That awesome, I love the show and think the fact that they have real contenders fighting as opposed to Oscar's show with amateurs has made all of the difference in the world.

I wish I was going to Vegas!

I've criticized the show quite a bit in the past but I'm glad that boxing fans like it and that it seems to be doing quite well (though whether it will get picked up for a second season is probably up in the air, as far as I know). I just get suspicious of all the Hollywood trappings: the phoney sets, the clipped fights, etc.

The fact that good boxers are getting primetime exposure is great. More power to them :boxing: .

so far sergio has looked the best IMO with bonsante looking nasty
against overmatched brent cooper. manfredo seems to be getting

He certainly did. I know for a fact because I saw him fight live back in 2001 at the New Haven Coliseum. His opponent was a taller, naturally bigger guy named Ernest Mateen. He lost a UD to him but John was passed his prime.

Yeah. Chad Dawson is a local fighter here. Fights out of New Haven. There was an article on him in the New Haven Register a few years ago, which is unusual because boxing rarely makes the town paper.

You fought two guys that I know. Brett Lally used to come to our gym and spar with me when I was a beginning amatuer. He ofcourse took it easy on me. Not much technical skill out of Brett but the guy just has so much heart. Also Cleveland Nelson is a guy I know. Fought him in the Detroit are Golden Gloves finals in Michigan, at 147. Any reason to get more people watching Boxing is ok by me. I hate reality shows in general. The drama ,etc is too much for me. I just like to watch fights.

I love the show. I was afraid it was going to be like The Next Great Champ...boy I was wrong. My wife even loves it. She cries during some point in every episode. She thinks that Gomez is going to win.

He was HUGE LOL I weighed in OFFICIALLY at only 177 pounds andhe weighed officially at 198!! By the time we fought the next night he was at least 212 and I was still about 179 or 180. It was CRAZY. LOL I came on at the end but his strength took an early lead over me. I came right back exactly two months later and beat Cleveland Nelson ou of Detroit. To the guy that knows Cleveland, he was a pretty good fighter and the boxing world is small... way back in 1987 I won the Ohio State Fair at 165 in the open division and Cleveland fought in the same tournament as a JO and lost in the 139 pound finals to Ravea Springs. Small world. I also know other Michigan guys u might know...Wilie Sith, Tarik Salmaci, Warren Jackson, Bronco, J. Toney, Booker Word, Ed Kendall, Fabian Williams, Roger Turner, Theotrice Chambers and others. Kady King, too.

....The rippuh is a little inside thing. There is one dude in here called Jack the Rippuh who has a pic with his hat sideways and his eyes closed. It became a cult thing for others to do their own rippuh pics with the sideways hat thing. It's a twisted bunch on these boards. Seriously, it's the best bunch of people in the world on this site. Nothing else even comes close to it.

Chad might fight an african guy for the WBC International title soon. Clay-Bey might fight on ESPN and Ray Olivera might come back July 9. I also have a kid Joe Rhea that might fight at the end of May. So that mixed with all the sparring I like to keep doing, and I am a busy guy LOL But never too busy for you guys :)

Hey John, did a heavyweight named Ed Hardy train at your gym? I remember seeing him around at a gym in West Haven. Our coach was Gary. Ed had a fight at the NH Coliseum and stopped his opponent in the first round. After that fight he said he was going to train in Hartford (more people to spar with) which I now assume was your gym. I'm not sure if he still trains but boxrec.com has his last fight being November of 2000 so it's doubtful.

Sparring Depends On Who The Boxer Is, Etc. Chad, For His Last Fight, I Only Had Him Spar 3 Trimes Total! And He Was In Great Condition. Some Other Guys Need To Spar More Than That, Much More. All Depends.

Tarick, Warren, Bronco, James and I all were fighting out of Galaxy at the same time. When I wa an amatuer James and I foguht together. Booker T and Kady were always down there working with me when I was young. Both of those guys are great people. I saw Theortice just the other day and he is speaking of dropping some weight and coming back to the ring, super nice guy. His sister is now serving her apprenticeship to start judging the amatuer bouts. Fabian and Roger were always fighting in the northern region of michigan so I never came acrossed them much except at tournys. Ed Kendall, not sure who that is.

I fought for a good while but walked away for different reasons. I am now reffing and judging in the amatuers and should be doing the pros before the end of the year. Maybe our paths will cross one day. Take care man until the do.........Rockin' :boxing:

And Tarick does not suck. The man is a great boxer. He has a good jab and movement and can be hard to catch if he puts on his running shoes and uses his legs. He is just not one who stands toe to toe and fights, thats not his game. Why he stood toe to toe, so I heard, in his fight on the contender I can not understand.
