View Full Version : Did MouthPiece Trick Save Chico?
forget all the other times because he was still alright but the last time was different. On that last knock down he was really hurt but those extra few seconds gave him some time and he seemed like he was alright after that. I could be wrong but I actually think that those 15 seconds or so was the difference in this fight because if he wouldve went straight back in after that last knock down I think Castillo may have dropped him again and the ref wouldve stopped it. Hard to tell though

It definitely helped him. But the ref took a point. What else could he do? Chico, if anything, did the smart thing knowing he could come back if he needed to, and that's exactly what he did.
Konstantin 05-07-2005, 11:43 PM Yea I also think that he needed those extra couple seconds but the ref took a point away so it was definatly accounted for.
.::|ULTIMATE|::. 05-07-2005, 11:43 PM It definitely helped him and he should have made chico fight without the piece.
Even the one point penalty took time from Castillo. He did the mouthpiece trick twice in that round he got KDed in. The first time he was hella hurt but the ref still called time.
ottoevans 05-07-2005, 11:44 PM yeah that was bulls**t
Hurlex 05-07-2005, 11:45 PM heel yeah he acted like a ***** doing that. Next time (rematch) i see Castillo ko'ing him,mouth piece or not. It gave him extra seconds to rest.
....**** yeah it saved him. Smart fighter with a smart corner. I wish Wlad was that smart and had a corner that smart!!!
Tha Greatest 05-07-2005, 11:45 PM Hell Ya It Helped Him!!
Alpha Male 05-07-2005, 11:46 PM It helped him, but even after the second time, Corrales was taking some serious shots. So, Castillo could've still KO'ed him, but he ran out gas and got caught.
SuckaPunch 05-07-2005, 11:47 PM Hell yah, but I think it's a very smart strategy on his part, considering he knows that he's gonna have a point deducted.
He followed his head and finished with his heart.
GO CHICO!!!
bonafuwa 05-07-2005, 11:47 PM The mouthpiece thing definitely helped Chico. Him saying he only wanted ti hold it and put it back in but it fell was total bull****, but I am sooo glad he won.
Definitely the best fight I have ever seen. Definitely the most dramatic round I have ever seen. Rematch anyone?

I think it helped him but that boxing, he didnt do anything illegal, its kind of like a foul in basketball, you get penalized and keep going, smart move for Chico you do what you have to do to win, low blow, hold, run, head bunt, elbow, as long as its not in eccess then you loose via D.Q. .
mic573 05-07-2005, 11:53 PM Yes it helped him but I think the fight should of been stopped after the second knockdown especially since he took four clean shots before going down.
SnoopySmurf 05-07-2005, 11:58 PM Chico hadn't yet recovered from the first knockdown, and he had to get his mouth piece back in. Total of about 20 seconds from the KD to Goosen shoving the mouth piece back in. But Chico was still wobbly and knew he'd take another KD to recover. He got hit, he went down and spit his mouth piece out. More precious seconds added when the Ref had to take Chico to each judge for the deduction. About 25 seconds or more.
That's almost a whole minute. Tactical move. Take the KD to recover and KO his opponent...coz he knew he was hurt too.
rayman8282001 05-07-2005, 11:58 PM The second time chico got knocked down i counted 20 seconds before the action was resumed. that should not of happen. he would have been knocked out if he only had 9.
drez24 05-07-2005, 11:59 PM It helped him. You gotta give credit to Chico's corner too, they knew what the score was... Weeks kept going "come on! come on! put it in!!" and the corner was taking their sweet ass time. Very smart.
SnoopySmurf 05-08-2005, 12:02 AM They sorta took a page from Angelo Dundee when he tore a whole into Cassius Clay's gloves so Cassius could recover from the KD he got from the Hammer.
Gonzalo 05-08-2005, 12:08 AM What a little *****, throwing out his mouth pice twice. The ref should have stoped the fight after he through out his mouth piece for the second time. Those extra seconds robbed Castillo.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~This is ****en bulls**t~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Castillo will win in a rematch.
This is fight of the year hands down.
Ricomania77 05-08-2005, 12:13 AM the mouthpiece trick definitely saved Corrales. He needed the extra time to recover from the first knockdown. A rematch is in order for this one
the mouthpiece trick helped him of course, but his heart won the fight. This was a great fight by both guys. No contoversies here. The ref took points away from Diego for the mp trick, and Chico went out and ko'ed Castillo. I hope people don't start fishing for excuses and conspiracy theories with this fight. Let's just enjoy a great fight between two true champs and look forward to the rematch.
Soldier01 05-08-2005, 12:26 AM heel yeah he acted like a ***** doing that. Next time (rematch) i see Castillo ko'ing him,mouth piece or not. It gave him extra seconds to rest.
He acted like a *****?? What would you have done. That's what you call ring savvy. Freitas did the same **** against him. You can't say he's a ***** until you see yourself in the same predicament. Keep the name calling at a minimum. Whose to say that Castillo wouldn't have done the same.
