View Full Version : Was Wlad Ever Here?
Neuraxis 04-25-2005, 07:54 PM A lot of people seem to be fooling themselves with all of this talk about whether Wlad is back or not, especially when the standard of him being back requires that he do something that he was never able to do pre Sanders which is beat someone with good power and a good chin. He lost to the only three opponents he faced, all of which had two things in common. These three opponents, Puritty, Sanders, and Brewster, all had good power and a good chin. Puritty has the best chin of the bunch and he has 30 wins with 27 KO's, Sanders has 40 wins with 30 KO's (all of his decisions except Puritty were pre 1995), and Brewster who has 31 wins and 27 KO's.
A lot of people who insist that Wlad isn’t even close to being back yet, are either A) fooling themselves or B) buying into the pre-Sanders hype created by HBO that Wlad could have beat Lewis. If Wlad would have fought Lewis after he beat McCline and Lewis would have fought him instead of Tyson, Lewis would have beat up on him pretty badly. Like Sanders proved, Wlad’s defense was horrible and he reacted very poorly to being hit with multiple power shots in a row. Let’s examine Wlad’s opponents from Barrett to Castillo, by characterizing how each of his opponents fought him into one of four categories. I think that it’s safe to say which category presents the biggest challenge to Wlad.
Sofhitters: Barrett, Byrd
Scared of Wlad's Power: Shufford, McCline, Moli, TOS, Castillo
Over the hill: Mercer, Botha, Nicholson
Glass Chin, Hard Hitter: Jefferson
Solid Chin, Hard Hitters: Sanders, Brewster
After his loss to Sanders he fought Moli, Nicholson, Brewster, TOS, and Castillo. Moli, was probably the worst post-Sanders opponent Wlad fought was KO'd in 1 by Wlad. Nicholson who while he was over the hill was still able to easily outbox Tua for 5 rounds before Tua KO'd him in the 6th. Nicholson fought somewhat scared against Wlad, constantly clinching him while Wlad outboxed him and TKO'd him in 4th. Wlad looked the closest to the old Wlad against Moli and Nicholson.
After the Nicholson fight, Wlad started working with Emanuel Steward, who felt the need to change a lot of things about Wlad's style and how he fought. Because of this, he looked nothing like the old Wlad, and I really wondered whether Steward was ruining Wlad. Instead of fighting Brewster where he looked hurried and awkward and TOS where he looked unsure of himself and awkward, Wlad should have fought much easier opposition while he was making the switch in style.
Against Castillo, it was clear that Wlad is finally comfortable with Steward's new style. Losing 4+ lbs. and sparring more also seemed to help him out quite a bit as well. Wlad had great footwork, he was able to throw combinations (which he struggled to do against Brewster and which he found impossible to do against TOS), he improved his defense, and he fought like the patient Wlad of the past.
As long as Wlad stays away from the hard hitters with good chins, he will most likely keep on winning. The true test will come when he fights a hard hitter with a good chin. If he doesn't win, it won’t prove that Wlad isn’t back because the old Wlad would have lost every single time to that kind of opponent. If he wins, it will prove that the new Wlad is here.

DUDE wake up I'm not on his nuts, I think Vlad's a pile of garbage, all I'm sayin' is that you turned a 1-line statement into a freakin biography
I personally thought the same about him his entire career. Even after his losses to Sanders and Brewster.
Think about it this way. People will always say: "Excuses, Excuses". I dont buy into that. There was clear problems present in his losses. All three of them.
1.) He had stamina problems at the time he fought Purity. He punched himself out, and ran out of gas completely. The New Wlad, I believe does not have these kinds of problems anymore, based on his lighter weight and newfound mobility. He is learning from training under Steward.
2.) Sanders caught him with a lucky punch, and from there on, was the downfall of the fight. People act like he was a never was....and that is fuking stupid. Lewis was knocked out cold by Rock, and McCall. In no way am I comparing Wlad to Lewis....but if you look at overall skill and potential, the two obviously supercede the people they have lost to. He was not ready to take that kind of a punch, and I dont think Sanders, to this day can repeat that performance against him. He will not be able to find him with that jab in his face.
3.) Brewster's display of heart in that fight, was one of the better ones since Holyfield fought Bowe. He would not take no for an answer, and took serious punishment in the process. I am 100% certain the new Wlad would knock his ass out cold. The patience in shooting the right hand he displayed against Castillo is a tell tale factor of the new Wlad. He only missed 1 right hand the entire fight, and the second one he landed.....he knocked him out.
Wlad haters can suck my dick, because he is a big athletic assasin, who has always been the best heavyweight since Lewis. Period. What is hilarious, are all the people who jumped ship to his brother. LOL.
Wlad is the better fighter. Not Vitali.

