I think its somthing against James Toney, people love to hate Toney like they love to hate fighters like Zab Judah. People are rediculous though, the guys a four division champion and all people talk about is how much he weighs.

I dunno. Too many Mexicans hate Ruiz. I don't blame them really.

i dont think that all these ruiz fans are 'real' ruiz fans. they most likely saw how 'the pretender' messed everyone up and how he got under everyone's skin, with his endless ruiz loving and thought that it mite be fun to do it to. That's the only explanation for it cuz it certaintly aint because he;s the best or even one of the best in the world.

I sure don't see many Ruiz fans here. I see myself as the only true Ruiz fan who really appreciates Ruiz as a fighter, champ, and person.

You people are branding anyone that doesn't hate Ruiz as a Ruiz fan. Some of those people simply believe in fair play and justice in boxing. But they don't like Ruiz as a fighter.

And yes a few people are coming on here faking as fans when they aren't. Fake Ruiz fans are the one thing worse than haters.

He punched and hugged his way to some wins....got a gift decision against Golota (Golota beat his ass easily), barely squeaked a victory against a tired old Holyfield and later, when Holy was OLDER, only managed a draw. Rahman has no real ameteur experience and hasn't boxed as long as Ruiz so he had no experience to get out of Ruiz's clinching. Johnson got DQ'd but is far more skilled than Ruiz...but Ruiz has to punch and hold him.

I admit Ruiz started with very little natural born talent but through hard work, heart, courage, and dedication accomplished far more than countless other heavyweights ever did with much more innate ability.

Nothing wrong with clinching in fights. Just like nothing wrong with being a jabbing whore like Lewis. Or running and dancing like Hopkins. You use a style that fits you best and wins you fights. If that makes a boring fight for you, so what. Ruiz out there fighting for himself and his family, not to please you. He has a finite number of years to accomplish things and has to do what he has to do.

If Ruiz is not there to be a boxer but to steal away a potentially great fight by hugging, it's not good for the sport. There's no athleticism in that!

I don't have any problem with people who don't like Ruiz. Everyone should support their favorite fighters for whatever reasons make them happy. I never contest that Ruiz has a unorthodox style, some say very boring, but boxing is also about what we as fans appreciate in these atheletes. Myself, I like underdogs and those who accomplish great things in the face of adversity and long odds. Plus its a bonus that Ruiz happens to be a genuinely humble down to earth guy in real life, not an arrogant loud mouth prick like most pro fighters these days. Just look at his website and photo galleries where he shares pics of his family and himself from a baby to adolescense to adulthood.

Eventually Ruiz will lose the belt and his career will end, but I'm sure he only hopes he goes out like a champ and the winner beats him fairly. It'll be a great day for you but a sad day for me. For now, I enjoy Ruiz being successful.

I don`t like Ruiz but i have to admit he gets the job done. The Golota fight could have gone either way, he beat Rahman fair and square, Fres Oquendo was stopped and he got the better of Holyfield and Kirk Johnson. He is luckly with the James Toney situation but love or hate him, John Ruiz is making a habbit of staying champ!
