http://www.boxingscene.com/media/data/500/8902T-O-T.JPG
I think Johnson will win in convincing fashion this time.He had less than three months to prepare for Tarver the first time around, after his biggest win of his career over Jones Jr.He wasn't all there mentally and physically against Tarver,so I feel with the rest and the time to prepare for Tarver,he'l be more sharp in the rematch. Johnson by TKO9
Martin (Top Knowledge) 05-13-2005, 01:50 PM Tarver by Decision... I reckon he'll do it by 2 or 3 rounds this time.
115-113 :dunno:
Zab Super Judah 05-13-2005, 02:16 PM tarver doesnt punch enough to win....he will only win if he ko's johnson.....but im going with johnson by decision
drez24 05-13-2005, 02:22 PM I thought tarver did enough to win the first one, so I definitely think he'll do enough to win the rematch.
welshwales 05-13-2005, 02:24 PM Johnson SD for me maybe 115 113 115 113 115 115
!! Mr. Soprano 05-13-2005, 02:27 PM Tarver is a lazy bum.. he will wake up and smell the coffee for the second fight.
I see Tarver UD
Neuraxis 05-13-2005, 02:30 PM tarver doesnt punch enough to win....he will only win if he ko's johnson.....but im going with johnson by decision
Exactly Tarver takes off way too many rounds. I think my love for Roy Jones Jr. is well known, and Tarver vs. Jones I was not as close as people act like it was because Tarver throws arm punches and he continuously kept taking off rounds.
abdiel2k3 05-13-2005, 02:55 PM im gonna have to change from the first fight
and go with johnson on this one
i mean
after that performance
id be a fool to pick tarver
ijust hope glen KOs the bich to finally shut him up
Soundtraveler 05-13-2005, 03:08 PM I am picking Johnson to win by decision. He is too busy for the cautious Tarver....
neils7147933 05-13-2005, 03:19 PM Johnson SD for me maybe 115 113 115 113 115 115
that would be an MD if one of the judges scored it even
drez24 05-13-2005, 03:22 PM damn this poll is dead even right now. I'm surprised so many people see it so many different ways.. especially the draw.
jpboxer3 05-15-2005, 10:01 PM Alot of people think Tarvers some young up and coming fighter, when he's actually older than Glen Johnson by a few months. That being said,I dont think theres much more Tarver can improve on from the first fight, aside from the lame excuses.
Natty Dread 05-15-2005, 10:23 PM I pick Tarver by UD but i think it will be Tarver by late TKO. :boxing:
Konstantin 05-15-2005, 11:13 PM Tarver took Glen way to lightly the first time and he will put out enough work to win a decision or KO him.
Manny_P 05-16-2005, 12:18 AM **** all of you! LOl
Tha Greatest 05-16-2005, 12:23 AM If Tarver can bring his A game and instead of throwing pity pats and throws a man punch
then I choose Tarver by a late stoppage
The Troll 05-16-2005, 12:28 AM Magic Man by descision. Tarver has great power, but the Road Warrior has a good chin and is a crafty veteran I think it will be another close fight, but Tarver's better handspeed and power will win it for him on points.

Tarver's handspeed is nothing spectacular, lol.Whenever he tries to throw quick combos,it's more pitter-patter,and he loses power when he does it.Overrall,I think Johnsons handspeed is much better.
Shaolin Bushido 05-18-2005, 02:01 AM To Johnson, this is his BIG fight. To Tarver, he's already won his dream fight, complete with witty remarks forshadowing his KO victory.
Johnson will outwork his ass again and he'll retire.
Shaolin Bushido 05-18-2005, 02:02 AM Oh yeah, I picked "draw" which is bull****. It basically sums up the amount of enthusiasm I have for the fight. As I said, I think Glencoffe will outwork his ass for a decision win.
josenoway 05-18-2005, 02:14 AM Glen by SD...I figure Glen's been so well prepared his last few fights, and he's been great with sticking to his gameplan and for the most part controlling the pace with that unrelenting pressure.
Hopefully it's more exciting than Winky Tito. (heh, winky tito, sounds funny).
NiGe2011 05-21-2005, 08:47 PM Glen Johnson, despite not being somebody I am a huge fan of, has certainly done his job to earn the respect of the sport. "The Road Warrior" went from being just that, a journeyman fighter, to somebody who has found their niche at light heavyweight and is getting his time in the sun. That being said, I do not think that he is as good as Antonio Tarver is. Tarver took alot of time off in that first fight, as in entire chunks of rounds, and did not seem to have his best stuff, and despite all that I thought that he had what it took to pull out a close but clear decision. The judges thought otherwise however and the decision went to Johnson. Do not expect Antonio Tarver to take it as easy on Johnson in the second fight. He is going to be much busier then he was the first time and will not have too much trouble landing shots on the less technically skilled Johnson. I like Antonio Tarver by KO here setting up a pretty big return fight for Roy Jones Jr.