....Yeah, and I might add that anyone who calls Wlad a Bum, pile of ****, etc. etc. is a ****in idiot that has no credibility on these boards. Blanket statements like that about a guy with Wlad's offensive skills and potential is either a case of someone being an idiot or just trying to be a dick. I suspect it's a little of both.
BrooklynBomber 04-25-2005, 09:48 PM Whom does Wlad remind you on my avatar. Anyway if wlad had the brains and the patience of his brother than he would be better. But Vitaly imo just smarter now. Maybe later it will be different.
!! Mr. Soprano 04-25-2005, 10:26 PM Not a bad post, but only two things I disagree with:
A)
If Wlad would have fought Lewis after he beat McCline and Lewis would have fought him instead of Tyson, Lewis would have beat up on him pretty badly. Like Sanders proved, Wlad’s defense was horrible and he reacted very poorly to being hit with multiple power shots in a row.Wlad completely underestimated Sanders. Come on, his physical appearance in not very impressive. A golfer? Who would take him seriously. Wlad got caught very well on his chin, undervaluing his opponents power and never was able to recover.. he just kept coming up and down again.. I'd say the guy was in total shock and didn't know what to do.
He would have prepared A LOT more for the fight with Lewis and would have been a lot more cautious.
And of course Lewis still would have wooped his ass..
B) Wlad had great footwork, he was able to throw combinations (which he struggled to do against Brewster and which he found impossible to do against TOS)I'm sorry, I might have been watching a different fight, but the one I saw was: Jab, Jab, Jab, Jab + Left Hook,
Jab, Jab, Jab + Left Hook,
Jab, Jab, Jab + Straight right (missed)
Jab, Jab, Jab, Jab.... Jab + Straight Right ----->End of fight.
I must have missed all of the excitement of the fight. What combinations?
He hit Brewster with combinations for 4 rounds...
But like I said before... I like the post
I always favored Wladimir more than Vitaly.. and I'm also his bigger fan

Tried to hit you with the karma but must "spread it around".
There seems to be a migration of dim-bulbs happening. Remember when secondsout bit the dust and idiots sprang up everywhere? Deja vu all over again!
legend 04-25-2005, 10:47 PM Vitali is better than his brother IMO, but he has so much more athleticism. If you take VK's chin and smarts combined with Wlad's athleticism, you would have one of the best heavyweights in years.
SacTown1 04-25-2005, 10:50 PM Vitali is better than his brother IMO, but he has so much more athleticism. If you take VK's chin and smarts combined with Wlad's athleticism, you would have one of the best heavyweights in years.
I think Vitali's "non-athleticism" can work to his advantage, he never seems to tire out, he just leans back whenever somebody throws at him, he's pretty focused and patient in the ring....Vlad is lighter on his feet but he's got no stamina
Neuraxis 04-25-2005, 10:53 PM He hit Brewster with combinations for 4 rounds...
He hit Brewster with combos for 4 rounds but he looked awkwardly robotic while throwing them. He looked very un-Wlad. The few he threw against Castillo looked like the regular Wlad unlike the Wlad of the past two fights.

