Hi
I need some advice. Im not a boxer. Im 17 years old (18 in September) Im only 5"3ft. Im classed as the 'little' one of the group if you know what I mean. Ive started going to the gym and building myself up. I really want to getting into boxing. Ive watched it for a while and really love the heart and determination that boxers have. I really have alot of determination and think I could really make a go of it. I played football for 6 years straight so im quite fit. Do you think im the kind of person for the sport?
Advice would be really greatful.
Thanks
Matt Jones

I don't see any reason why you can't become a world champ, you absolutely are going to make a go of it especially with that football background of yours...

take a look at what Mark Gastineau and Alonzo Highsmith did for the sport, you should be no different!

Seriously that is great that you are getting into boxing, make sure you keep your weight down and smoke a lot of pot....this will make you much more resourceful in the ring.

You need to contact Eric Gomez of Golden Boy Promotions.
He is the VP/Matchmaker there, tell him Nick sent you and he will get you going!

My advice to Matt is to join the "rippuh crew" on these forums. They're looking for a few good men to join and your name will be Matt_the_rippuh. They'll be happy to train you and you will be posting, I mean boxing sooner than you think. :)

you will make it if you don't mind getting hit, cause that will happen in the beginning, stick in there and keep learning. also take anger management(yikes, cause you need it). and scap, what are you talking about smoke weed?

I just thought that mad matt should be calm when entering the ring...the last thing I want this young kid to do is to enter the ring all juiced up and punch himself out in the first minute...Am I wrong? Donny am I wrong?

are you good at mike tysons punch-out? couse if you are then you will will do good in the ring. if you can whip everyone and tyson on the first try then you will be the undisputed champ. if you can do stoned then you will be linear champ. if you can do it with a NY yankess ball cap on sideways, eyes closed, mouth slightlty open and stoned then you will be undefeated and retire that way.

your a couple inches shorter than me.. but if really into it than go ahead... dont get discourage because most or all of your opponents gon be taller than you... aint nottin... but you played football for 6 years... are you bulked up???... if not then its good... if so... than its gon be pretty hard to move around and such... but if you got the determination than its good...

You can not tell how a person will be as a fighter by talking to them, words mean nothing. Playing football is good for some mental preparation but I believe that you will find boxing to be much more demanding.

It all comes down to you. We can say that you will be a good fighter but who is even remotely basing the statement on real evidence. Its all about what you have inside of you and how bad do you want it. Physical size means very little, after all you will be fighting people your same weight, what is imporatant is the size of your heart and again, how bad do you want it and then what are you willing to sacrifice to get it.....Rockin' :boxing:
