Obviously without moderation peanut butter would be bad. But what about peanut butter in a boxers diet if its kept at a moderate level? It seems to me like a tastey and good way to get protein. Any help would be good

Have it in moderation cause it containts LOADS of calories. 100g of peanuts on their own are nearly 600 calories. afb14 01-28-2010, 04:09 PM Nothing is terrible in moderation, but peanut butter is actually a pretty low source of protein because of the total amount of fat (although can be healthy fat for natural peanut butter) typically accounting for under 20% of the total calories per serving. One more round 01-28-2010, 07:14 PM Go for the reduced fat peanut butter Phenomkidd 01-28-2010, 08:37 PM Its good stuff, take it just make sure you know what you're taking in and what weight you want to maintain if you plan on eating a lot of it. Don Flamenco 01-28-2010, 10:15 PM i eat it with grape-nuts or some other kind of cereal before my workouts. Sometimes I eat Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches with whole wheat bread, but then again, I'm not trying to lose weight. My biggest problem is eating enough calories throughout the day. Can't believe Americans eat that **** Phenomkidd 01-29-2010, 09:55 AM i know its high in fat but mens health treats it like the promise food. was even in "foods you can't have enough of" but that is for good health, not good training/boxing. You just made no sense at all. If its good health why would it have a bad effect on boxing? The only negative thing is the calories but its decent source of protein and EFAs. Double Jab 01-29-2010, 12:57 PM Short answer is at bottom of post. Long answer is: Most peanut butter has the serving size at 2 tablespoons, and roughly does 16 g's of fat, and 14 g's "good" fat (only a slight bit, maybe 1-2 g's of it saturated fat, which the body doesnt process in a very beneficial way), 8 g's of carbs, and 8 g's of protein. While the protein quality is pretty good, if you are trying to either lose weight or stay in a certain calorie range (which is me), it has worked for me as an occasional add on to basic foods. Two of my favorite snacks are an apple with 1 tablespoon of peanut butter, which is great for energy as well as semi filling with the fiber of the apple skin and only about 200 calories. Just cut apple slices and wipe some peanut butter on them. Also, 1 tablespoon of peanut butter with a piece of high fiber bread. Both of these have worked amazingly for me for both late night cravings at around 9 pm, and early midday snack around 12-1. Tasty, decently satisfying, and not that many calories. Short answer: If you used peanut butter for protein, and if you only did 50 g's of protein from it, which isn't much at all, you would be recieving ~106 g's of fat. You can be the judge if that is either beneficial or harmful to you. Flab 01-29-2010, 12:58 PM Peanut butter makes your dick grow. :?!: *starts on a tub of peanut butter* Don Flamenco 01-29-2010, 03:14 PM Can't believe Americans eat that **** We're not called "fat Americans" for nothing =) Tsukiyomi 01-29-2010, 03:55 PM *starts on a tub of peanut butter* :haha: Peanut butter is the first thing recommended to people who want to put on weight. FalconsRB 01-29-2010, 07:32 PM I love it but I'm allergic to it. peewee1460 01-29-2010, 07:37 PM Peanut butter is a good source of fat and a decent source of protein. the key with it, like almost everything else, is moderation. Go for the reduced fat peanut butter jiff reduced fat peanut butter has just as many calories per serving as regular. DJWho 02-02-2010, 03:31 AM National peanut butter is very good for you JoHnNyBoXeR 02-02-2010, 11:20 PM Peanut butter is great for me.. If Im eating whatever I want and training Ill be about 160.. If I watch what I eat and only eat real healthy I make my 152 lbs.. Alot of times Ill eat a Peanut Butter sandwich before training on wheat bread.. I wouldn't eat it at night if Im training for a tourny but I would eat it for breakfast or before the gym ADozenArrows 02-03-2010, 01:31 PM No No No No No. Peanut Butter is not a health food, I don't care what anyone says. A "tastey and good way" to get protein would be a can of beans. Man up. The Surgeon 02-03-2010, 03:40 PM Im quite into weight lifting right now and i find a teaspoon or 2 of Peanut butter before bed is good, its a slow realeasing protien perfect for while u sleep the nite away |
