View Full Version : Jones vs. Tarver III
Truth 05-03-2005, 08:11 AM Lets say Tarve beats Johnson and Jones Roy comes back, Tarver vs. Jones III who wins? and Why?
I picked Roy for the I and II, I would will pick him for this fight if it happens.
Tarver is my dad 05-03-2005, 08:38 AM I am a huge Jones fan, and I also had him for the first fight, but for the second fight, I knew that he might lose. If there were to be a third fight, I gotta see the fire and motivation back from him, then I might say Jones will win the rubbermatch. However, Roy has gotten old and lost his speed and reflexes. If he can adapt to another style, then we'll see Roy as champion again.
dansweeney 05-03-2005, 08:44 AM roy jones by spectacular first round kayo
Martin (Top Knowledge) 05-03-2005, 08:51 AM RJJ has gone... He ain't coming back, and if he does... He'll be a shadow of his former self.
Tarver would spark him out again.
Bombardier 05-03-2005, 09:20 AM It all depends on what the new RJJ looks like. People are counting him out already but if he gets a year to a year in a half away from the ring he might come back nearly as good as new.
It's tough when guys take long layoffs and then come back. The one successful one that people remember these days if Leonard against Hagler. The decision was obviously controversial, but there's not question that Leonard looked great...and I hate that *******, so it's tough for me to say that.
Trinidad looked good against Mayorga though in reality Tinidad probably did more to keep himself in shape in retirement than Mayorga would ever do as an active fighter. Vargas, I'm sure most people will agree, looked horrible, and obviously his beatings against Tito and De La Hoya took their toll.
It all depends on how well Jones can shake off his 2 KOs. I'm guessing that he's working on making a triumphant comeback, though whether or not that works out for him remains to be seen.
So, what the hell, I say an aging and questionably dedicated Tarver loses to RJJ in a decision. Tarver already proved he could knock out Jones, so he will have less motivation coming into this fight. And we all know that an unmotivated Tarver can be a shadow of the fighter than he can be when he works harder at it.
Truth 05-03-2005, 09:55 AM I think Roy will fight this year for sure, either against Tarver, Johnson, Hopkins or maybe even Toney. But Tarver, Johnson are way more likely than last two.
jabsRstiff 05-03-2005, 10:03 AM Roy Jones didn't just get beaten by Tarver & Johnson.....he was BLOWN OUT by both.
I would like to see Roy face one of the guys beneath those two before he gets a shot at either.
He has to prove he's worthy.
Right now, he'll get smoked by either one, again.
Those who think it's a training/style change issue.....
Are you ignoring the Father Time issue ?
I believe that's what the problem is....& that can't be fixed.

I agree with you
but in the Johnson fight, it was obvious that he was just being lazy, every time he was on the ropes, johnson would be pounding him, and Jones wouldn't have even tried to get on and was being all ****y n ****
ottoevans 05-03-2005, 10:06 AM i would give it to Roy. Im sure hes lost some of his ability but im pretty sure he didnt lose it as much as it looked agaist Johnson. I think he just need sumting to motivate him
Kimmy 05-03-2005, 10:18 AM I maintain all along that Jones grew out of the lightheavyweight division the day he fought Ruiz. He can not lose that weight to make 175 and still be a world class fighter.
The only fight i think Jones would win is a Toney rematch as he would allow his old body not to be resricted by weight, thus probably increase his speed and punch resistance. He is a fool if he think competing at 175 is a smart idea, its heavyweight or nothing!
jabsRstiff 05-03-2005, 10:21 AM Jones was nearly killed by Johnson. Don't you think, considering his age, that the horrific KO will have a serious effect on him ?
I think you'll start seeing Roy going down from glancing blows.