I agree. VK is so awkward that most fighters don't know what to do. There really is no way to prepare for him.

woah i can even believe yall ..i use
to think wlad was gone to be unstoppable but i came to the realization that wlad is highly stoppable.. im sick of the legless roided up klitsckos... vitali can fight but wlad who is the hardest puncher in the division is too soft ..neuraxis is right anybody with a chin and a punch will beat wlad .. people have this perception of theese giants with genius iqs but in ..reality the klitschkos have been raised to fight their whole life...they have middle weight size legs and had huge upper bodys at one point which proclaims the both used steroids your upper body cant get that big with out building your legs becuase squats build your testosterone...so basically they were using testosterone to build their testosterone.i believe their clean now they both dropped 10 lbs..and about theese ukrainian phds they got they are equivalent to 2 years of community college in the US.... and rahman has no fear of vitali...vitali is scared he asked in an interview after he saw meehen get knocked out "does rahman really hit that hard"then says on hbo that he got the sugury wich could of been done within the last 2 years cuz he needed to be in shape 100 percent for rahman...you do the math all i know is the facts
realheavyhands 04-26-2005, 02:04 AM excuse my typos fellas
Neuraxis 04-26-2005, 02:35 AM "does rahman really hit that hard"
You aren't presenting the accurate story here. Everyone was praising Rahman for how he looked during Meehan fight, and Vitali made that statement and followed by his other comments that he wasn't impressed with Rahman.
The Fix 04-26-2005, 02:50 AM all i have to say is rahman will be undisputed champ by the end of 2006.
he has all the tools to be champ again, i cant see any heavy beating him when he is motivated.
btw who was the guy that made the comment that wlad is the best heavy since lewis  you cant be serious, he hasnt done anything to be mentioned as the best since lewis.
btw when rahman beats barrett and then goes on to fight v-klit who wears the belt to the ring?
Boxerdog 04-26-2005, 03:04 AM im sick of the legless roided up klitsckos.....they have middle weight size legs and had huge upper bodys at one point which proclaims the both used steroids your upper body cant get that big with out building your legs becuase squats build your testosterone..... all i know is the facts
All I know is that you know very little.
I have had a huge upper torso since I started lifting in Junior High.(1966 and '67) I also have rather small legs. I have never juiced or in fact taken any special supplements. Just multiple vitamins.
It's about body type.

no i have the broadcast on tape
Boxerdog 04-26-2005, 12:05 PM whats huge to you... how much can you bench
I am disabled with chronic back problems but still have a chest measuring 54'' normal 57 1/2" expanded. Huge is a relative term.
The point is that my legs are very small in comparison and your statement was very irresponsible.

dog i totally agree with you. i on the otherhand have huge legs while my upperbody seems to not be able to grow. i worked out for several years and tried everything to get a chest and arms. while i could bench in my prime 450-500 i looked like i would have a hard time getting 250-300 to even move. but that was many years and beers ago. i am back in the gym now and improving my health once again. funny thing is that my legs have never lost size. well cept my right calf. i had a skateboarding accident and turned my foot aournd backwards. it didn't break anything it just tore every tendon and ligament. i was in a hard cast for 9 months. but its back to normal after i had theropy.
BrooklynBomber 04-26-2005, 12:29 PM Most of the fighters have rather thin legs and bigger upper torso.this is mainly due to amount of cardio we do. Our legs are rather strong but most of the times are thin. Also Vitaly does not look like he does roids. He is way to lean and his masculature is not very impressice. Yes he is athletic but definately not bulky.
Kid Achilles 04-26-2005, 01:04 PM There are many different kinds of steroids and other performance enhancing drugs. Even though Vitali's physique isn't eye popping, it's still a possibility that he's on something. I am not saying that the guy is on roids for sure, but I would not write him off as drug free just because he doesn't have his younger brother's proportions and shoulder width.
GranTorino 04-26-2005, 01:05 PM long winded statement brother, why not just say that Vlad's a bum??
Cause he'd be wrong. He wasted a half hour typing that up for no better reason than to hate on a boxer he doesn't like. Pathetic.

That's the thing too. His trainer Bill Slayton had died shortly before his fight with Wlad and he dedicated his fight to him. Either that helped him to take all of that punishment or Brewster vs. Meehan was fixed.
