Clinton Woods's team are so confident of victory over Rico Hoye for the now-vacant IBF light heavyweight title that they're looking ahead to his next defence, and saying that Joe Calzaghe is interested.

Clinton has had two fights with Glencoffe Johnson, incidentally, as I'm sure most of you know - one draw, one loss - and he reckons he could do the job the third time.

But the question is... what would happen if Woods and Calzaghe got it in? For my money, Calzaghe is far superior as a technical boxer and would walk it, even though it's 7lbs up.

I agree, Woods will lose to Hoye so whats the point mentioning Calzaghe?

Will he? I don't know Hoye I'm afraid. Though rereading the write-up (in Boxing Monthly Dec 2004) it seems as if Clinton is disregarding him... he hasn't even seen the guy fight.

I only see Woods vs. Jones, and Jones made him look really bad in that fight, however, he did show a good chin. Were the fights with him and Glen Johnson good fights? Both like swarming, so tell me, was it action-packed?

Woods was the more boxer in the Johnson fights but Glen just wanted it more, the skill level was about equal. Woods is a decent domestic fighter and there are some fighters that on the right night he`d beat but Hoye is too good for him, either late stoppage or points loss for Woods.

Many (Glen included) say Glen won both, though the first was competitive as Glen ran out of steam and looked hurt in one of the later rounds (Glen said he wasn't).

Woods does claim to have an "iron chin" and has never been KOed. He said he was suffering in his diet and boxed "crap" in the second fight, which still went the distance. In interviews Woods has claimed that Glen didn't fight better the second time, he just fought worse.

Oh, and no - considering how Glen didn't leave Roy alone then his work rate wasn't unusually high against Woods.

Yeah, agreed, Kimmy - he's decent but boxing above his level. European, maybe... world, no.

It shows the conditon of of light heavyweights. Woods is walking into constant title matches. He isn`t winning them but just putting up a good showing. He is a very luckly boxer. Look at Joe Calzaghe, he`s undefeated, a chmpion in his own right but no matches for him. I think Woods gets these fights because people want to fight him as he`s beatable, as for Calzaghe........

I can only see a Calzaghe ko in this fight, Joe has too much class for Clinton.

Calzaghe would give Woods a beat down, i'd be suprised if it lasted 6 rounds!!

I like Woods, he seems a decent guy but he's not world class, how the hell has Woods got himself 4 world title shots??
