i don't think corrale takeing out his mouthpiece changed the outcome but i'm concerned about it becoming a common tactic in fights. should they change the rules back to the '50s when the mouthpiece stayed out and the fight proceeded uninterupted? should the ref call time and take two points off? should the offender be disqualified? corrales didnt look that hurt but he did gain 11 to twenty extra seconds and weeks did take a point away.

i think they should... unless the mouthpiece is taken out due to a punch

I was thinking that the rules might be changed as well. I'm not one of the people who is trashing Corrales because of what he did but at the same time now that it's out that this can be a good tactic, like you said other fighters might try it.

Could end up being known as the Corrales rule.

if you don't think the additional 20+ seconds helped corrales after the 2nd kd and changed the outcome you are nuts. when he had 30 seconds to recover and see and hear the concern of his corner it made a huge difference. if he had to go straight back to the action i believe castillo would have knocked him out. the last time he took it out he deliberately threw it away ffrom himself. imo he should have been dq'd. i like both fighters equally and would have been happy with either fighter winning. i just think the way this fight was won does not show that the winner was truely a better fighter.

He should of been disqualified for deliberately taking out his mouthpiece. Or if a mouthpiece comes out then the fight should continue, boxing is not balley FFS, it's war!

it came out a second time and Corrales WAS punished...

Corrales learned that from his last opponent, Acelino Freitas.

I don't think the problem is with the mouthpiece but with how boxing's rules are set-up. You can break the rules for so long before you get punished. Look at how many low blows or holding and hitting fouls happen before a point is taken...if one is ever taken. If you have ever been hit below the belt, like on the hip or the sciatic nerve...the five minute recovery time is not enough at all. And the point is rarely taken off. I think in every area boxing could make the punishment for the rules for severe and quicker. In other sports if you accidentally break a rule it rarely matters. Imagine how much cleaner and more exciting boxing would be if a point was taken away for holding or hitting below the belt as soon as it happened.

True, but this one is going to be built up into more of a legend in the future.

i think it definately helped chico....

i think they should stand by the rule to only put the mouthpiece back in at a lull in the action.... after a knockdown should not be considered a lull in the action... if they dont stop to put the mouthpiece back in after a KD, guys will stop using this tactic....

I think its fine, a warning, a point deduction and then DQ. weeks did the right thing, its just like holding, holding is technically against the rules but every fight there is holding, you cant have things perfect.
