View Full Version : Who is the weakest Heavyweight champ in history?
Living Legend 05-05-2005, 11:48 PM I say chris byrd...when I think of a heavy weight champ, I think of ali, liston, marciano, tyson, holmes, foreman etc...I'm used to heavywieght champs being the biggest and the baddest...You know when they step in the ring someone is going to get beat the f**k up...!!! :boxing:

You would pick byrd over ruiz?
Tha Greatest 05-06-2005, 12:22 AM I agree with the guy who started the thread
When I think of HW's I think Louis, Tyson, Ali, Lewis, Marciano, Dempsey, etc.
Byrd does not fit in that category:D
Foreman 05-06-2005, 12:34 AM Leon Spinks, Michael Spinks, Bruce Seldon, Lennox Lewis, Frank Bruno, Trevor Berbick etc...
The Fix 05-06-2005, 12:54 AM Leon Spinks, Michael Spinks, Bruce Seldon, Lennox Lewis, Frank Bruno, Trevor Berbick etc...
lennox lewis? his right was an all time great punch. he was a very good champion.
with the exception of lewis and micheal spinks i would agree with your list. spinks was a decent champ def not on seldons level.
Subwayboy 05-06-2005, 01:06 AM i remember watch Lewis/Tyson and thinking that Lewis straight right had a good amount of sting to it
The Fix 05-06-2005, 01:08 AM i remember watch Lewis/Tyson and thinking that Lewis straight right had a good amount of sting to it
most def, that punch had some pop to it. and lewis used it well too
the giant one 05-06-2005, 02:55 AM Pinklon Thomas. He looked downright sickly in the ring
loangunZ 05-06-2005, 03:06 AM yea how brewster was ever blessed with a title is beyond me but I'm sure he won't have it for long haha even he was suprised he won it
well i must say Ruiz because i expect a champion to box not wrestle.
marvdave 05-06-2005, 10:53 AM Leon Spinks and Bruce Seldon by far
makes Brewster look like Tyson
Frans Botha I believed held a piece of the alphabet for a very short time.
GuyIncogito 05-06-2005, 12:12 PM I'll put a vote in for big Johnny Ruiz.
SacTown1 05-06-2005, 12:42 PM BRUCE SELDON, hands down, worst "champ" in history
Bruno #2, Botha #3, Ruiz #4
jatt the ripper 05-06-2005, 12:44 PM Lewis should never have been even mentioned when asking who was the weakness. He was a great.
Foreman 05-06-2005, 01:12 PM Fix, I just wanted to see if anyone was paying attention when I slipped Lewis in there. :D
AintGottaClue 05-06-2005, 01:28 PM Lewis blows i ahte him, flame flame flame. booo lewis :firedevil :firedevil
marvdave 05-06-2005, 01:31 PM Lewis blows i ahte him, flame flame flame. booo lewis :firedevil :firedevil
from what I understand, Lewis does blow :luvbed: :D ...but he was a great fighter
anybody who said lennox lewis is a dumb ass..lennox lewis beats any heavyweight ever 2 outta 3 times too big too strong too smart...back to the topic..weakest heavyweights - john ruiz ingamar johannson floyd paterson heavyweights post-jack johnson

too big? too smart? he fought small dumbasses
Dynamite76 05-07-2005, 06:11 AM Either John Tate, Greg Page, or Tony Tubbs.
Imira 05-07-2005, 06:59 AM Definitely Lennox Lewis, Lamon Brewster, WK.
I'm curious though, why do people say Michael Spinks? He had enough ability to make 3 title defences before it was stripped from him (Sancioning body BS). He never lost his title in the ring and the only fighter to a) beat him b)knock him down and c) knock him out was Tyson in his prime. I guess it's just opinion, but I'm just curious...

maybe not but he is far from the worst
TheGreat1 05-07-2005, 07:24 AM Definitely Lennox Lewis, Lamon Brewster, WK.

are you serious with saying LL?
Kimmy 05-07-2005, 08:52 AM I agree with an earlier mention of Bruce Seldon being the weakest champ. He won his title on a cut against an old Tony Tucker, beat one of the worse heavyweight challengers in history in Joe Hipp then got nailed in one round by, a past his best Mike Tyson. Seldon is certainly weak!
Warden11 05-07-2005, 10:45 AM Lamon Brewster
Agreed but, I think you should give him a chance to see what he can do with it first. You never know maybe some totally different fighter will emerge now that hes champ.
I dont think this will happen but its just a little soon to be putting him on this list dont you think?
The Troll 05-07-2005, 10:51 AM Chris Byrd is probably the weakest heavyweight champion in terms of pysical strenght. However that of course does not mean he is the worst heavyweight champion ever by any means. I will take John Ruiz as being the least talented heavyweight champion ever, however the guy did make 4 defences, so there were probably worse guys.
Worst Undisputed Champion Ever, would be an interesting topic, my vote goes to Sonny Liston for the dive he took against Ali, even though if he did not take the dive, supposedly the mafia threatened to eat his children or whatever, but he probably did it just for money, betting against himself to loose a 1st round KO the odds were probably like 1-30 on LIston loosing ViA KO in round 1, especially since the public hated Clay.
marvdave 05-07-2005, 12:07 PM Definitely Lennox Lewis, Lamon Brewster, WK.

Micheal Spinks was one of the best light heavy champs ever. He won two controversial decisions against old man Holmes.( no way he won the second Holmes fight, #1 was close) He beat Steffan Tangstad and Drunk Cooney. Not exactly great. He was a good heavyweight at best. I find it curious how you would question anyone saying Spinks, but then saying Lewis is one of the worst? That's nuts!
paul750 05-07-2005, 12:14 PM people shouldn't discriminate aganist bryd just because of his style, the fact is byrd has been very succesfull and hs made many defences of his title, he certainly isn't one of the weakest champs in history, i think bryd would have given a lot of former champions very tough fights with his style, the same way as jimmy young gave foreman problems, i think bruce seldon has got to be at the top of the list in terms of being the weakest champ

It's not nuts to me. Lewis was boring and unimposing at times.

Is it? :p

can't argue with that logic. :D
Lennox Lewis was an above average Heavyweight who would be a tough match up for any Heavyweight. We will have to agree to disagree, becuase I think Lewis was both exciting and imposing in the ring.
Brz_Pugilist 05-07-2005, 05:06 PM Is this even a tough ?,hello Johny Ruiz :D
realheavyhands 05-07-2005, 07:35 PM marciano fought in the weakest era ever ..he was the only prime good fighter...not his fault tho..but he should of lost to moore he was saved by the ref
MetalVomit 05-07-2005, 09:42 PM I say chris byrd...when I think of a heavy weight champ, I think of ali, liston, marciano, tyson, holmes, foreman etc...I'm used to heavywieght champs being the biggest and the baddest...You know when they step in the ring someone is going to get beat the f**k up...!!! :boxing:
Does Lamon Brewster count? If so, he's the worst hw champ ever.
Atwa_66 05-07-2005, 10:37 PM Lamon Brewster, Chris Byrd, and John Ruiz. Not that Ruiz is weak, but he is a sloppy fighter, and doesn't deserve to be in the ring with some of the people he fights.
