Spartacus Sully 01-22-2010, 05:45 AM well the strength of your wrist improves punching not necessiarly the size. like if you punch some one and your wrist folds....well since your not trying to fold your wrist it requires alot of force to make it fold and alot of force is lost from your punch. grip srength and wrist strength has to do with punching to a point but most the time size has little to do with anything in boxing. cameronpaul 01-22-2010, 07:06 AM i think body type in total has to do with what punches would favour you. tommy hearn's long thin arms and frame gave him a great right hand to the head, while ricky hattons short stout frame gave him some nasty close range body shots. its overall physics that account for the power rather than how big particular muscles are. orthough i think training the forarms might stiffen the shot on impact, diggin a bit harder and also prevent from wrist injury. alza1988 01-22-2010, 07:22 AM I was thinking of buying these . Spartacus Sully 01-22-2010, 07:55 AM I was thinking of buying these . among the things tunney did specifically to improve himself for the dempsey match strengthening his wrists was one of them using hand grippers amongst other things. alza1988 01-22-2010, 08:18 AM among the things tunney did specifically to improve himself for the dempsey match strengthening his wrists was one of them using hand grippers amongst other things. Yep I do fingertip-pushups as well as grippers . It helps punch harder and more accurate Mares 01-22-2010, 10:49 AM my left hand is broken... i wish i shoulda focus on strengthening it before. :nonono: alza1988 01-22-2010, 11:21 AM my left hand is broken... i wish i shoulda focus on strengthening it before. :nonono: I'm going to work on more grip strength to avoid hand injuries infact because my gloves are starting to wear down a bit .Thank's for heads up . Punching power ain't about forearm size, it's from the back, hips and legs ie: technique. F l i c k e r 01-22-2010, 04:15 PM Forearm muscle has alot to do with punching power. The size of it really doesn't matter. Bruce Lee had squirrel sized arms but he packed the punch of a heavyweight. Power comes from the back. You have a broad back... You have awesome power. All the kayo artists in boxing, what do they all have in common? Crazy strong back muscles. One more round 01-22-2010, 04:44 PM Forearm muscle has alot to do with punching power. Yeah, broad back long arms+ height generally helps you get leverage onto the long straight shots....check Tommy Hearnshttp://s2.hubimg.com/u/345841_f260.jpg Alexis Arguello http://*********.com/images/article_images/1650.jpg http://static.boxrec.com/wiki/thumb/7/71/Foster.Bob.jpg/180px-Foster.Bob.jpg You can't actually see their back muscles, but you can see they are broad around the back, and combined with their height and reach they had great long punches with power. mightymouse2k 01-22-2010, 07:13 PM Yes, forearms do play apart in punching power and bruce lee spent alot of time training his forearms for power punching... he mentions this in "art of expressing the human body". However you should be aware, that in wing chun kung fu (the kung fu that probably had the most influence on bruce lee) contains punches (and a fighting style for that matter) that are completely different to western boxing. |
