I know it has been posted several times but this confirms reports of it actually being a ANABOLIC steroid.

NEWS FLASH
Newsday: Toney tests positive!
Newly crowned WBA heavyweight champion James Toney has reportedly tested positive for an anabolic steroid in a post-fight drug test. According to longtime boxing writer Wallace Matthews of Newsday, Toney's promoter Dan Goossen was informed Monday night by the New York State Athletic Commission that Toney had "tested positive for a banned substance that is not a narcotic." The paper quotes another source as saying the substance was nandrolone. If this report is accurate, the bout would be declared a no contest, and John Ruiz, who came out of retirement yesterday, would stand to regain his former WBA crown. Toney's attorney Nicholas Kahn suggested that Toney may have been prescribed something he didn't know was illegal by his personal physician. Stay tuned.

What did I tell you about the excuse being "prescribed"

Toney tested positive for nandrolone:

The drug known as nandrolone (also known commercially as Deca-Durabolin) has the IUPAC name 17b-hydroxy-19-nor-4-andro-sten-3-one, and is an anabolic steroid (a muscle-building chemical) which occurs naturally in the human body, but only in tiny quantities. It is very similar in structure to the male hormone testosterone, and has many of the same effects in terms of increasing muscle mass, without some of the more unwanted side-effects such as increased body hair or aggressive behaviour. As such, it is being actively examined in clinical tests as a possible treatment for wasting diseases, and to strengthen and increase body tissue and musculature in HIV infected men. In this form it is usually injected in its decanoate form, after first being dissolved in a suitable edible oil.

Also what the hell was Toney thinking that is the easiest and most common steroid to test positive for. That guy is a certified dumb ****.

I watch his fights but I usually fall asleep. But hell no, I hate watching him fight...but continue to because of the " curious what will happen next" factor.

I am just irritated in nobody giving him respect despite his ugly style most heavyweights today are ugly and boring.

Roids do nothing but harm in boxing......

Well maybe Roy Jones should use them in his case they can do good. They have steroids to enhance your reflexes, I bet nobody will care if Jones did though.

Toney needs to make a statement and be honest and not play the "My doctor prescribed them to me" typical pro athlete bull****. Admit your mistake and be forgiven and move on.

Id be quicker to forget if an athlete admitted straight out than if he denied it with excuses.

His heavyweight win will become void and he will probably never make it into the Hall of Fame.

I still cant believe he tested for one of the most commonly tested steroids....Toney is a cheap ass, you can find that type lying in the streets for free.

Damn, vdiary, your sig picture was practically prophetic.

This sucks. I understand jinx's comments about Ruiz but I wa sreally glad when Toney won and things were starting to come together right in the heavyweight division. I guess there can still be a unified champ, but damn, like the most personable guy might be out of the running.

Get your facts straight Ruiz retired soon as he made it to the locker room that night. He "unretired" before the statement was made, is that Ruiz's fault even if he had gotten an inside note? No it isnt...Dont try to turn this around on Ruiz, he did the best thing. He was cheated and deserves a fair shake.

Toney was a Hall OF Famerer way before he ever came to heavyweight.

He was the P4P best fighter in the world in 91 and fighter of the year.

This hurts him, but not as bad as your saying.

Rightfully so, I believe if Byrd was going to put his name on the contract to fight Toney then perhaps he should fight Ruiz then for the heavyweight championship?

Steroids are all over boxing and any other pro sport. Thats beside the point. What is stupid is that he took Deca. Deca is one of the most common roids out there; easily detected. On top of that, you can test positve for it for like a year after you take it I think. Not the drug of choice for drug tested athletes. Very very stupid choice

Man you haters are ****ing retards. Get it through your nuthugging fairweather heads: Ruiz is the most formiddable fighter in boxing other than Vitali.

That's why every HW champ ducks Ruiz and only middleweights step up to fight him.

That's why even a fighter like Toney with a great record feels he must juice to have an edge on Ruiz. That speaks for itself.

Ruiz is a great fighter. Pull your head out your asses.

lets get sumthing straight with u loser ruiz dick sukers. no way did toney take steroids for this fight, first of all if he did he wud never take deca becoz its easily detectable and his training camp isnt stupid, they wud give him sum russian undetectabloe drug with all their money. and i bet u ruiz gave sum to toney before the fight so if he lost it wud be a loss for toney. and didnt youse read the fukin article, it says it cud be due to quik dehydration and heavy training. so shut ur mouth. even if toney took roids, they shudnt give the belt back to dat loser ruiz, hes a gay *** who hugs cunts to get horny, he shud be banned

I can't believe this freakin news!!! Yesterday it was, John Ruiz coming out of retirement and today "James Toney tests positive for steroids!" What a roller coaster ride it has been for both fighters. For John Ruiz, first losing his title to Toney, then retiring prematurely, and coming out of retirement. And after all is said and done, he'll probably retain his title! For Toney, it was winning against Ruiz and becoming the third middleweight fighter to move up and win the heavyweight title, scheduling a bout with Byrd to unify the IBF and WBA titles, and now testing positive for steroids giving himself and boxing a "black eye" just after the sport of baseball was having the same problems.

Super_Lightweight

They have steroids to enhance your reflexes, I bet nobody will care if Jones did though.

I doubt that. People have been all over Jones for when he tested positive for Ripped Fuel or nasal spray or whatever it was when he fought Hall (Hall had twice the amount of "steroids" Jones had in his system for that fight btw).

In any case, Jones I think is concussion prone in his old age and especially after all those rabbit punches from Tarver (look at the abnormal swelling on the back of Roy's head after the first fight) so I don't think reflexes are his only problem now.
