There's a guy who used to post here who trains amateur fighters in Mexico and used to train Cuban amateurs, he mentioned shadow boxing was the single most important drill Cubans did in training. Does it burn much calories? Obvious answer is it depends how much effort your are putting into it and for how long, but an average boxer burns a lot more calories punching something or sparring than shadow boxing, ppl tend to get relaxed shadow boxing.

depends on how much energy you put into it. go 100% you burn calories. that simple.

it burns calories but not enough for significant weight loss. if your goal is to lose weight RUN.

and whatever you do do not say you can't run because:

you don't have the right shoes, you have weird feet, the weather is cold where you live, and other bullsh1t excuses fatsos make.

The only way you can make shadow boxing a good workout is if you do it at a high energy level and incorporate your entire body, i.e. throwing a combination and immediately bob & weave, or step out and back in fast and throw another. Try doing it without any pauses. Anything can be a workout if you make yourself work. Making yourself work hard is all up to you, not the exercise itself. If you're aiming for weight loss though, do not shadowbox, there is much easier and more convenient ways to do so. Run or jump rope.