SnoopySmurf 05-08-2005, 12:29 AM In the rematch, Corrales better listen to his trainer and box. That inside fighting against Castillo was risky.
alliberg26 05-08-2005, 12:37 AM What stinks is that Corrales will not give Castillo a rematch.It took too much negotiations for Corrales to fight Castillo and I'll bet he will never fight him again...He got a lucky punch and a ref that look out for him throughout the fight,,,,
vizcaya 05-08-2005, 12:38 AM If Corrales had the mindset to drop the mouthpeice, then he was not that hurt, maybe stunned. He did do it on purpose, but that meant he knew what he was doing. Castillo was out of the building when he was hurt.
Trinidad has been known to throw low blows when he has been hurt, (against Vargas), Barrera threw a lunging headbut against Pacquiao, those fouls are worse than what Corrales did.
It was Castillo's fault for coming in and allowing Corrales to nail him with 4 left hooks. Castillo should have been a bit more cautious when trying to close the the show. A hurt fighter is a dangerous fighter.
Um...the ref didn't look out for him man, sorry. He took a point from Corrales for spitting out his mouthpiece a second time. After two knockdowns, that made it a 3 point round in favor of Castillo. The ref didn't know Chico was going to kick the **** out of Castillo after he got up. I'm sure he thought it was almost over just like the Castillo nuthuggers.
tongpo2000 05-08-2005, 12:41 AM that was an amazing fight. too bad there has to be questions
about the mouth piece, but maybe thats what will bring us a
rematch.
I don't really want to say anything bad about either fighter but Corrales seemed like he didn't really want to go at it again.
LOL, Castillo got mauled at the end and Chico is the one that doesn't want a rematch? Castillo needs to go get his brain examined before any rematch to make sure he's safe to fight.
he learned that one from freitas
Hurlex 05-08-2005, 12:47 AM smart was spitting it out when he got wobbled...smart may have the first KD....reaching into his mouth making it obvious he was takign it out and saying it fell by accident when we see him let go is acting liek a *****..smart ok..call i what u want..but it was still the ***** way out. just like Dlh running from tito,just like freitas quitting etc...
Corrales will be owned in the rematch and before u say its cuz i am mexican (i am not so yeah) dude dont use that excuse with me..its just the truth...smart yes...but iwas was acting like a lil-*****.
Lucky punch?? WTF are you talking about? When it coms to boxing there's no think as a lucky punch, That what makes boxing such a great sport. 1 Punch can make the difference in a fight. That would be real disrespectful if you say that Corrales laned a lucky punch. He hurted Castillo several times late in the rounds with a punch.
Well, it may have been underhanded but ya gotta admit, the strategy worked. I think the rematch will not live up to the excitement this one had. Corrales will box from a distance and win on points.
LOL. I don't think it's as *****y as Freitas quitting. You're really reaching with that sore-loser comment. If Castillo was so great, he wouldn't have any problem with it. Please don't try to make excuses. It doesn't make Castillo look bad, he is a true warrior. However, it makes you look like a sore-ass loser who probably has never even been in a fight and doesn't know what it feels like to be hurt. Castillo lost to the smarter, more powerful fighter. Bring on the rematch!! IMO Chico fought a bad fight in that he did not fight from the outside like he is best at. He fought Castillo's fight and still knocked him out. Nuff said.
Soldier01 05-08-2005, 12:58 AM In the rematch, Corrales better listen to his trainer and box. That inside fighting against Castillo was risky.
I agree, Everytime he fought Castillo on thr outside he would catch him lovely. I didn't understand why he was deciding to fight on the inside.
Manny_P 05-08-2005, 01:01 AM I see Castillo fans are really upset and makin laughable excuses. Great fight, Corrales deserved the stoppage.
analyst 05-08-2005, 01:04 AM On the 2nd knockdown, the ref counted to 9 & gave a point deduction for spitting out the mouthpiece. i just saw the fight again & Chico had an extra 20-25 seconds, not including the 9 seconds counted for the knockdown.
Hurlex 05-08-2005, 01:08 AM yeah not taking anything away from it it was still a good fight it just seemed liek it should have ended differently or atleast have let castillo hit the canvas and see if he could not have continued. I dont think the rematch will be as good since now they both know they cna hurt each other bad,but it will be great anyway. Best fight since Gatti-Ward...both Warriors..,there fans have nothing to be ashamed of.
Im as big a fan as you are. Making two excuse threads is lame man. Just wait for the rematch.
Brilliantly said! Couldnt have said it better myself. You gotta give both fighters all the credit in the world Chico took a chance for all his fans and gave them a beautiful brawl fighting Castillo inside when he could of scored easier fighting him from the outside. Castillo got a couple of low blows in and got proper warning from the ref, Chico used the mouthpiece trick and got the proper point deduction.....it was obviously a war so you cant say Chico took the ***** way out. And if youre saying Chico wont give him the rematch(which hopefully he will) you cant really blame him he was supposed to get Castillo when Casamayor got him and he took this fight for ****y pay(for his stature of recognition) I respect Chico all the way, he took this fight for the fans, Castillos and his own(thank you Chico and Castillo!)If youre a true Castillo fan you should be happy the ref stopped the fight(He would of done the same for Chico), one more punch could of killed or seriously injured him and we wouldnt have been able to be blessed with another fight from this true champion. I take my hat off to both fighters and thank them for the best fight Ive ever seen, they both have all my respect.
you are correct about the rematch but its people like u that give castillo fans a bad rep...it was not a lucky punch..
