And EXPOSED was the word.

Toney was in poor shape, but he clearly beat an OUTCLASSED
John Ruiz.

2nd loss to a former Middleweight.

You can't say enough that those who were rabbid in saying Toney's shape was disgraceful, and yet in spite of it, he
still made Ruiz look like ****.

Anyone else notice how few left hand shots Toney threw?

It was a lot of Right hands, especially in the 2nd half of the fight.

Props to Toney for beating Ruiz, God knows most boxing fans wanted it to happen. But it's Ruiz! You don't have to be in that great of shape to beat Ruiz. The worst and most boring of the current champs. Let's not put Toney up too high for this.

Its not putting it out of perspective to point out how wrong all people who harped about Toney's weight and Ruiz was going to blow him out because Toney's a blown up Middleweight.

It was only Ruiz, but a lot of Heavys couldnt' beat him.

I agree, but Ruiz had to go down sometime. He has no skill and relies on his hug-and-punch style everytime. It was only a matter of time before he got exposed. Toney was fortunate enough to be the one is all I'm saying.

I ws wondering why his left was looking so weak...James Toney is a shifty muthafu**a that can hit pretty hard when he wants to...

I think Toney alluded to some injuries suffering in camp during his post fight with Merchant, but, to his credit, he didn't make a big deal out of them.
But, it was clearly evident that his left hand was far from 100%.
Can you imagine if it HAD been though?
I've no doubt in my mind whatsoever, that if the fight hadn't come up on short notice & Toney had gotten in a full training camp rather than the 4 - 5 weeks he had, that he'd have stopped Ruiz.
Especially if he'd been able to utilize his left hook ( most notably to the body ) like normal & he had ripped in his usual assortment of viscious uppercuts. But, those weapons were MIA last night.
Had I known before the fight that two of Toney's biggest & most effective weapons were going to be nullified by injury & that his gas tank was going to be running that close to empty in the final 3 rounds against Ruiz, I'd have been heartsick. I'd have have been nervous as hell for him & been predicting doom & gloom. But damn if he didn't pull it out anyway! :D
Now THAT'S the sign of a great fighter.

You look at a guy like Mike Tyson who was blessed with those phenominal gifts of natural handspeed & tremendous power & yet, he never was able to do anything when faced with adversity. Whenever he faced it, he folded.
Then there's Toney who once again showed what learned skills, heart & determination can accomplish.
