never did any calisthenics?

I got his workout routine and this is it:

6 minutes of shadowboxing
10 minutes on the speed bag
12 minutes on the floor-to-ceiling bag
6 minutes of shadowboxing
10 minutes on the heavy bag
15 minutes of skipping
medicine ball hits

Seems odd that he didn't any push-ups or sit-ups.

Does anyone have any info on this?

A fighters "workout routine" usually changes and the ones posted in those books are probably just sample of what Ray may have done one day before onlookers at a gym. He obviously did calisthenics.

If what you posted is his routine he did all the time....Where's the sparring? Why didn't ray spar? There's no running in there either, I guess he never did roadwork too......

yea a fighter routine is different all the time.

He had to do some form of conditioning though, or he wouldnt have been as great as he became.

I heard, and if I remember right it was about Sugar Ray, that when he was a young fighter, he was getting a ride somewhere and his trainer made him walk. Matter of fact his trainer made walk everywhere for weeks. The idea was that it would condition his legs and more importantly improve his balance.

Also when he retired that first time he became a profesional dancer. When he made his come back he admitted it helped alot with foot movement and other skills.

WOW that is great info I've seen old videos of him dancing and thought he had some serious skills but everything you said makes so much sense b/c the man seemed to always know where he was in the ring and his legs never gave out. Good comment

Yep, also when Sugar Ray Leonard asked Robinson if he could give him any advice Robinson told him to walk as much as he could because he believed it improved his balance greatly. Don't know if Leonard actually listened to him though.

I've seen the footage of him running and sparring, before. I guess the person who originally posted that routine probably left those parts out.

My main question is, did he do push-ups or sit-ups? I just find it odd that he didn't do any ground calisthenics.

I thought he was a tap-dancer from the beginning of his career, I seem to read somewhere how he credit alot of his movement to Tap-dancing.

I read a biography about Ray called "Sweet Thunder" and I'm pretty sure I read that george gainford had fighters do pushups on their knuckles

he mentioned calisthenics in that video posted above. he probably did all the exercises fighters usually do, just with his signature intensity and style
