Fighting Marine 02-06-2010, 09:58 PM When i think great left hooks i think of Joe Frazier's sledgehammer......Sugar Ray Robinson, Floyd Patterson's leaping left hook against Ingemar Johansson and a few more....but in your opinion who had the best???? the perfect combination of technique, power and speed???

I'd go with SRR on this but P4P, at 175 and 185lbs respectively, Bob Foster and Henry Cooper are well worth a mention..
guzi815 02-06-2010, 11:00 PM Theres quite a few that come to mind.
De La Hoya, Tito Trinidad, Joe Frazier, Jeff lacy, Tommy Morrison, David Tua...all these dudes that a wicked left hook. There's the Left-Hook-to-the-head, David Tua was devasting at that! De La Hoya had a sweet Left-Hook-To-The-Body, (The Mexican gut punch!) Trinidad was more of a head hunter.
Versastyle 02-06-2010, 11:02 PM It's out of Trinidad and Tua.

From the 90's, maybe, but what about all the other era's?

He also said, 'pound 4 pound,' and Tua weighs in at around 240..
Sonny Liston at 210 or Joe Louis at 200 are far better examples..
Trinidad's not a bad call, but i'd have Joe Gans and Jose Napoles slightly above him..

All about, opinion, buddy, all about opinion. Also P4P is everyone.
mhager91490 02-07-2010, 01:09 AM I put my vote on Ruben Olivares, the original Mexican left hooker.

Absolutely, and yes, p4p is everyone, but i do feel a lot of these p4p arguments are far too one sided in favour of the heavies.. Few people seem to take into account that a lot of the smaller guys achieved more.. Gans, Napoles and SRR all put on more stunning displays by breaking down and KOing world champions with the left hook than David Tua..
As in terms of 'best,' it may be great to watch it executed against fellow contenders, but if Lennox Lewis was able to take it flush, then that says it all really..

Can't KO them all. Ask, Tyson, Foreman, and Shavers. Some but not most get away.

That's a really good call, and shamefully, i forgot all about him.. Olivares's left hook to the liver was legendary.. He'd also double it up to the chops when he had a guy in trouble..

His best attribute is that he was real sneaky with it and he would throw it at all different speeds so it was hard to predict, he was absolutely excellent at breaking a fighter down with that one punch.
