John "The Beast" Mugabi

http://www.silversurfer91.homestead.com/files/mugabi.jpg

20 Wins and 20 KOs until he fought Hagler in what was for my opinion one of the thoughest fights of the modern era.

vs.

Félix "Tito" Trinidad

40 wins and 37 KOs until he fought Bernard Hopkins and lost by way of TKO in the 12th.

Both guys left a path of destruction before they fought and lost against the most formidable opponent their time and weight class had to offer. Who would succeed if they had fought the night were both of them took their first loss?

Personally I believe that only a very good Marvelous Marvin Hagler could handle the Beast that John Mugabi truly was that night. It would be a very though fight but I believe that John might be able to overcome via a late round TKO.

Mugabi was one of the heaviest punchers I've ever seen. He certainly could take Tito out, should he get a few clean shots in...
Mugabi was also just a better fighter than he was ever credited for being.
He proved a lot in his fight with the great hagler, though I believe he was facing a kind of worn-out Hagler (all those fights/years...Hearns fight, too).

BUT....

I don't like the chances of any fighter who has big holes in their defense....taking on Felix Trinidad.
Tito would hit Mugabi with a dazzling array of power shots.....taking him out in 7.

"The Beast and Tito" both have holes in their defenses, the one who lands the most devistating shot wwill win.

mugabi kayo's him in 5, mugabi was actually 25-0 with 25 kayos coming into his fight with hagler i think, and that was all in the middleweight division, dont forget tito started at welterweight, mugabi would have too much power early for tito, tito was always vulnerable in the early rounds, against mugabi though he would not have recovered

I agree with dansweeney. 25W(25KO's)-0L-0D coming into the Hagler fight. Mugabi was a natural middleweight and packs a lot of power, he's got decent skills too but were simply overshadowed by his KO power. Hagler beat him due to exhaustion, coming into the Hagler fight, he's won 22 fights ending in less than 5 rounds!

They both have holes in their defenses but I don't see Tito's chin holding up to the Beast's powerpunches. And he (Tito)doesn't really have the G-Man's power to stop him either.

I think Mugabi would stop Tito in the first half of this matchup. The Beast was a murderous puncher and naturally bigger than Trinidad.

Having seen The Beast in his prime, I think Trinidad beats him by possible late round stoppage or decision. However, it would take all of Trinidad's skill, Mugabi was huge for his weight.

I think this is actually one case where size and strength alone would win the fight. Mugabi was a murderous puncher and showed in the Hagler fight that he could take a lot of punishment. That older, worn out version of Hagler would have eaten Tito alive much quicker than he did Mugabi. Mugabi also showed that he can use the jab and is a good counter puncher. I don't think Tito could take all of the punishment that Mugabi would hand him. Mugabi KO 8 in a extremely violent fight.

mugabi was always a middleweight he didnt have to move up tito did..so the power goes to mugabi and mugabi had a really damn good chin..he took everything hagler dished out for 10 plus rounds.if hagler never existed i think we would of been talking about how great mugabi is or was.hagler ruinied him.its impossible to hurt hagler you cant knock him down and thats what hurt mugabi..i would say mugabi in 2 just to much power for trinidad

note how the "tito by ko" predictions are just stated, and left unmotivated... I wonder why...

Seriously...I've already made my thoughts on this fight known. Tito really had little chance to eat all of Mugabis firepower. Tito would really have to hit Mugabi with the kitchen sink and then some...all while taking hard punches from one of the biggest middleweight punchers ever. I seriously doubt that he could do it.

I believe that Mugabi was also a Jr. Middleweight. I could not imagine fighting a guy with that much strength. Aswell, Mugabi represented Uganda in the olympics and I believe that he pulled off a bronze medal. Few people thought that he had any real skill, only his power. The guy had skill though.......Rockin' :boxing:

Mugabi has not been a middleweight his whole career. He definately fought as a Jr. Middleweight aswell. As a matter of fact the only title that he ever held was the WBC Jr. Middleweight belt :boxing: .........Rockin'

Geez, a matchup between a big, strong and POWERFUL counter puncher, who has a history of blowing guys out within a couple of rounds (especially those who weren't all that hard to find)...Versus a more all-around talented, but less powerful puncher and slower starter, who has a history of being dropped in the opening rounds of his fights by fighters who didn't even come close to matching the punching power of "The Beast"...

I wouldn't be picking Tito to win this matchup, that's for damn sure!