agree with you but toney would beat his ass like a drum mate.
Come on people I cant actually belive that after being despatched brutally twice, that folk are still making a case for Jones at light heavy. Ridiculous, Id back clinton woods to beat jones now.
finis. ;)
GuyIncogito 05-03-2005, 10:56 AM Coming back and losing again would be pretty embarassing, so I'm guessing RJJ will be very motivated to avoid that. I think RJJ will be well prepared and will have that fire back and will come out with a comeback victory.
NiGe2011 05-22-2005, 02:35 AM I have a friend who is into boxing but does not really watch it all that religously- he follows the fighters quasi-closely and usually defers to me for my opinions on fights. Now this guy is the worst kind of boxing analyst- he can't see past his own bias. He bet me that De La Hoya would beat Hopkins. He thinks that Barrera easly won all the fights against Morales and would knock him out in a rematch. He claimed that Wladimir Klitschko was still the most deserving heavyweight for a title shot. He said Freitas would easily KO Corrales. He picked Lennox Lewis to lose in every fight he fought in. Now the point of all this is that if he is pointing north, I have learned that it is best to go south. And he says that Roy is going to come out of retirement and KO Tarver and Johnson both within six rounds. What that means is I pick Antonio Tarver to win a pretty close decision against Roy should they fight a third time. Sorry for making you sit through all that.

hahhahahahah no it was great.
what did he say about Brewster vs Golota?
Zab Super Judah 05-22-2005, 03:21 AM roy jones by UD TARVER cant fight when someone punches him he just covers up
NiGe2011 05-22-2005, 03:23 AM My friend loves Golota and thinks that aside from Wlad he is the most talented heavyweight around- so I am sure that he had him to win, although I did not talk to him before the fight.

Toney fat and doesnt move that much, Roy would UD him again, Geln Johnson pressed the **** outta Roy, Toney cant do that so that gives Roy the opportunity to do what he does best.

i am not even a big jones fight, He got blown out by tarver. how so we only got to see Round and a half of actions. Jones took the first round. Now if the fight went 8 or 10 rounds then tarver knocked him out thats a blow out. Tarver laned a perfect punch at the right time. It was one Jones never saw and those are the killers. To me the johnson ko was way worst. Going 9 rounds and losing getting beat then koed, Thats bad. 2 round ko by tarver didnt see the punch. If jones fights tarver again he is dumb. U dont just get knocked out twice and jump back into the mix. he needs have a tune up.
The Troll 05-22-2005, 04:51 AM Jones should forget about the Lt Heavyweight divsion and return to his home at middleweight and supermiddleweight if it possible for him to make that weight. That is his natural weight. He is overrated as to how dominating he was a Lt Heavy. I think he can have success at middleweight and supermiddle but not above that weight.
.
Truth 05-22-2005, 09:23 AM Roy should come back and fight who ever wins Tarver/Johnson II and then retire.
the_painless 05-22-2005, 10:02 AM yeah retire after he gets beaten again
Truth 05-22-2005, 10:14 AM yeah retire after he gets beaten again
Its possible but I think Jones would not be denied.
The Pretender 05-22-2005, 12:24 PM Roy would lose again because he's been exposed. His speed and defense are gone and now his chin is ready for being tapped a 3rd time. Roy really gone downhill...first he drops his hw belt without even one defence, then he goes to get KTFO twice in a row. He is done.
Brz_Pugilist 05-22-2005, 12:33 PM Jones would get KTFO again.I think Roy had a weak chin, but it wasnt exposed enough in the early years cause he used his movemeent and he basically was a counterpuncher and a pot-shot fighter.
TysonKO50-5-0 05-22-2005, 01:41 PM I love Jones Jr. and he WAS an excellent fighter, but those days are pretty much over. Tarver seems to the style to beat Jones Jr. and it seems as though he has his number.
I'd be rooting for Roy, but I don't like his chances.
Tarver KO4.
Bozo_no no 05-22-2005, 02:14 PM Jones should come back and fight Tomasz Adamek.
If he looks good, and Tarver wins the Johnson rematch (which I don't think he will) I think Roy is still capeable of beating Tarver.
I think he'd be a lot more aware of getting hit like that (something he didn't expect in a million years) and if he boxes and picks his shots and keeps his hads up (no throwing wild punches while Tarver is throwing), I think he can pull it off.
The one thing I was thinking about would be that now would be the perfect time for Roy to show up in a fight and throw 30 jabs a round. He has a fine snapping jab, but he rarely used it in his career because his speed and relfex allowed him to land power shots at will.
If Jones came into the ring with a piston jab and threw 30 of them around, no one would be prepared for it.