I definately concur

this is just a very gay nickname :D
johnson still
Zab Super Judah 05-21-2005, 10:45 PM TARVER is one of those boxers that I trully hate..IM A TARVER HATer
NiGe2011 05-22-2005, 02:18 AM Hate him or not he is going to go to work on Johnson for a second time come June 18'th. And this time he is not going to give the judges the chance to see it the other way. Johnson is going down in this one, and he is not getting back up.
jpboxer3 05-22-2005, 02:38 AM And this time he is not going to give the judges the chance to see it the other way.
I see when Tarver said something like that in the post-fight interview,it got stamped to your forehead in the process.I dont buy into that, especially when a 36yr old Antonio Tarver had nine friggin months to prepare himself for Johnson the first time around.
I remember Tarver saying he was gonna KO Johnson before the first fight, and I laughed then, and i'm laughing even harder now, because he's still saying it and fans are still buying it.
NiGe2011 05-22-2005, 02:40 AM I think he could have KO'ed Johnson in the first fight, but Tarver has the tendency to be a little gun-shy. He took to many rounds off against Johnson, and despite the fact that I thought he won- Glen got the decision. But, you also need to remember that Tarver is good in rematchs. He loses a decision to Eric Harding and KO's him in round 6 of the rematch. He loses a decisin to Jones and KO's him in round 2 of the rematch. I think the trend will continue against Johnson.

Tarver beat Harding and Jones in the second fights
Johnson beat Harding and Jones the first time around
Trend ends JUNE 18!
So I guess those 16 others who voted for him to K.O. Johnson dont know what they are talking about jpboxer3? LMFAO.

Those 16 others either haven't seen enough of Glen Johnson fights,or they believe in all the bull**** coming out of Tarvers mouth about being Super-human in rematches, lol.
Hey,I talked the talk before their first match even when that poll was lopsided in Tarvers favor. This is basicly just a popularity vote, and of course Tarver mouth is gonna win it everytime.I wish I could make a Poll for hardcore boxing fans only.

I agree with that. Johnson was awarded a gift decision the first time around....the second....he wont leave anything up to the judges. Simply beating the lesser fighter.

I'm a hardcore boxing fan, and I thought Tarver won as well. I've seen a handful of Johnson fights, and granted anything could happen in the rematch, but I think Tarver will beat him. I'll be rooting for Glen the whole way, but I don't think Tarver will let Johnson outwork him in the middle-late rounds like he did last time.

Wasn't MAB considered washed up and was definetly the lesser fighter in the 3rd fight against Morales?Hell,I remember most of you were doubting MAB until he showed that Morales will never ever have his number,as he won a close decision.Samething with Tarver-Johnson II,no one wants to believe Johnson can beat Tarver again.Alot of people thought Morales would blowout MAB in the 3rd fight, just like most think Tarver will blowout Johnson.Trust me folks,it aint happening ;)

That is called stereotyping. And another thing: I already posted what I thought ten times...especially on the Antonio Tarver thread. It seems funny that you only single me out...when plenty of other people are picking Tarver.
LOL!
oldgringo 05-29-2005, 06:14 PM I hate Tarver, but I still think he's better than Glen at this point. I hope to god that Johnson proves that statement wrong though.

I single out anyone who doubts Johnson can beat Tarver again. It's like saying Barrera has no chance against Pacquiao if they had a rematch, which is understanding but a little ridiculus to me.

I understand where you are coming from. I realize Johnson is one of your favorite fighters. I will also say....that in boxing, strange things can happen. And if you consider Tarver knocking Johnson out strange:
I thought Tarver knocking Jones out was even more strange. I dont like Antonio Tarver, and actually agree with Oldgringo to a certain extent in that I would rather see Johnson win. I like him for what he is....a journeyman who has lost 9 fights. He is by no stretch of my imagination a greater fighter than Antonio, despite how you think he is.
joeboxer 05-29-2005, 06:32 PM Johnson is the kind of fighter that proves your record is not you in the ring.
Tarver might have more talent, more power, more flash, greater skillz, more ametuere experience, better trainers, a Nike deal, a hotter girlfriend, a real promoter, and all that **** but when you get in the ring you have to win the fight yourself.
Which Tarver did not do against Johnson. It's Tarvers fight to lose, but I have no doubt in his ability to lose it again.
If he doesn't get the KO in the first 3 rounds I think Tarver will get beat again.
Towards the end of hard fights he just doesn't want it enough. And Nothing can make up for that.

