IŽd favor Marciano. Toney is a very skilled and all that, but against a prime Marciano he would get beaten bad. This would be interesting for a few rounds, but Marciano would definitely get to Toney and knock him out. Toney would not be able to hurt Marciano and would have a helluva time trying to keep Marciano off him.

Rocky Marciano by ko 10.

Yeah, you maybe right. Marciano didn't like to give his opponents lots of room to breath, and he especially needed to close the distance since his short arms.

I heard James Toney got a gift decision against a guy name Dave Tiberi. I heard he swarmed Toney all night, Maybe Marciano, the bigger puncher can put him away.

Toney lays against the ropes and the ropes keep him from getting knocked into the fifth row. Total mismatch. Toney doesn't see the fifth round.

I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but have people actually seen a few of Marcianos fights? Not just a clip or two, but entire fights?

Yes, I have seen many of Marcianos fights. He may look slow and awkward at times, but man he could punch! And he was not an easy target, contrary to what many seem to think. I have seen him slip many jabs, and his crouch also made it difficult to hit him, let alone hurt him. His chin was marvelous and his stamina incredible. But what impresses me most about "The Rock" is his heart. He just would not give up. He kept on coming, no matter how grim his chances looked. This is what made him champion in the first place. A great fighter!

Good post!

Marciano was losing many of his bigger fights by points, but always wound up winning in the end! He would hit his opponents on the arms, shoulders......... wherever there was an opening and by the later rounds they could hardly lift their arms anymore to defend themselves. Many of Marciano's fights ended up with Marciano losing what seemed like a gallon of blood and it just seemed to make him madder! James Toney is a slick SOB and would probably be winning the boxing match part of the fight by points until Marciano wore him down with arm, shoulder and body punches along the ropes. The fight would look a little like the Jirov/Toney fight, but Marciano was physically stronger and hit harder than Jirov. Marciano would not be able to dispose of Toney as easy as some think! It would be a good fight while it was on and it would probably take Marciano to the later rounds to stop a slick guy like Toney!

The fight might look like the second Marciano-LaStarza match, a fight in which Marciano employed the strategy described above to pummel the defensive LaStarza's bicep and shoulder until he could no longer lift his hands. After the knockout Roland LaStarza was taken to the hospital where it was found that Marciano's punches had actually chipped the bones in his arm. The bone fragments had to be removed by surgery.

I think Toney would look phenomenal countering every the Rock throws until the later rounds where Marciano's vicious bodyshots (he threw them with the intention of ripping his opponents in half) wear him down and forced him to become a more willing target.

When you could no longer defend yourself it was always a matter of time before Marciano knocked you out. No one could stand up to the force behind those shots.

You can search on amazon.com or ebay. Many fights on sale, both on VHS and DVD. If I ever figure out how to upload fights, I will be sure to share my Marciano fights with you guys. I guess I can only do this with the fights I have on DVD and that I need a DVD-rom on my computer (?).

Toney has skills all around especially countering punches but it wouldnt matter against the agressive and powerful Marciano. Marciano KO in 9

I think if Toney can avoid something major he has a chance to counter the Rock to a dec win. Toney would have liked the Rocks come forward style and might have been able to rack up points and survive. Hard to judge though, different era`s completely!

I haven't seen an entire Marciano fight, I seen clips of his fights, usually the knock out clips, but what kind of punches did he throw?

Did he throw those wide punches, because I mean come on even though he was a big puncher, James Toney could easily make him into a soft puncher by rolling those big shots and tiring him out. If all of Marciano's punches were those wild loopinng punches I've seen, Toney might stand a good chance.

no, they weren't all looping shots, i have a couple of his fights. rocky liked to throw the uppercut, a lot, and his favorite punch was the right cross.uppercuts in close while jersey joe was on the ropes knocked his ass out. since the rock had such short arms, he had to in close to land his power shots. i'm not sure he could hit toney's head, but with that power he'd sure punish him to the body

Marciano would beat Toney's fat ass across the ring. If it was prime Toney, then Marciano would still beat Toney's fat ass across the ring. If Roy Jones could do it, Marciano would get him before 8 rounds.

toney would not know how to deal with the rocks power and rocky doesnt tire out

p4p wen both were in their primes, i go for toney!

but as heavyweights, marcianos constant pressure and hard shots might tell late in the fight!

but then again i cnt see toney gettin KO'd by any1, he has a great chin and doesnt get hit flush anyway.

so i have to say, toneys ring savvy might just b able to win him a decision!

damn close, hard fought fight tho!

An old ass Holyfield was able to shock Toney with a punch early in their fight. Marciano is bigger and stronger and would definitely maul Toney. Toney had a close fight with Jirov. No disrespect to Toney, but Marciano is Jirov times 2. This means a loss for Toney.

this is sad, but toney would kind of be smaller than marciano! rocky would be outclassed and confused, but would catch-up with toney, and ko him in 5 rounds.
