View Full Version : Federal Boxing Commission
"The measure, approved on a voice vote, would set up a national computerized medical registry of boxing personnel and would provide uniform ranking criteria and contractual guidelines.
The bill, which must still be considered by the House, is sponsored by Sen. John McCain of Arizona, a boxing fan who has long tried to clean up the sport by better protecting the health of boxers and ensuring fair financial treatment for them.
The three-person U.S. Boxing Commission would be appointed by the president and function within the Commerce Department.

It would be awesome if this actually works out. Hopefully, Don King won't corrupt the process by giving a bunch of money to politicians. He has a knack for corrupting situations to his benefit.
Martin (Top Knowledge) 05-11-2005, 05:02 PM For a second I thought another governing body had popped up!!!
The Troll 05-11-2005, 05:03 PM It would be horrilbe if they did this. The federal government is dipping into everything these days. They wont even let state governments have the power to officiate boxing matches anymore. Having one gigantic commission with all the power, believe me would be horrible. When you have 50 commissions if 1 is corrupt then you have 49 other commmissions to fight under. If you have just have 1 gigantic commision with tentacles in everything belive me it will be inherently corrupt and nobody will able to escape it. ESPN (ABC) put up alot propaganda pushing for this. LIke they televised a bunch of fights where they knew the descison would be bull****. So they could forward their agenda for this. It would be the worst thing ever if they have a federal boxing commision. State governments are alot closer to the people and there is better oversight than with the Federal government, leaving less opportunities for corruption, especially in the small states.
They say the federal commission would help boxers but its bull**** there is no reason why the Nevada State Athletic commision cant create a pension fund for boxers or whatever. And pension fund and all that **** just means a tax.
Its alot easier for 1 commision to become corrupt than 50. Especially a commision that has so much power.

3 people with all the power in the boxing world. What a horrible Idea, everything the US government does they say it is in the name of "protecting people," the line gets old after a while. They are more corrupt than anybody to be in a position to accuse others of corruption.
Boxerdog 05-11-2005, 05:15 PM For the LAST TIME!!! ......
(1) Boxing is a GLOBAL sport! Does McCain fancy himself "ruler of the planet"??
(2) The U.S. government has proven time after time that they CAN NOT effectively administer ANYTHING! Put them in charge and "Everlast" mysteriously wins the biding war and is allowed to furnish all boxing gloves........at 30,000 dollars per pair.
Dick Cheney's big business cronies all would manage the "old fighter's fund" which would mysteriously go bankrupt.
Don King would resign rather than associate with "those crooks"!
Its a much better idea than the 50 states. All you need is 1 corrupt state commission(Nevada is well-known for its corruption) and corrupt people can put fights there. Someone banned by 49 states can still box at an Indian reservation. If the states are so in touch with the people why have they done such a horrible job with boxing so far. Boxing is corrupt right now and everyone knows it. This possible new commission has a much better chance of breaking the corruption than the state commissions that have already had decades to do it and haven't even tried.
The corruption in the government is mostly because we allow politicians and their parties to accept so much corporate money. If the people pushed to keep people/corporations from making enormous campaign contributions the way our government works would start to change. The way it is right now a rich campaign contributors vote counts a lot more than a poor or middle class person's vote

IF this happens the sport of boxing will be destroyed.
The Troll 05-11-2005, 05:24 PM If this happens you are going to be watcing alot more fights happening in Germany at odd hours of the day to find any decent less corrupt boxing.
3 men with all the power
Everybody has a price
Appointed by the government headed by George Bush

The 3 men wouldn't have absolute power and every few years there would probably be new people on the commission. Also the president doesn't appoint the people to the commission.

Who is the oversight of these 3 men. The fricken heads of the democratic and republican parties, oh thats great. So george bush would be the oversight for the republicans, and who for the democrats Nancy Pelosi. Both professional liers with no integrity.
Why anybody would want to extend the power of the federal government is beyond me. The more power the Federal government has the Less significant politically the average person becomes in terms of influence on the government.
It wil be such bull****, like if your a boxing promoter who has views that the democratic and republican party dont like they wont sanction your bout. And if your not politically correct they wont liscense you.

If we were to follow your logic that we shouldn't have a federal boxing commission because it would be corrupt then we can't let the government do anything because it will all become corrupt. Also you seem to be ignoring the already corrupted state that boxing is currently in.

You are propagandist that probably works for the federal government. You cant possibly be so stupid as to actually believe this would help the sport of boxing. The more power you have the more chance of being corrupt there is. And this commision has absolute power, its complete bull****.

First off, I know so much more about this country and how corrupt it is than you do. Second, you are demonstrating the same mindset(essentially all emotion and no logic) that the right wing in this country tends to have...you just happen to be liberal. I don't work for the government and I don't even watch news on TV because it is owned essentially by 3 companies as is almost everything you watch on television. You are just like an arrogant and ignorant conservative you just happen to be liberal. By the way I don't have a problem with conservatives or liberals I have a problem with how our "democracy" works.