A journeyman before he won a World title that is.And half those losses were flatout robberies.
I see Johnson on the same level as Tarver, regardless if Johnson doesn't have the flashy, polished boxing skills that Tarver possesses. What I see in Johnson,is a hardworking pressure fighter, that maybe limited talent wise but makes the most of what he has unlike Tarver.
Yeah,I would be shocked if Johnson got KTFO,maybe a similar feeling when my other favorite fighter JL Castillo got Kayoed by Corrales.I think Johnson is similar to Castillo, because I know Johnson wont be easily Kayoed, without giving it his all.
jpboxer3 05-29-2005, 06:52 PM hotter girlfriend
Towards the end of hard fights he just doesn't want it enough. And Nothing can make up for that.
Johnson has a hotter Wife, lol.Tarvers wife was that chubby blonde headed chick behind him when he lost the decision.
Yeah, everyone thinks Tarvers a young hungry fighter, when he's not.At 36,I doubt he has the desire to put up with Johnson pressure another 12rds,so he's gotta go for an early KO,which is always possible but I doubt it would happen.Honestly,I like Johnsons chances of Kayoing Tarver better, because he'l be digging into Tarver 36yr old body all night, which will leave Tarver head wide open.Yeah,ya'l can laugh but a stronger Glen Johnson will show up in the rematch, since he's had more time to prepare for Tarver this time around. The first fight,he had less than three months to prepare,so dont just think Tarver will be the one that made a big adjustment to gain the edge in the rematch.
jpboxer3 06-13-2005, 09:13 PM This Poll sickens me :o
Manny_P 06-13-2005, 10:07 PM This Poll sickens me :o
dont worry brah, Ima put on my sig the peeps that were misleaded and think that Tarver wins. LOL
Jest like I did wit Hatton vs Tszyu.
This proves the majority of BOXINGSCENE know shyt bout boxin. Especially the ones who act like they know, but they DONT!
Manny_P 06-13-2005, 10:30 PM tARVER WAS STUMBLING HIS WERDS TO MAKE EXCUSES. lol
AintGottaClue 06-13-2005, 10:32 PM Johnson by KO in round 12, he had him hurt then he will do it again but earlier and finish him.say good bye tarver, time to wake up and smell the coffe the glencoffe that it johnson style brew baby
TheEvilSaint 06-13-2005, 10:38 PM people fail to realize that tarver is NOT a KO artist and johnson hasnt been KOd since his loss to hopkins in '97, and johnson's never been knocked down either. with johnson's chin and tarver's lack of spectacular KOs, this one will NOT end in johnson getting KOd.
sidenote: tarver knocking out roy jones is not spectacular. jones has a weak chin and he was caught flush. jones getting KOd by a mediocre punch just goes to show that jones was a poser. it was a spectacular result from an unspectacular punch.
SUPER ZAB FAN 06-13-2005, 11:21 PM Until Roy Jones was knocked out by tarver .
WHen was this Weak Chin that you speak of exposed ?
`STEELHEAD 06-13-2005, 11:58 PM tarver doesnt punch enough to win....he will only win if he ko's johnson.....but im going with johnson by decision
agree with all three points. plus there is some possible idle talk going around that tarver in the past week has been out clubbing and shooting off his mouth.that has to worry tarver fans.
tntkid 06-14-2005, 12:26 AM This fights got Tarver UD written all over it.
I sure hope Tarver does not win, I can already smell Tarver vs. Hopkins...quite possibly the most boring fight ever.
I am a cult fan who doesn't miss anything and I can almost almost almost say that it would not hurt me to miss Hopkins v. Tarver...**** that would be bad.
The Fix 06-14-2005, 01:27 AM there is no way tarver is losing this fight, too much money to be made for a trilogy and tarver imo has all the tools to beat johnson this time around. it will be very competitive but i see tarver winning by a score of either 115-113 or 116-112.
i also see tarver winning the third fight between them if and when it happens.
IwatchBoxing 06-14-2005, 02:37 AM Tarver won the 1st fight, the 2nd he wont lag around, I think he might even KO Johnson, now that he already study him in the ring, and felt him out.
DiegoFuego 06-14-2005, 03:39 AM Tarver won the first fight and he'll win this one too
Leo Pradun 06-14-2005, 09:04 AM Tarver won the first fight and he'll win this one tooey yo puta Tarver didint win the 1st fight Johnson did
Leo Pradun 06-14-2005, 09:05 AM I think Tarver will win this fight either by KO or decision...
