View Full Version : Fight of the Year

there is no way any fight this year will be as good as the one i just witness. Many people beleive the Floyd vs. Gatti will take fight of the year but that will just end up being a boxing clinic put on by Floyd. Corrales and JLC just went to war. Although i would have liked to see the fight continue, I think JLC would have just been hurt more, which is not what you want to happen to a great fighter. Where does this put both fighters in the P4P rankings?

I really dont know. Pretty damn high. JLC was already ranked really high on my list, but corrales ranks up there now. The way These two fought tonight was different than Gatti V.S. Ward. These two are highly skilled, and showed the same resolve.

Good damn question. I dont like those kinds of lists, because fighters are always underestimated and left out.

i alreayd had castillo in the top 5 because of his level of opposition.....so now corrales is up there. I think corrales might have locked up fighter of the year.....or maybe its gonna be castillo?..corrales beat castillo and freitas the best in the division.......so I think he locked up fighter of the year alreayd

They will both go in the hall of fame cuz of this battle

and I really feel honored to have Corrales from my hometown...

If Freitas continued he could've been in Castillo or Corrales's place...even if you dont win, dont mean u discgraced...

I would love to see a rematch

This was not just fight of the year, no **** it was lol...but I think it would be the best fight ever since Hagler-Hearns, maybe even better..

Fight of the Year, no doubt.

With regards to the P4P ranking, i dunno. If Castillo finished Corrales in the 10th round, he would've been probably 5th or 6th P4P, but he lost. With regards to Chico, he won but he was knocked down twice, which shows his chin is still suspect and doesn't deserve a P4P status.

Remember, Gatti-Ward fights were great, but that didn't make them P4P best fighters in the sport.

When I heard this fight was made,I automaticly thought this is a sure bet Fight of the Year Candidate. There's alot of interesting fights coming up,but I doubt any of them will be able to top Corrales-Castillo.

This fight was tactical, but a VERY brutal one, both had gameplans, but also traded while at it....

This will go in the books as one of the greatest and it is trilogy material...

It will beat Graziano-Zale...

This fight is the best we've had this millennium by far, it would be interesting to see how it compares to the big fights of yesteryear.

Amazing, simply amazing.....I couldn't believe my eyes. This may be because it's fresh in my mind, but I think that was most incredible fight I have ever seen. How bout Joe Goosen telling Chico "you better ****in get his ass now" after the second knockdown and the point taken for spitting out the mouthpiece. I thought it was over at that point. Chico showed great resolve. I think the referee owed Castillo a couple more seconds before he stopped it. No doubt he was hurt, and I can see why he stepped in...but Castillo always looks bad when hit with clean shots. His neck isn't strong at all, his head is always snapping when he's hit. Anyway....kudos to both guys, very well spoken and nice people as well as shown in the post fight interview. This is what boxing should be, they are great examples of why we love the sport.

The reason why these two are the best two warriors, is because of the way they ate huge bombs from eachother. Look at Barrera V.S. Morales, or Morales V.S. Pac...they never really connected with huge staggering punches that made each other disco dance like this fight. Yes the fights were exciting....but no where near the drama in this one.

They were literally killing eachother. They were fighting in close quarters the entire god damn time. Nothing but an all out war from these guys. Not a technical thing about this fight, just attempted murder from the two.

Because Corrales got knocked down he doesn't DESERVE a p4p status?

I guess we can take Pacquiao, Mayweather, Ali, Louis, Robinson, Hearns out of the list...

Yeah, that's like saying Vida can't have one of the best asses because her ass cheeks are too big. That's what we should appreciate most! Like Corrales ability to get off the canvas after he looked done, to finish off a great fighter. In the same round no less.

You're missing the point bro. The point why I'm not making Chico P4P is not just because of the knockdowns but because he just didn't impress me that much. I was overly impressed by his courage and heart but not so much by his skill and chin. A decent puncher in the 135 lb. division would've had a chance to KO Chico and take away that P4P status.

And before you start calling people stupid, why don't you wear your hat properly and stop taking a **** in front of the camera.

I'm saying that I hope there isnt a rematch cause its not worth it, the only rematchs that should be made is Casamayor/Mayweather, or let Castillo rematch Casamayor in Miami to see who gets one.

well, i think you do have a point here.... a KO is a KO and a very convincing win, probably he may not have a point to prove anymore. casamayor is better "career option" rather than mayweather.

Yup, in the middle of the 6th round, without absolutely no idea what the outcome was going to be, I starting thinking that it is going to take an incredible fight during the remaining of the year to top this one. I think that Hagler/Hearns is one of the best fights ever and this one tops it, IMHO. Not as intense as the first round of The War, but the sustained amount of traded bombs over the lenth of the fight ... wow.

edit ... I got a little confused which of these threads I was reading ... either way though, fight of the year or one of the best of all time, it's the same to me with this fight.

I like Castillo in a rematch due to the fact that his chin is better;
Castillo just allowed his chin to be worn by not fighting at all a tactical fight. Castillo will dominate the fight from the outside and go inside on occation and pick his shot on corrales and TKO him in 8 or 9