IF this happens the sport of boxing will be destroyed. Get used to watching German TV to see boxing at odd hous of the day. That is what it will be like in 10 years. If you want to see real boxing.

and international commission would make more sense to me...boxing is a global sport as someone above stated and if Boxing will be governed by one commission, I think an international commission would be more fitting
Your a propagandist, I am ignoring you, I advise everybody else to do the same.
That is unbelievable. I am a propagandist. If I was a propagandist would I waste my time putting propaganda on this website. You are obviously just a kid that's angry at the world as evidenced by your picture. Your last few posts have been completely void of any argument. So now you are going to ignore what I have to say. Its just like the Fox News associating those against the war/Bush with not being patriotic. I really feel sorry for you.
trespasser 05-11-2005, 06:03 PM It wil be such bull****, like if your a boxing promoter who has views that the democratic and republican party dont like they wont sanction your bout. Every single boxing match will be " This is dedicated to the brave men and women fighting in the middle east" and if your not politically correct they wont liscense you.
Actually, I doubt they will ever concern themselves about the boxers political views. I would guess that it more is likely to end up being not so much political in that way as excessively bureaucratic. Lots of clipboard carriers who will CYA prize fighting right into being indistiguishable from the amateurs. It will be every bit as easy to have a fight as it is to conform to OSHA standards or get EPA to approve a building project, for example.
and international commission would make more sense to me...boxing is a global sport as someone above stated and if Boxing will be governed by one commission, I think an international commission would be more fitting
That's a good idea but any international commission formed should realistically deal with the other problems the world has right now. Its almost impossible to get the international community to intervene when there is a genocide. Let alone when there is corruption in boxing.

Red_Menace 05-11-2005, 06:15 PM I think a federal boxing commission could work out well. Every other pro sport has a commission, and I don't see much corruption in the NFL, NBA or baseball. I'm sure there's some, but nothing so dramatic that it really impacts the day to day of the sports or what the product the fan gets. Boxing needs someone to step up and protect the fighters. Right now, it doesn't seem like the individual states are doing that.

Finally, logic, either for or against the commission enters the thread.

You are blind if you dont see corruption in professional sports. Its just not publicized like it is for boxing. IMO the NFL in particular is an extrodinarily corrupt league. Look who the owners are of these professonal sports teams. OH GEORGE BUSH the former owner of the Texas Rangers.
You know you get sewed if publicize anything about the NFL without the express concent of the NFL commisioner Rosenberg. If you write something about the NFL in a newspaper that in circulation of a town of 10,000 people and the NFL finds out they sew you. So you cant write an OP-ED in newspaper saying the NFL is corrupt because if you do it is illegal and the NFL will sue you.

How do you know that's true about the NFL? If that were true, you certainly couldn't have read about it, could you? I'll admit that could be true, but I'd want to see something written or other type of news before I'd actually believe it.
And yes, I do recognize there is corruption in professional sports. There always has been and will be. But I think there are a few things a federal commission can do better, like setting standards to protect the lives and well being of boxers.

It is true what I said. You have my word that it is true. Its up to you whether to accept my word or not. But go surf the internet and try to find an article criticle of the NFL or accusing it of being corrupt you wont find a single one for the reasons afformentioned.

I dunno. If some guy walked up to me and pointed at someone and said, "That guy is a rapist," I'd probably not take their word for it unless they actually had some kind of proof. I couldn't disprove that he was a rapist, but I believe in the whole, "innocent until proven guilty," thing. I'm sure that you have your reasons, and I recognize that you could be 100% correct, but I'm just not going to believe it until someone gives me some kind of proof. There are two reasons why people might not be writing that the NFL is corrupt:
1 - the NFL is corrupt and strong-arms anyone that tries to write about it.
2 - the NFL is not corrupt, so no one has any reason to write about it
I'm gonna have to go with #2 until I can find any reason to believe otherwise.
Alpha Male 05-11-2005, 07:08 PM So you cant write an OP-ED in newspaper saying the NFL is corrupt because if you do it is illegal and the NFL will sue you.
Duh :dunno: ...That's nothing new. It applies to any organization or individual for that matter. When you throw out accusations without any facts, you get sued for that ****. It's called "SLANDER".

It does not have to be slanderous. You not allowed to say anything, in any publication, whether it is positive or negative about the NFL without approval of NFL commisioner Rosenberg. Your not not allowed to mention "NFL' or anything pertaining to the NFL without the express concent of Rosenberg himself. If your going to write articles about how the NFL is corrupt well your not going to get Rosenberg's approval quite obviously.
The Troll 05-11-2005, 08:32 PM Then dont take my word, I said it was up to you whether to do so or not and you have made your descision not to. So that that is that.

Only someone who can't win an argument or is a baby puts people on ignore lists. If you don't have the emotional fortitude and maturity to handle an adult conversation on the internet, don't bother posting and get a babysitter.
The Pretender 05-11-2005, 08:42 PM I dont waste time arguing with people on here anymore who are consciencely liars. People are not that actually interesting in debating things but propagating politcal propaganda. I'd rather just leave these kind of people out of sight and out of mind. Maybe you should join the list of people I have chosen to keep out sight and out of mind pretender. YOu meet alot of the criteria.
And by the way DIO you are the only person who has made to my ignore list up to this point. Your a PR officer for the Federal government or democratic or republican party. Your PR is simply not interesting to me.
Do I hear the X Files theme song?
Boo ****ing hoo. You mean I'm not on the list yet? I'm insulted. Put me on it pronto! And btw, who the hell is gonna seriously debate you...I mean you look about 15 years old!
